Not an aibu but posting here for traffic.

Finally gone into labour, started off 2 days ago and it’s bloody awful. Never felt pain like it. I think this will be my only child.

Anyway, lost a big glob or brown mucus plug and now about 10-15 mins ago lost a clearer glob with is tinged with blood. I’m actually over due and am 40 weeks and 4 days now. I’m booked in for a stretch and sweep but will they still do it if I have already expelled the plug?

Any suggestions on how to cope with the pain? I’ve been having bath, taking paracetamol, tens machine. I know nothing will take it away completely but Jesus wept it hurts. I can’t even drift off to sleep and let me body do it’s thing. I’ve had about 4 hours sleep in the last 2 days 😩

Further to this I’ve had a hot curry, bounced on the ball. Not a cat in hells chance am I having sex lol already feel like I’ve been booted between the legs!

Are you in labour? Have you rung the labour ward number on your notes to talk to a midwife?

Heartburn888 · 05/12/2019 06:03

I went down yesterday early
Hours and she said I was a finger tips worth dilated. She said I also had a uti which was the reason for the extreme pain. I haven’t rang since though? She said if my waters go then to ring and come down

Phone your labour ward, they could bring you in if you have lost your plug. Good luck

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 05/12/2019 06:07

From my experience (3 kids), I had no pain in labour until I was close to fully dilated and about to go into transition. I know and appreciate every woman is different though. I'm just worried for you that this pain isn't labour but something else? Please go and get checked lovely lady.
You're losing your plug though, it seems, which means things are moving.

I hope you have a great labour so congratulations and sending lots of positive vibes.

triptrapdollydumpling · 05/12/2019 06:08

Phone the Labour ward and try to keep moving- not long now Flowers

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 05/12/2019 06:08

Ah cross posted, just read about UTI :(

Bluerussian · 05/12/2019 06:09

I hope you were given something for the UTI. It doesn't sound right that you've been in pain for two days.

Heartburn888 · 05/12/2019 06:09

Thank you I will give them a ring.

Oh your very lucky to not have any pains lol I can’t find a comfortable position at all. This poor tens machine has taken a hammering let me tell you!

Yeah they have me some antibiotics. I was a bit confused when she said as surely the midwife would have picked it up when I take her my urine sample? But the midwife at the hospital said the one I go see only tests for protein where as she tested for nitrates

I had to get my waters, broken on all three births, so I think you should get checked out because you could now be further dilated.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 05/12/2019 07:03

I was in labour for 3 days (3cm dilated for 2 and a half!).
When I lost my mucus plug there was a bit of blood so I went back to the hospital and they said I was 6cm and admitted me.
My waters broke about an hour before I gave birth. DD was born 6 hours after I was admitted.

Baby will be here before you know it! Good luck x

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 05/12/2019 09:44

Please keep us updated, I'm so excited for you and I hope you have a safe delivery.

RebootYourEngine · 05/12/2019 10:20

Why haven't you phoned the labour ward?

Sounds silly but keep moving. Hopefully baby will be here soon.

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 05/12/2019 10:32

Hi OP

I had two really slow labours. First one was 4 days and I ended up on a drip and being prepped for c section by the time the baby came. That was 4 days of contracting every 3 min but my body just naturally couldn't get to 10cm by itself.

The first time I was delirious by the time the baby came and my body was so exhausted I retained the placenta so had to have it manually removed.

The second time I could see things were going the same way and insisted on going into the hospital and asking for something to help me sleep. They gave me pethidine as I was too early for epidural and I slept a few hours then when I was more dilated they gave me an epidural and I slept a few more hours. It was a lot more relaxed and I can remember it a lot better because I wasnt hallucinating with tiredness.

I would go to the hospital and insist you need some proper pain relief so that you can sleep. You wouldn't do anything physical and demanding like a marathon with no sleep so I dont know why people are expected to give birth running on empty. Say you want a vaginal birth but the way you're going you will have no energy left for pushing. Get your birth partner to be demanding for you as well, my husband was great the second time and basically said 'I'm not taking her home' and they admitted me to the ward even though I was only a couple of cm.

Also make sure you drink plenty of water as well for the UTI. Get your birth partner to remind you. Did they send a sample off to check the type of bug? Please be aware that until they have done this, the antibiotics may not be the right ones so make sure you get it re checked if it's not better in a few days.

Good luck!

Thank you, that’s helpful to know. I didn’t even realise I had one until she tested for it and since it’s come to my attention passing urine has been so painful!

I’m back home now, I went down in tears and the midwife said it’s because I’m running on empty and her priory was to get me relaxed, fed, hydrated and some sleep. She gave me some paracetamol and some coding which really did take the edge off but didn’t end up falling asleep as I had a contraction each time my mind was starting to drift.

She had examined me and I’m not further dilated (1cm)than what I was yesterday early hours which was quite painful to hear. She said I could stay if I wanted as I seemed really relaxed (I was) but that my cervix has softened and it’s moving in the right direction. Opted to come home as I don’t want to be taking up a bed for someone who needs it more than what I do as I have a bath at home and the midwife advised to keep active so going to have a bath and have a potter around town.
She was so nice and explained everything for me and answered my questions in a way where I didn’t feel like an idiot and she said I can come back anytime as she would rather me be reassured than sat having a worry about things

Oh goodness. Sounds like my first labour. Lots of contractions starting and stopping for two or three days... Nothing happening with cervix... Then all of a sudden things start progressing quickly.
