To think I’m not lazy for getting my shopping delivered..

So, I get my shopping delivered most weeks. Mainly because I have social anxiety and shopping is a struggle, nearest large supermarket is 20 minutes away, time, children with sen who don’t like shopping and I also spend less money getting it delivered as I don’t pick up any unnecessary items.

A few times mil and her partner have said I am lazy for not going to the shop, stupid for not shopping or trying Aldi or Lidl to save some money (I tend to get shopping delivered by Tesco most weeks, sometimes Asda or occasionally Sainsburys).

Stupid comments like go to the shop like a normal person, how would you come back in our day, you’d save so much money! They aren’t just trying to be helpful. It’s just their way or no way.

I’m sick of it.

I’m sick of the ‘we coped without back in the day’. Surely we all use things that are more readily available to us now and make our lives easier?

They’re being ridiculous, you don’t have to “cope back in their day” because internet shopping is available to you.

I use Ocado, so definitely not the cheapest option available to me but I spend less than if I go in Aldi or Lidl because I don’t pick up unnecessary impulse purchases, I can meal plan much more easily, check the cupboards as I’m shopping and I can track the spending and adjust the order.

I HATE supermarket shopping because by the time you’ve driven there and back, got stuck behind dawdlers and unpacked you’ve lost half a day compared to the hour delivery slot.

You're not being lazy at all.
Wish I would do this but I put myself through the pain of food shopping because I'm worried if I order online they will give me rubbish dates on fresh food

@AG29 Ah bollocks to 'em.

I have never done my grocery shopping online (bit of of a freak I am, and love doing the grocery shopping in the store!) Blush

But some people I know do. The lass and lad next door (25 and 27,) with 2 wee bairns, have a delivery around 6 times a month from Morrisons, and they also have loads from amazon and ebay, and they tumble dry everything too.

All a bit odd to some (to me even.) But they probably think I am an oddity too, for putting 2 loads of washing out (on the line,) today, when the top temp was 4 degrees C. Blush I also go out to do a big shop when there is 2 foot of snow, (and the shops are 3 miles away,) when I could order it online.

Each to their own. No-one is wrong.

Ignore them. There is always SOMEONE who has a bloody opinion on how you live you life. A-holes!

Oh and I also hate the 'I don't know what you would have done in MY day' bollux. So condescending and scornful.

Online shopping/delivery is a godsend. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
What I find weird is, not so long ago, before supermarkets (ok, long ago but within the past hundred years) we had the greengrocers, butchers, milkmen delivering groceries to homes.
We still have milkmen, veg boxes, wine deliveries, takeaways. Nobody ever calls us lazy for those sorts of deliveries.
I save so much more and waste so much less by buying what we will actually eat. Cruising up and down the food aisles is great for some. It's not my bag though.

PickAChew · 01/12/2019 22:38

If you're lazy, I'll join you on the idle bench. I do manage to get to the shop but still get loads of heavy and frozen stuff delivered by Sainsburys, using my midweek pass.

How does walking round the supermarket make you less lazy than walking round the house doing chores whilst you eat for the delivery.

It’s a fantastic concept, Saved me a fortune as I meal plan and buy what I need. Surely better for the environment to have one van do several houses than cars on the road.

Wakingupnow · 01/12/2019 22:42

I'm in my 50s and I remember a van coming round my granny's house delivering groceries. I love love love online shopping. It is a standing joke to my family that we could never move.to a place where there was no tesco delivery. Been doing online shopping so long I don't know how I would actually manage a big.shop at a real supermarket Blush

I wish it had been available when dc.was toddler , and as many other pp say, you dont impulse buy as much crap

Lifefallseasyonme · 01/12/2019 22:56

I can't imagine why someone would go to the supermarket. Waste of precious time.
