These expressions on social media:

E.g 'here's a picture of x person and it's a whole mood'

X is ' low key 'doing this/doing that

'Slay!'

'I'm dead'

When someone posts something the reader finds amusing

It irrationally annoys me.

Smart phones and the rise in everything having an app

Streaming tv/films being the norm

Brexit

Veganism is mainstream

WiFi (I still had to connect my laptop to the router in 2009, I remember because I remember the dog chewing the wire and he was only born in 2009)

Petrichor interesting you should say that cos I was a home internet virgin in 2009. I can remember Thursday 20th August 2009 I was so excited-I was late to the party having my first internet installed but from memory it was indeed wifi - no wire connection needed?

Night school courses and the like have dried up
Banks are slowly disappearing from small towns and villages

Selfies are the done thing now. In 2009 we saw a guy in a museum posing by statues and he stood out for being the only one there doing that. Now everyone's at it. In fact, I remember the first time I saw an image of someone using a crude version of a selfie stick and that must have been after 2010, now they're everywhere as well.

Everything has got more expensive, public services have been run down, wages have stagnated. Huge chunks of our tax base have evaporated due to international companies brexit proofing their operations.

Meanwhile people are spending as much as ever. Stupid.

Austerity
Increase in child poverty
Acceptance of a Prime Minister with no morals
Same-sex marriage
Language inflation (you cannot just be sorry, you have to be very sorry, to give a simple example)
Clothing being of much poorer quality

2007, my best friend had one and I remember using it thinking touch screen was hideous Grin.

Definitely true that smartphones hadn’t really taken off nor had apps.

Increase in Autism. If you meet a group of mother now one of them will have a kid with ASD.

Transgender. I don’t think the word was even coined 10 years ago. I’d certainly never heard it.

'I can't even'

You can't even what?!? Angry
Drives me mad!

Also irritates me that people speak like 'let's go beach' rather than say 'let's go to the beach'

I find myself cringing a lot at the phrases people say these days. However if I look back at the statuses I wrote 10 years ago then I REALLY cringe!

caravanette we may have just been behind the times! I don’t think WiFi was as widespread as it is now, at least.

Ooh if anyone’s interested, I dug out these articles the other day:

www.independent.co.uk/news/science/the-world-in-2020-a-glimpse-into-the-future-1853924.html

www.independent.co.uk/news/science/the-world-in-2020-thrift-hard-work-ndash-and-no-smoking-1854761.html

In summary, they got quite a few bits right:

✅ consistently high property prices
✅ a great 'Unforeseen Event of 2015' (one year out)
✅ a political ‘magic grandpa”
✅ BoJo Tory leader
✅ no longer trusting what you see on the internet
✅ electric car charging points everywhere
✅ still no flying cars :(
✅ increasing unacceptability of smoking
✅ stupidly increased booze prices (albeit not quite to £10)
✅ contactless over cash
✅ old people using the Internet of Things
✅ depressed spending
✅ French burqa ban
✅ the dark web
✅ 5 hottest years on record

How could I forget contactless? I was a late adopter as my debit card isn’t contactless, but since I got round to setting up Apple Pay I almost never carry cash!

Shops are more accepting of card payments for small amounts as well, probably as contactless speeds up the process so much
