Am i going crazy or is this possible? I now opened and heated up 2 different cartons , used different saucepans and spoons but as soon as is hot it really smells. Kids say the same so is not only me! Going to throw it out now but honestly!

Why is it that anyone who talks about poo is a troll? I’m confused😂

The poo troll is interested in stories of actual poo. Not passata.

Watchitt · 07/12/2019 14:47

mustardscreams it's called
Name c-h-a-n-g-e
Hmm

Why would you name change to talk about passatta?

MinervaSaidThat · 07/12/2019 14:49

Did you open another carton after posting this thread?

FloreanFortescue · 07/12/2019 14:49

Indeed ^

Watchitt · 07/12/2019 14:50

I changed for other reasons or no reason at all, i dont think i need to explain to you or anyone else why how or when i name change

The rest of cartons i had went to the bin, i think 3 where proof enough.
Have washed everything in very hot water and dish soap hope thats enough

Because of the poo troll.

Yes sometimes parenting involves poo and there’s no sense shying away from it but the poo troll just loves to get people talking poo

WildfirePonie · 07/12/2019 15:06

Sits back and waits for Lidl to recall their poo filled passata cartons

Watchitt · 07/12/2019 15:08

I thought it could be some kind of e coli contamination but not sure if e coli contamination would smell like that, anyone knows? And it being cooked would have killed all bacteria yes?

OP posts:
Soubriquet · 07/12/2019 15:13

If it was the poo troop, surely thru would be asking who has had the squits after eating the passata.

Bonus points for saying they lost control of their bowels in a public place

Soubriquet · 07/12/2019 15:13

Troll not troop

Thanks autocorrect Xmas Hmm

KurriKurri · 07/12/2019 15:13

Tell Lidl and they should offer you a free holiday to the tomato growing region of Italy and an advert contract (cf the woman who told them their wine tasted like cat's piss)

Watchitt · 07/12/2019 15:21

KurriKurri no need , as said before DH is italian so I do get free holidays in italy already. Not looking for any compensation(other then the small amount of money I paid) , was merely thinking it would be good to warn others and check if anyone had the same. Shoot me.

Just stopping by to confirm that the OP's a very long-term member of the site, just trying to ask a genuine question about a dodgy batch of passata.

Enough with the troll hunting, please! Smile

dreamerofdreams27 · 07/12/2019 15:29

If there is a poo troll (and I've been on MN for quite a few years now and never once encountered it) he/she must be absolutely thrilled that everyone is still so cautious and aware of their presence. What infamy.

Seriously though, people should grow up.

RightYesButNo · 07/12/2019 15:30

@Watchitt No, E. coli shouldn’t smell like anything or it would be much easier to avoid. I guess when they grow huge amounts in labs, it can have a “flowery” smell, sometimes described as sweet or like vanilla. But it doesn’t smell like the shit it comes from.

With that said, if something had actual feces in it and you’re smelling that, then that could be a whole host of bacteria besides E. coli. Though I still think it unlikely that’s what was in your passata making the smell, or they would have heard from a lot of people by now, I think, and had sickness, recalls, etc.

JenniferM1989 · 07/12/2019 15:30

It could be that the tomatoes that were used didn't get washed properly or got into contact with fertiliser 😮

KurriKurri · 07/12/2019 15:40

@Watchitt
Apologies - I think from your reply that you must have read my post as being rude - implying you were out for compensation - not my intention at all. I was making a joke about the advert (the woman on it is an actor not a genuine customer). If you haven't seen the advert the joke would fall totally flat.
I'm sorry - it was just flippant comment making fun of Lidl not of you. Flowers

Watchitt · 07/12/2019 15:45

kurrikurri apologies i mis understood you. No havent seen the advert.
