To not vote?

Prob been done to death, but I’m just not sure I can bring myself to vote for any of them.

YABU. Either Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbin will be the next prime minister.

I get you hate both of them. But don’t you hate one more than the other? Even the slightest bit?

If you don’t vote you are saying I think they’re both exactly as bad as each other.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 02/12/2019 07:06

If you don't want to vote then don't, but do remember that the MPs represent you as a constituency, it's not only about national politics.

lidoshuffle · 02/12/2019 07:10

I do understand being hacked off with the whole lot of them. But women have died to give us the right to vote. My own mother was born when not all women had it. It is our duty, pain though it is, to do so.

MagentaRocks · 02/12/2019 07:11

I understand where you are coming from but I do think it is important to vote, I think it is a case of voting for the one that isn’t as bad as the other.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 02/12/2019 07:14

@Newbie1999 it's important to remember that there are more than 2 parties. It doesn't matter if the person you vote for is unlikely to win. If enough people vote for underdogs the bigger parties will start to look at why and eventually may take their policies into consideration

bellinisurge · 02/12/2019 07:15

I've been heavily criticised on here for saying I'm going to spoil my paper.
I despise Corbyn and Johnson equally for different reasons. My alternatives are Brexit Party (hell hasn't frozen over) and various Non-Man parties. My local Labour sitting MP, while a good guy, is the wrong side of an important local issue.

Mrshook · 02/12/2019 07:18

YABU don't take democracy for granted. No vote equals no right to complain. It's your duty - think about the women who fought to give you the right to vote.

SimonJT · 02/12/2019 07:20

I do think voting should be compulsory, people gave their lives so that all adults in the UK could vote.

If you’re unsure see if you have a local independent candidate, voting for them could save them having to pay back their fee.

Parkrunner25 · 02/12/2019 07:25

YABA. If you honestly feel you can't vote for any of the candidates, please go and spoil your ballot. They're recorded differently, won't be seem as voter apathy, and doesn't take your right to vote for granted.

BertrandRussell · 02/12/2019 07:30

Either choose your least worse option. Or if you live in an unshakably safe seat, vote to reduce the majority a bit to make it a bit less safe. Or spoil your ballot paper. But vote. Please.

Letseatgrandma · 02/12/2019 07:34

I have never not voted and can’t see this ever changing.

I also think voting should be compulsory.

Goldenchildsmum · 02/12/2019 07:34

I think not voting is not on. The least you can do is make a choice or if you absolutely can't vote then spoil your paper.

Newbie1999 · 02/12/2019 07:37

I’ve never not voted before, and totally agree with the person who said you’ve no right to complain etc if you don’t vote. I’m just so stuck for the first time.

Will need to look into more local politics a bit more.

I'm in a similar situation and I've had my postal vote sitting here for a bout a week already. I think it's a safe win for party A, but who knows this time round?

If I vote party A, then it's against my view on [major issue 1] but pro my view on [major issue 2]
If I vote party B, I get one that is pro [major issue 1] but very against [major issue 2] AND runs the risk of party C getting in (who I despise).
If hell froze over and I voted party C, then I run the risk of party B getting in.

And so the merry go round continues.

bellinisurge · 02/12/2019 07:43

Spoiling your ballot is still voting.

TabbyMumz · 02/12/2019 07:50

Its entirely up to you if you vote or not. People died to give women the vote "if they wanted it". They didnt die to force people to vote who dont want to. It's your choice. We live in a different time to the sufferagetes.

Galvantula · 02/12/2019 07:52

Kinda similar to you Buzz. Most likely party to win here is not Tories. Good.

However, of the 2 likely to be fighting it out I fundamentally disagree with what they stand for.

Party D it of my choice is so far behind that even if I did think they were good, it'd feel like a waste and less likely to help keep the 3rd place Tories out.

It feels a bit nuts to deliberate over my one measly vote, but I've never found this quite so hard!

MeTheCoolOne · 02/12/2019 07:53

I don't want to vote for any of them but I will. Still can't decide who. They are so awful.

I'm in the 'you can't complain if you don't vote' camp.

ZenNudist · 02/12/2019 07:55

YABU

Vote!

ohiyo · 02/12/2019 07:55

No vote equals no right to complain.

As a dual citizen who so often faces bad choices on either side of the pond, it's practically my patriotic duty to post this whenever I read that.

elderlee · 02/12/2019 07:59

I am voting for the policies not the people if that helps at all?

HappydaysArehere · 02/12/2019 08:00

If everyone thought it wasn’t worth voting for a party not likely to win then that party won’t ever have a chance. Reduce the safety of the safe seat candidates and have a voice.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 02/12/2019 08:02

@elderlee I think the majority of the country are doing so this time around.

I would never choose Corbyn, Johnson or Swinson as PM, realistically, but one of them will win (although maybe not Swinson.)

RebootYourEngine · 02/12/2019 08:33

It should be compulsory to vote but there should be a box names 'NONE' if you don't want any of them. Would be interesting to see the outcome of that poll.

bellinisurge · 02/12/2019 08:37

I know that Johnson or Corbyn will be PM (probably Johnson). I don't think any party deserves my vote this time.
