To ask how to vote?!

Timeforachangeofusername99 · 30/11/2019 19:57

I will definitely vote

My heart is with labour

I live in a lib dem area, with a close conservative second place. Labour probably doesnt have a chance here.

Do I vote Lib Dem, to stop the Tories taking the seat here?

Or do I vote labour?

Does a vote for labour help get them in power, or will it only matter if they get the seat here? In which case I should vote lib dem to keep the Tories out?

Thank you! I feel I should understand the system better Blush

You could end up voting Labour & getting Tory.
Is heart with Labour coz you very much like Corbyn's manifesto?

John470322 · 30/11/2019 20:03

The only votes that count are those that elect a candidate. In your situation I'd vote Lib Dem

MitziK · 30/11/2019 20:03

Your vote is only counted in your area.

You aren't voting for Johnson/Corbyn/Swanson, you're voting for your MP.

AlunWynsKnee · 30/11/2019 20:03

In your shoes I'd vote Lib Dem. There's no real benefit to any party who doesn't win the seat.

churchandstate · 30/11/2019 20:05

Vote with your heart.

AdoptedBumpkin · 30/11/2019 20:06

Vote Lib Dem for tactical reasons.

Poetryinaction · 30/11/2019 20:07

Lib Dem

HoomanMoomin · 30/11/2019 20:07

I’d vote for LibDem.

BabySocksNeverStayOn · 30/11/2019 20:08

Just vote Labour. We are in a Tory 'safe seat' but who cares? My vote is important no matter what.

Boredwithitnow · 30/11/2019 20:09

As I understand it votes do count towards Johnson//Corbyn//Swanson essentially as the totals of each area contribute to the whole.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 30/11/2019 20:10

Vote Lib Dem. it’s all about the tactical vote.

Kokapetl · 30/11/2019 20:14

In your shoes I'd vote for whichever party is most likely to win against the conservatives in your constituency. You could check tactical voting websites to work out which that is. tacticalvote.co.uk/key-seats/?fbclid=IwAR0pRGdfSombpLCfQcWXzhwnsZFLD-xMTF57Olsm6oNcLqmHCQSnG73VpiY

Treaclepie19 · 30/11/2019 20:15

Tactical. Lib dem.

ForalltheSaints · 30/11/2019 20:15

I agree with others that you should vote tactically and vote Lib Dem.

spacepyramid · 30/11/2019 20:18

Labour because looking at the national polls a vote for Lib Dems will just split the opposition to the Tories and make it more likely that they will win. I was going to vote LD but am going with Labour for that reason.

Auradal · 30/11/2019 20:18

Tactical Lib Dem.
Do you want a Conservative MP? If not, vote for the candidate most likely to beat them. ie. Lib Dem.

That's what you get with a first past the post polling system.
If we had proportional representation it would be a different story,

Bee1511 · 30/11/2019 20:19

Maybe we live in a similar area. We live in an area that was Lib Dem for many many years but Tories took over a few years ago (in the 2015 election I think).labour have never stood a chance he’d.

I really want to vote labour but statistically labour don’t stand a chance here so being told to vote Lib Dem to get the Tory MP out. But I don’t feel right voting for the Lib Dem MP when I don’t agree with their stances. The actual Tory MP doesn’t seem to bad but obviously he’s a Tory and we need them out. Technically voting labour here would mean a gain for the Tories.. 😏

Kokapetl · 30/11/2019 20:24

The individual votes don't count towards the leaders totals. Each constituency elects one MP, the one who gets the most votes in that area. Sometimes you get far more people voting for other parties e.g. if it was 15% Labour, 30% Lib dem, 10% Green and 35% Conservative, the conservatives would win. The government is made up of the party who has the most MPs (usually, sometimes no one party has enough). The leader of that party becomes PM.

Batmanandrobin123 · 30/11/2019 20:24

Lib dem

AlunWynsKnee · 30/11/2019 20:26

What are you talking about Boredwithitnow? Count as a whole? Towards what?

FiresideTreats · 30/11/2019 20:27

Vote tactically with Lib Dem.

Kokapetl · 30/11/2019 20:32

Those wanting to vote Labour in areas where only Lib Dems can win might look into vote swapping with Lib Dem supporters in areas where only Labour can win. There are websites for that too.

The differences between areas mean that national polls are often not useful as a guide to vote. Please vote tactically.

NetballHoop · 30/11/2019 20:33

In your situation I'd absolutely vote Lib Dem.

dreichXmas · 30/11/2019 20:56

You might want to think about what is your worst option and avoid that.
If a Tory getting the seat is your worst outcome then vote Lib Dem.
If Labour not getting the best possible percentage of national is your worst outcome vote then vote for them.

In our current first past the post system I would vote Lib Dem as the most effective way of not having a Tory government.

bridgetreilly · 30/11/2019 21:03

Vote with your heart.

Because honestly, the only thing that's for sure about this election is that it is completely unpredictable. People are changing their lifetime voting habits in all directions. Trying to vote tactically in that situation is pointless. So just vote for the candidate you actually want.
