I'm new here. Very embarrassed to even start to write this. I have been hAving this for a long long time now. I am a very clean woman I shower every single day. But I am constantly sweating down there and it smells really bad. Even during sex I can smell it. I'm so embarrassed and don't know what to do. I've also heard to no use soap down there and just water. I have bought soap free wash and it just doesn't seem to help. What can
I do?

Not that you should be embarrassed eithe way, but I never discuss female issues with my primary care physician.

OxiBrilloRange · 09/12/2019 22:33

You can get seen at a sexual health clinic without having to give your actual details (eg, actual name etc)

WhereverIMayRoam · 09/12/2019 22:33

OP there’s an over the counter product by Relactagel for treating BV if you can’t face going to your GP. If it doesn’t work over the few days of treatment then you should get it checked and will probably need an antibiotic. It’s not at all unusual, lots of women get this and the doctor will have seen it all before.

GertrudeCB · 09/12/2019 22:34

You have been given advice op. Hope it all clears up soon.

user72828847473829 · 09/12/2019 22:35

@OxiBrilloRange thank you. Yes I will try that first and if nothing I will see a go. And yes it can smell fishy at times but not all the time. And yes I agree some people have nothing better to do than being rude.

doodoodoodoodoolittlelulu · 09/12/2019 22:36

There is a bv treatment you can buy in supermarkets I believe. If there's an offensive smell that's probably what it is. You can scan it through on a self service till.
In future, wash the inner part with water only. Soap is okay on the outside bits. No knickers at night. Always wash with water after sex.

Sparklfairy · 09/12/2019 22:37

GreytExpectations why are you being so nasty? OP has an embarrassing problem and would rather ask on an anonymous forum than get her fanny out for a doctor. It's not a crime.

BumbleBeee69 · 09/12/2019 22:40

You do not need an antibiotic for Bacterial Vaginosis, you need a hormonal balancing gel, like Balance Active, which you can buy over the counter. It might just be your hormones .. Just make sure that's what it is though...

LoseLooseLucy · 09/12/2019 22:41

why are you being so nasty?

Umm because this place is troll central and it's just the kind of thing weirdos troll about (tell me all about stinking vadges). Add in brand new user and you can see why some posters may be a little suspect.

I'm sure Google can come up with a few answers if you don't want to see a GP.

MsPeachh · 09/12/2019 22:41

Sounds like BV. The GP will not be phased by this at all, it’s a common issue! When I was suffering, the doctor sent me to the toilets to take a swab myself, he didn’t ask to examine me. Nothing to be embarrassed about, OP.

Adelais · 09/12/2019 22:42

It does sound like bacterial vaginosis. You can buy a special gel from pharmacies to treat it and I’ve also heard using tea tree oil in the bath can help.

SpicyRibs · 09/12/2019 22:47

Is there anything I can do without seeing a gp. I would be quite embarrassed

Don't be. GPs see this stuff day in and day out. You may not even need to see the GP, you may just need to see the nurse and they can do some swabs. Better to know what you're dealing with and have the correct treatment than trying to manage it blindly.

Sparklfairy · 09/12/2019 22:49

LoseLooseLucy weirdos get their kicks everywhere, I don't see how attacking a poster who may be genuine stops that.

Troll hunting isn't allowed on MN anyway.

Abouttoblow · 09/12/2019 22:52

Can we all just bear in mind that we need to run everything past GreytExpectations before we start a thread. If they don't approve you need to go elsewhere. Send your ideas and allow 48 hours for a response.

oohyoudevilyou · 09/12/2019 22:53

I seem to recognise the style of writing from a "dirty knickers" troll on another forum . He's been posting for "advice" on these sort of issues for years Hmm

scoobydoo1971 · 09/12/2019 22:54

I used to work at a drop in clinic for STD infections. It was known as family planning many moons ago. Most towns and cities have these walk in centres, and they are brilliant at dealing with sensitive problems. If your issue is not BV, then you should continue to search for an answer...for example, diabetes or strep B. Swabs and blood tests can rule out most problems, and prevent systemic spread of anything serious. You may be embarrassed, but remember that health professionals see thousands of patients per year with all sorts of intimate problems so it is unwarranted. Imagine the relief if you get fixed with a short course of antibiotics.

Sparklfairy · 09/12/2019 22:54

I'd have no hope then Grin

user72828847473829 · 09/12/2019 22:54

@oohyoudevilyou. Hi. Sorry wasn't me I've never used this before

OP posts:
katewhinesalot · 09/12/2019 22:56

Don't just leave it. Get it checked out. It's probably just what everyone says but an odour was the only sign of my cervical cancer, so it's worth seeing a doctor about. It's not likely to be that though, so don't panic.

Bluerussian · 09/12/2019 22:57

This might be helpful: onlinedoctor.superdrug.com/bacterial-vaginosis-treatment.html

Wash with lots of clean water, back to front. Use only a feminine wash in the vulva. Wear cotton pants and avoid tights as far as possible, and tight fitting trousers. In bed wear loose cotton. If you're at home on your own you could float around in a long skirt with no drawers and let the air get to it.

Obviously wash well after sex.

Use a mild washing powder or liquid for your underwear. Some bio stuff causes a reaction.

Good luck - it's not an insurmountable problem, I've known people who have had it and it went with a bit of care. Do look at the link I posted, I expect Boots do the same and I know Amazon sells products.

LoseLooseLucy · 09/12/2019 23:02

weirdos get their kicks everywhere

They sure do.

StillWeRise · 09/12/2019 23:06

DO NOT USE A FEMININE WASH

gamerchick · 09/12/2019 23:06

Seriously OP, just go to a GUM clinic. It's quicker than a GP. What the point of.going to a GP just to be referred elsewhere?

At the least use the supermarket before all that. The gels are quite good if you have BV.

westeringhome · 09/12/2019 23:06

Skip over the boring “witty” replies, there’s always plenty, they’re just bored, and by responding you are playing straight into their hands as they will just keep clogging up your thread with crap.
Sometimes it’s not quick or easy to run to the doctors, but it really is the only way to find out exactly what is going on.
As previous posters have suggested it could be something as simple as an imbalance, which can sometimes be successfully sorted out with home remedies or an over-the-counter treatment. You can usually consult in private with a pharmacist, and they are usually a good first port of call.
In the meantime have a look on the Balance Activ website and see if anything there sounds like what you’re experiencing.
