To think my colleague should have asked before including my photo in a quiz

So, this morning, people who have been doing a quiz have been coming up to me and saying they thought my baby phot was cute/funny/difficult to guess.

I was initially mystified and now a bit miffed to discover that the 'Quizmaster' had used a photo I supplied last year for a 'pictures of the Staff Committee as babies' intranet feature that was never used in his intranet quiz 12 months later.

If he'd asked me, I would have said 'yes' but he didn't.

Complain. Complain to his LM. Complain to the MD. Basically complain to everyone and anyone. Despite the fact that you would have said yes if he'd asked. You supplied the photo, he didn't nick it off your FB page. Get over it.

Doggodogington · 02/12/2019 15:16

Hmm you are going to complain about him using a photo you willingly supplied? Ok then.

Perisoire · 02/12/2019 15:17

YABU. It’s the bloody intranet and you already agreed to a similar request! The horse has bolted. You can complain and they will probably rap him on the knuckles.

Unless he targeted you specifically?

countdowntochristmas · 02/12/2019 15:17

I think because you had already given prior permission .
Perhaps if it bothered you should of asked for picture back if it wasn't used last time . Also you said if you were asked you would if said yes so not sure of the issue.

MegaClutterSlut · 02/12/2019 15:29

This really wouldn't bother me at all tbh especially if I have already supplied the pic previously. I'm not sure you have a leg to stand on tbh

WhatchaMaCalllit · 02/12/2019 15:30

You had given permission for a photo of you to be used in one quiz, 12 months ago, where people had to guess who the baby grew up to be, and this colleague used it again in a completely separate quiz? Is that right? Was the same colleague involved in setting the questions for both quizzes?

I'd be saying to them that you gave it for one express purpose and expected it to be deleted afterwards. There's not a huge amount you can do about it now but you can definitely make sure that the photo is deleted so it can't be used in the future.

TotorosNeighbour · 02/12/2019 15:34

He should have asked, although you supplied the picture and consented it was for a specific purpose

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 02/12/2019 15:42

YANBU but I would mention it in a lighthearted way.

At least you will get one question correct

heartsonacake · 02/12/2019 15:44

YABU. You already supplied to the photo last year so it makes sense you would be okay with it being used again (and you have said yourself you would have been had he danced to your tune).

AdalindMeisner · 02/12/2019 15:50

YANBU. Yes you supplied the photo but that was 12 months ago for one particular quiz. After that quiz whether your photo was used or not previously it should have been deleted unless you also gave permission for it to be stored/held for future use.

ASandwichNamedKevin · 02/12/2019 15:53

I'd be a bit miffed, as Adalind says you supplied it for a quiz a year ago, not this one.
At least though your colleagues aren't saying you were an ugly little thing not all babies are cute.

DarlingNikita · 02/12/2019 16:00

I think YANBU because you supplied the photo a long time ago for one use. It should have been deleted or permission sought again.

melj1213 · 02/12/2019 16:08

I wouldnt be bothered about the use of the photo in the quiz as presumably the annoyance is more that you weren't given a heads up about it.

However I would be bothered about the fact that a photo you submitted for a quiz feature 12 months ago is still being held and is accessible on the system. I wouldnt be happy knowing my picture was stored on a work system and would be asking for it to be deleted

theemmadilemma · 02/12/2019 16:25

I once had a photo taken at work for marketing purposes. I signed the waver knowing it meant it could be used as and when.

What I didn't expect was to walk in the building and see myself on a banner hanging from the 3rd floor balcony of the internal atrium down to the floor. Me in giant size.

So it could be worse...

YouSawThePlans · 02/12/2019 16:50

You already supplied the photo and gave permission for it to be used on the intranet. I doubt anything stated the pic had to be used in a certain time frame. You'd seem foolish to complain.

Nannewnannew · 02/12/2019 16:51

Unless it was a naked in the bath baby photo I couldn’t get worked up over it. I don’t really understand your concern to be honest.

mastertomsmum · 03/12/2019 11:46

A mere verbal permission was given and it was to be used for an 'our Committee when they were young feature', and it was last year, and I'm not on the Committee now and neither is he. It's also not a quiz on the staff intranet.

I have no intention of saying anything to him but he has been on a GDPR Course and knows as well as I do it's not best practice.

SmoothOrange - this is so one off and not exactly the stuff that happens on the average day or in the average workplace. I'm miffed at it and know it's not good practice. Exhausted, no. Wearingly bizzare replies are too odd to bother about so don't exhaust yourself working so hard to make one

Trimbls · 03/12/2019 13:06

If you'd have given permission anyway & already did last year it doesn't really warrant a complaint IMO.

mastertomsmum · 03/12/2019 13:09

That's all folks now though as there have been some very nasty replies.

I'm not referring to the last poster, by the way.

Cohle · 03/12/2019 13:12

People's replies aren't bizarre just because they don't agree with you. Hmm

Nixen · 03/12/2019 13:13

Must be nice to have so little to worry about to get worked up over this

misspiggy19 · 03/12/2019 13:16

YABU- you supplied the photo and gave permission. Don’t see the issue here

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/12/2019 13:18

You need to redo that GDPR course!
