McDonalds every week?

Butterflyflower1234 · 29/11/2019 17:42

I'm wondering AIBU to think giving children a McDonalds every week is too much?

My DP has three lovely DC and every week he takes them to McDonalds. Usually this is every Monday as he seems them for dinner but he missed it this week so he's taken them to McDonalds tonight 'as they missed out on Monday'.

The DC are coming home tonight so it now means that it's just us eating instead of us all eating together.

I have raised before that it won't harm them not to have a McDonalds every week but because they are used to it, they now expect it every week.

I think this is a classic Disney Dad move but of course I can't say too much as I'm not a parent. I just wondered what peoples opinions are?

Depends what they get. They could get a grilled chicken wrap with carrot sticks and a water. Just saying.

PurpleDaisies · 29/11/2019 19:37

littleduckeggblue who gets those?

SillyLittleBiscuit · 29/11/2019 19:44

mcdonalds once a week is not that big a deal but I f that’s the only meal dad is sorting and mum then had to do the rest it’s not great. Dad gets to plays good guy, mum has to deal with tantrums over broccoli.

PicsInRed · 29/11/2019 19:49

It's basically a meat, lettuce and tomato sandwich, with a side of fried potatoes.

Fast food isn't necessarily junk food. Honestly, if the rest of the week is "traditionally" healthy food, with plenty of variety and vegetables, it's fine.

adaline · 29/11/2019 19:50

McDonald's is just food. It's not crack.

x2boys · 29/11/2019 20:02

Lots of people have a takeaway, chippy tea etc once a week so I don't think.it's any worse than that there was a thread the other week about people putting left over McDonald's in a school.lunch box and lots of posters thought it was just fine ,at least they are getting it warm.

Stegosaurus1990 · 29/11/2019 20:09

I wouldn’t want it so frequently for my DC. We seldom have takeaways or fast food. Once a week for a full on meal is too frequent IMO.

Stegosaurus1990 · 29/11/2019 20:13

It’s ok people saying plenty of people have a takeaway once a week, as though that justifies it, but with 64.3% of adults being either overweight or obese you probably want to be in the minority of not having a takeaway each week...

user1493413286 · 29/11/2019 20:16

I think it’s fine as long as it’s the only unhealthy meal in the week but he can’t guarantee that so if their mum then treats them to something else on another night it’s suddenly all adding up.

LtJudyHopps · 29/11/2019 20:16

They’ll remember that as a fond memory with their dad it’s not the end of the world. There may even be a point where they get sick of it!

Birthdaycakemondays · 29/11/2019 20:17

My DC2 eats nothing, ever. She ate a WHOLE portion of fries at McDonald’s the other day. I was so happy. Long live Maccas. But that’s irrelevant. I don’t think once a week is bad, a lot of people have a take away once a week...

Having a takeaway a week doesn’t mean you’ll be overweight or obese.

hsegfiugseskufh · 29/11/2019 20:21

Once a week?

Totally fine. Couldnt get worked up about it. There are much worse things.

megletthesecond · 29/11/2019 20:21

Mine used to have McDonald's after swimming lessons.

Stegosaurus1990 · 29/11/2019 20:29

@PurpleDaisies

No. Not directly. But the habits of “plenty of people” on this post must be linked to the majority of people being overweight or obese.

hsegfiugseskufh · 29/11/2019 20:32

It takes more than one macdonalds a week to make you obese though doesnt it?

Crikey i eat loads of crap and ive never even been slightly overweight in my life. Its not just what you eat its the rest of your lifestyle and even your genetics

RollOnNextYear · 29/11/2019 20:36

It's fine 9/10 times we have a take away on a sat night Inc dcs. But on the other hand it's not expected. If I say we're cooking they're fine with it.

Stegosaurus1990 · 29/11/2019 21:29

We are in the midst of an obesity epidemic. McDs definitely isn’t helping is it?

The problem is, as with my own DSS Dad treats them “just once a week” Mum treats them when they get home cause she’s missed them, the Grandparents treat them...

OP asked for opinions. IMO it’s too frequent. I appreciate you don’t have to agree.

hsegfiugseskufh · 29/11/2019 21:32

Its not helping but at once a week its not the cause either.

Shadowboy · 29/11/2019 21:35

Mine go probably once a fortnight- not a planned thing- it’s usually if we get stuck on the motorway services or out shopping etc.

I don’t see it as a problem if their diet is healthy and the kids are active and not overweight.

VisionQuest · 29/11/2019 21:36

We have one every week on a Friday after school. It's a treat and hugely looked forward to (by them!)

The fact that they're not eating well for the rest of the week would be the concern here.

chuck7 · 29/11/2019 21:46

Sorry but when I see a dad alone with his kids in mcdonalds I think the same thing everytime. Disney dad, CBA to cook etc. Totally ridiculous, I go to mcdonalds myself and frequently Smile but I also cook fucking good meals for my family (or OH) most of the week. Why can't he cook for his kids?

hsegfiugseskufh · 29/11/2019 21:47

Wow how nasty and judgemental @chuck7

Cryalot2 · 29/11/2019 21:49

Dh and I go once a week, we enjoy it and know it is locally sourced. I also like to put change in the charity box.
I eat a plain burger in an unseeded bap with fries and a large black tea. Dh order varies.
Its inexpensive and why not.

chuck7 · 29/11/2019 21:49

@bollykecks how is it nasty? 😂 hate if you want but you can spot them a mile off.
