Disclaimer: I'm in a really shitty mood, but why in fuck's name do ppl post on a thread that's hours or days long with THE most simplistic suggestion, like "you need to call them" (a current thread)?

Read. The. Fu*king. Thread. People!

And no, I ANBU. Don't @ me 😂

OP posts:
Vulpine · 03/12/2019 14:36

If i had more time i might consider rtft, but you know, life is busy Grin

MinnieMountain · 03/12/2019 14:40

Another one who's annoyed by asterisks in swear words.

Bluetrews25 · 03/12/2019 14:41

Simple enough at the start to see it has 30 pages....if you can't be arsed reading it all, don't bother replying.
Many's the time I have a perfect (obviously) response, but find some other PP has given it at the bottom of page 5....

Aaaaaand breathe.

coconuttelegraph · 03/12/2019 15:22

If i had more time i might consider rtft, but you know, life is busy

But not too busy to make likely repeatative or irrelevant comments based on the OP only, I don't get why you would bother

Vulpine · 03/12/2019 15:25

i dont do that. But it doesnt annoy me when people do cos its a free world

Redglitter · 03/12/2019 15:26

I saw a thread the other day. The OP conceded a couple of pages in that yes shed BU and took the advice people had given. Pages later people were still jumping on her for her original post.

So YANBU - RTFT is always good advice

breakfastpizza · 03/12/2019 15:32

It's for this reason that I think MN should give you the option to filter to show OP only posts, not just highlight them.

This. As much as I enjoy reading responses, I'm not trawling through 40 pages to find an update from the OP.

Ginfordinner · 03/12/2019 15:34

It's for this reason that I think MN should give you the option to filter to show OP only posts, not just highlight them.

If you are on a laptop you can select ctrl F and type the OP’s name in the box, then you can jump from one OP post to the next.

I got round the frustration of posters not reading the OP’s updates on a recent thread, by screenshotting the highlighted update and posting it on my post Grin

*@PianoThirty *Click on the arrow next to “Talk” and select customise then find “Highlight posts by thread author:” and select a colour. Then you will see all the OP’s posts highlighted.

AlphaNumericalSequence · 03/12/2019 15:37

I always used to RTFT before replying, back in the day when I used MN a lot and knew so many of the regular posters. But these days I just dip briefly into MN when there is nothing much going down on Twitter and I just don't feel engaged enough to read a whole thread.

I wouldn't post if I felt that I was interrupting a fairly focused conversation, but the impression I often have of MN these days is that threads tend to be quite fractured lonely places. Lots of posters that don't know each other, lots of people only engaging very briefly with the thread. It feels a bit more like Twitter in that respect than it used to. Less of a community, more of a busy high street where people exchange a few words as they pass one another.

I probably shouldn't post at all, but then there is always the option to skim past an uninteresting contribution.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/12/2019 15:40

I managed to highlight the OPs posts and I'm not remotely technical

Misses point Blush

Did they calibrate the machine though ? ( Too thick milkshake thread)

Confusedbeetle · 03/12/2019 15:43

Are you lot having a long tea break?

WhitePhantom · 03/12/2019 15:45

Well said OP - very annoying!

What's also really annoying is when the OP of a thread NAME CHANGES half way through so you can't even scan for their (highlighted) updates - why do people do that??!! Angry

fishonabicycle · 03/12/2019 15:46

OP - no is a complete answer. (tinkly laugh)

fishonabicycle · 03/12/2019 15:47

Now I can shoot myself.

Ginfordinner · 03/12/2019 16:00

It depends on the topic AlphaNumerical

The education threads tend to have a lot of continuation, especially the further and higher education threads. They are also very supportive.

QueenOfOversharing · 03/12/2019 16:14

@ALemonyPea sorry!didnt want to offend folk... you know, who are easily & pearl-clutchingly offended. Fuckers.

OP posts:
QueenOfOversharing · 03/12/2019 16:15

@Vulpine you will be first against the wall, but thank you for admitting your transgressions.

QueenOfOversharing · 03/12/2019 16:16

@pippistrelle haha! I'm far too juvenile for such high-minded stuff.

OP posts:
QueenOfOversharing · 03/12/2019 16:17

@MilleniumHallsWalledGarden but have you ever seen the pearl-clutchers get offended? I can't have such trauma on my fucking conscience.

OP posts:
QueenOfOversharing · 03/12/2019 16:18

ChesterDrawer · 03/12/2019 16:20

RTT

Any other NHS people think this was a post about pathways?!

QueenOfOversharing · 03/12/2019 16:21

@Bluetrews25 exactly. It's not that difficult. But I am just being irrationally pissed off.

OP posts:
kateandme · 03/12/2019 16:22

you can change their colour yes.but still,if there are 40 billion pages to find the colour down each time.
so i still think there should be a function to just bring all the ops post to the top or one page.
