To get my puppy a dog pram?

TreeMenDos · 04/12/2019 13:53

8 weeks.

I want to take her out to socialise but I can't carry her around whilst I walk my older dog.

Even when she's completed her vaccination course she won't be able to walk like the older one so I thought I could just push her for the remainder.

I'm not usually a person who gives a shit about what people think but I can help but think I'll look like a nob 😂
Would I look crazy

We got one for our oldies. It was great, they loved it, I could put shopping in it as well, didn’t get any negative comments, just lots of requests for photos and queries as you where we’d bought it! photo removed by MNHQ at OP's request

@SandyClawsIsComingToTown

😍😍😍

There was a woman near me who used to take her parrot out on a leash. Quite literally stopped the traffic, she did.

Go for it. #yolo

Why can't people realise that dogs are dogs. It is not natural to carry them in arms or a bag all the time. Buy a Barbie if you want to do that. If you have trained your adult dog properly and do the same with the puppy there is not a problem with taking more than one dog at a time. Just be careful with a young puppy that you do not walk for very long - bad for legs and hips. Give puppy a chance to be at home alone when you take longer walks with the adult(s). That, too, is part of basic training.

TreeMenDos · 04/12/2019 18:08

Perch did you even read my posts?

I have a disability which means I can't carry things and the pup is 8 weeks old. How can I socialise her otherwise when, for the next 4 weeks, she can't go on the floor?

Do you think I would put a fully vaccinated, older dog in a pram?

Can't you see it's a temporary solution to an immediate problem?

pigsDOfly · 04/12/2019 18:17

Several posters on here clearly didn't read you post OP.

Go for it.

If anyone does make stupid remarks just walk on knowing you're giving your little puppy a good start and ignore them.

MarshaBradyo · 04/12/2019 18:20

Astrid that would make me smile seeing that

FrogFairy · 04/12/2019 18:22

Do it.

A family friend used one for her elderly dog when they could no longer manage a long walk. Owner would push the pram to the dog’s favourite grassy walking area and dog could enjoy a stroll and sniff around then happily get back in the pram for the journey home. It helped the dog have a decent quality of life in their twilight time.

BlueEyedFloozy · 04/12/2019 18:26

Go for it.

Best of both worlds for you, pooch and pup. Still get to enjoy your long walks whilst protecting the wee one.

Fuck anyone who judges.

Reallynowdear · 04/12/2019 18:27

Do it.

My little dog is getting older and doesn't love his walks so much these days. I am going to buy one at springtime as I love walking and don't like to leave him on his own for too long.

It doesn't bother me at all what other people think I look like.

heartsonacake · 04/12/2019 18:29

Absolutely ridiculous. If you cannot effectively walk all the animals you have acquired you shouldn’t have got them. That is very irresponsible.

Ragwort · 04/12/2019 18:32

You will look like a nob but if you don’t care, so what? There is a lady in our town who has one, she is out daily with her dog, she goes to cafes and lets the dog eat off the plates, disgusting. I now avoid anywhere she goes but she clearly doesn’t care.

Clymene · 04/12/2019 18:33

God the level of reading comprehension on here is shocking.

Do it. I carried my puppy in a handbag before he could go on the floor

CAG12 · 04/12/2019 18:59

Please dont. Dogs have legs, you need to build his strength

astridstar · 04/12/2019 19:04

@MarshaBradyo Smilethey loved it, they were 15 & 14 respectively and one was blind when that photo was taken but still trotted to the door when they heard the leads being taken out of the cupboard. We'd start out walking with our younger dog and when they got tired we'd pop them into the buggy or take them in the buggy to the park where we got them out for a potter around. They got lots of attention when in the buggy from people we met and they were terriers who loved to be made a fuss of. We used to joke that both of them had developed Royal waves! Sadly they both died last year but I think it made their twilight years happier.

Thethiniceofanewday · 04/12/2019 19:06

Do what’s right for you and the pup. I have a pram for my senior dog and yes, the first few times I felt like an absolute twat! But it means he is getting out and I can let him go as far as he wants without having to worry about getting him home again.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 04/12/2019 19:09

I think it's a good idea. Puppy needs to get used to noises and smells while they're young. If you cannot carry pup then why not use a pram.

pigsDOfly · 04/12/2019 19:13

@CAG12. Did you not read the OP? The puppy is 8 weeks old.

An 8 week old puppy should not be walking in the street.

Lunafortheloveogod · 04/12/2019 19:33

It’s your puppy, you aren’t hurting or endangering it.. go a head!

We had one for our ddog after her c section, no jumping, no long walks etc and we used it for her and the puppies vet visits until she had the ok to walk and the puppies were fully vaccinated. Vet loved it, meant our boy still got a walk and she could do as much as she was comfortable with and then rest. They wouldn’t make them if they didn’t have a purpose. We reused ours for my dm’s elderly dog who loved going to more outdoorsy walks (he couldnt do the full walk so he got a ride when he was knackered).

You’ll probably spend £20 on crap regularly anyway so it’s not a huge expense.

Gobelinoisawitchescat · 04/12/2019 19:44

I had a bag for mine and carried him around so he could be socialised. Obviously you’ve mentioned that you can’t so that so I think a pram is fine. Enjoy your puppy

Pinkblueberry · 04/12/2019 19:47

No, that would look silly. And be silly. Doggy prams are for older dogs or poorly dogs that struggle to walk as far as I know. Puppies are in many ways like babies - but the similarities certainly end with putting them in a bloody pram Confused

bobstersmum · 04/12/2019 19:56

I think people who have these are mad. Unless the dog is very old or ill, but even then, leave it at home?

Butchyrestingface · 04/12/2019 20:01

I think @Pinkblueberry is dead inside. Xmas Sad

Your pupz, your rulz, OP.

Inebriati · 04/12/2019 20:04

Whats more important, socialising your pup or what other people think?
You need a thicker hide because when he's older you'll need to train him in public...

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 04/12/2019 20:05

I think you should add a poll. Nothing wrong with it, both dogs dont get left out. You still have the benefit of walking. Ignore the snobbery its not permanent x
