Angry with DH-AIBU?

Got home from work after a long stressful day and found that my husband gave our 3 years old rotten cucumber to eat.

I was furious!!

Some background information-my mum stayed with us for a few months to help with my little one while I worked full time. She doesn't like throwing anything away so as I didn't want to offend her I left her to do whatever she wanted. She left on Saturday and as I had a busy Sunday I didn't get a chance to empty the fridge.

There was some "dead" already cut cucumber in a plastic container in the fridge. DH couldn't be bothered to check it and he just put it in a bowl for dd to eat. I don't think she touched but just the fact that was on her plate made me sick 🤢

Honestly is it that difficult to check???? He's blaming it on my mum :-/

What do you think?

Does he do it often and is she I'll because of it?

Itsonlymonday · 09/12/2019 18:54

No it's the first time I saw him doing that.
She seems fine but it made me angry he didn't check

tobedtoMNandfart · 09/12/2019 18:56

So your Mum can but he can't?

Looneytune253 · 09/12/2019 18:57

How didn't he see it when he put it on her plate? If it was off it must've been a mushy mess?

HelloDulling · 09/12/2019 18:57

How long ago was it cut up?

lazylinguist · 09/12/2019 18:58

Was it actually rotten, or just a bit tired and limp? As your username says, 'It's only Monday'. If she left it in the fridge on Saturday it seems a little peculiar that it would be rotten by today. In any case, it sounds like your dd didn't eat it. Tell your dh to check food more carefully in future, but it's hardly the crime of the century!

MsRomanoff · 09/12/2019 18:59

Was it actually rotten?

Sunshinelollipops1 · 09/12/2019 18:59

I think YABU. The cucumber can't have gone that bad between Saturday and Monday in a container in the fridge - sounds like it wasn't great when your Mum stored it, but you aren't having a go at her. I think most people proceed on the basis they don't need to "check" food from the fridge before they serve it.

plunkplunkfizz · 09/12/2019 19:01

Given the household is so busy you need outside help from your mother, could it just be that your husband was very busy and it slipped his mind. No harm seems to have been done so perhaps a more constructive discussion would be better in the long-term than being angry.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 09/12/2019 19:03

Cut cucumber does not go bad in a fridge in two days. Maybe a little limp. If you want to keep it crispy, cover it with water before refrigerating. Cucumber in cold water stays crispy.

christmassymcchristmas · 09/12/2019 19:05

Sounds like it's been there weeks, not just since Saturday. It's not the end of the world

Cambionome · 09/12/2019 19:06

I very much doubt if a child would have eaten something that was actually rotten, so I think you are being a bit of a drama queen about this. Was it just a bit tired? Absolutely no problem at all.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 09/12/2019 19:07

So he gave her slime and didn't notice?

Itsonlymonday · 09/12/2019 19:12

Maybe I'm overtired and overthinking it. I was quite stressed and angry from work. Yes it's busy atm for both of us.
The cucumber was quite watery but as long as she hadn't eaten it it's fine.
I got upset with him but I'm ok now .

jesus christ.....you didnt want to offend your mother by throwing anything out

you were too busy yourself on the saturday, yet you dh is at fault??

yabu

Anoisagusaris · 09/12/2019 19:15

Watery cucumber isn’t going to do her any harm. Hmm

DeathStare · 09/12/2019 19:15

First child OP? By the time you have a few of them you won't give a rat's ass about some watery cucumber, I promise.

itsmecathycomehome · 09/12/2019 19:19

Quite an overreaction to 'watery' cucumber imo.

Anyone who has looked after little kids will tell you that there are times when you're rushed off your feet and do daft things.

Even if she'd eaten every last bit, she'd have been fine.

One day, it'll be you who has done something similar - not cruel or intentional, just a bit thoughtless due to being very busy - and I hope you get an equally hard time for it from your dh.

Mylittlepony374 · 09/12/2019 19:20

YABU sorry. I know it's tough when you're stressed. For perspective my nearly 3 year old has tonight eaten a cracker she found under the couch which was likely there nearly a week, since the cleaner last came.

riotlady · 09/12/2019 19:23

Watery isn’t rotten

Itsonlymonday · 09/12/2019 19:27

Oh gosh some people on here are cruel!
Yes I had a go at him but didn't give him a hard time over it

OP posts:
Instatwat · 09/12/2019 19:37

You said you were “furious” so I don’t know why you’re now getting arsey because people think you gave him a hard time 🙄
Massive overreaction, he probably deserves an apology

MissSueDenim · 09/12/2019 19:41

I got upset with him but I'm ok now

This is quite a self centred response to be honest.

You had a go at him over some sodding cucumber because you’re overtired and overthinking & quite stressed and angry from work but hey, you’re ok now as it’s all good. Hmm

Reallynowdear · 09/12/2019 19:41

Watery cucumber makes you furious?

YABU

AlwaysThereForEveryoneElse · 09/12/2019 19:42

I don't belive it was actually rotten.. I mean they often last a while in the fridge..
Watery is fine. It won't hurt her.
I used to work in a cafe and their cut up quarters of cucumber for the salads were often delivered watery.. No complaints people ate it.
