To think anyone thinking of voting Lib Dems

... needs to know this. They’ve admitted they won’t be scrapping Article 50. Better to vote Labour to get the evil Tories out.

our area is navy blue with xxxx mp who will get through - I haven't even seen any campaign leaflets for anybody else - the [well known health mp] cretin will get in dh & I will vote for opposition but its hopeless

Mistlewoeandwhine · 29/11/2019 18:00

I’m not a bit. I’m a very long time user. A mum and a teacher/home educator. I am a leftie I’ll admit it but I’m not a bot. I do think there have been quite a few Tory boys on here though and I do feel frustrated at how people like me are going to be shafted by the Tory-lovers on here. I am sick with worry for the future.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 29/11/2019 18:01

Sorry. All bits and boys = bots. Autocorrect.

burnagirl · 29/11/2019 18:01

You mean the party that wanted to see 16 year olds in porn?
The party whose members argued that pupils should be told that prostitution is a legitimate career option in school?
The pro-punter, pro-pimp party?
Oooh, the party that opposed restriction to extreme pornography, and in fact, opposed any plans to make it harder for kids to access porn?

LibDems are utter SHIT.

FriedasCarLoad · 29/11/2019 18:02

Let people vote for the other parties, change the system to a representative one, and force more collaboration between parties to work together with different idealogies with one common goal rather than opposite extremes in an echo chamber where everyone feels forced to vote for the better of two evils

This sounds great, but in reality it means governing by back room deals, resulting in less accountability.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 29/11/2019 18:02

As for the nuking thing. When Jo Swinson said she’d press the button, it made me physically sick. If someone nuked the UK, how the hell would nuking another country full of innocent families make anything better?

OP posts:
ddl1 · 29/11/2019 18:04

I think there are divisions between LDs about whether to just scrap it or have a second referendum - FWIW I prefer the latter anyway. I am voting LD, not because I think they're perfect, far from it, but because it's the tactical anti-Tory vote where I live, and because I think that Jo Swinson, though a bit underwhelming, is much better than Corbyn and INFINITELY better than Johnson.

TowelNumber42 · 29/11/2019 18:05

Well if you think parties other than your own are planning nuclear wars for a bit of a laugh, same for austerity, no wonder you are shitting yourself.

Maybe instead of lecturing nonsense at us you could find out what they actually believe so that when they win you can more effectively lobby them to consider your interests.

Almost everyone in politics is doing it because they believe they can improve the country. They aren't evil kleptocratic baby eating monsters. They just have different ideas to you of what will help the country best in the long run.

TowelNumber42 · 29/11/2019 18:07

If the school bully thinks you will punch him back he won't punch you in the first place. If you tell him he can do anything he likes and you won't do a thing then prepare to have your lunch money taken and your pants pulled down. Corbyn saying he wouldn't press the button worries me far more. It is an invitation to attack.

MelbaToast · 29/11/2019 18:08

I hate the thought of voting tactically. My view has always been to vote for the person who will do the best job. I've ruled out Corbyn because of the anti semitism, Boris because of his lack of morals and as a result I'm left with Jo. Will she do a good job is my question?

Mistlewoeandwhine · 29/11/2019 18:08

What happened to being a decent person? How have we come to the point where someone has to be vile to gain respect?

OP posts:
Cinammoncake · 29/11/2019 18:09

I'm voting LibDems as they most align with my views. Let's say 80 percent whereas Conservatives 5 percent and Labour 50 percent. So I'm going with what I consider best on that basis.

FatherB · 29/11/2019 18:09

This sounds great, but in reality it means governing by back room deals, resulting in less accountability.

Good to know everyone is being held accountable right now. Even better to be sure there are no back room deals going on.

ForalltheSaints · 29/11/2019 18:12

I would have thought many people would support a second referendum, so it would be low on the list of why not to vote Lib Dem.

Unless you live in Wales and have Plaid Cymru, or are a passionate Scot wanting independence and have the SNP, you have very little choice at all. It is very sad that for Prime Minister we have the choice of the worst ever, or the man who would become the second worst ever.

Witchend · 29/11/2019 18:13

What “sound” reasons can you have to vote for a pro-fracking, pro-austerity, pro-nuclear war party with no real agenda except to scrape up a few seats on the basis of stopping Brexit. Which they can’t even achieve.

Oooh. The Labour bots are obviously getting worried.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 29/11/2019 18:18

I’m not a bot and literally no one is worried about the Lib Dem’s, let’s face it.

OP posts:
wheresmymojo · 29/11/2019 18:20

Labour have zero chance in my constituency whereas Lib Dem do so....erm...no.

catlady3 · 29/11/2019 18:20

Sorry but you clearly haven't read the libdem manifesto if you think they don't have policies OP. Much more realistic than labour as well.

Witchend · 29/11/2019 18:20

Me thinks she doth protest too much... Grin

Mistlewoeandwhine · 29/11/2019 18:42

Witchend - have you seen the polls recently?

OP posts:
FatherB · 29/11/2019 18:46

What did the polls say about Brexit and/or Trump?

Not that this is equivalent but if you poll a group of people, all you know is what that group of people thought and even that isn't certain.

Topseyt · 29/11/2019 18:54

Whenever I look at this thread adverts for Boris Johnson toilet brushes and toilet paper come up on my phone. Grin

Apparently it has a 15 inch handle and the bristles represent Boris's hair, so you are stuffing his head down the bog to brush away the shit.

Could be appropriate perhaps?

I can't stand him, btw. I'm tossing up between voting Labour or Green. Probably Labour though, as it seems the better tactical voting option in this safe Conservative seat.

curlykaren · 29/11/2019 19:01

The momentum bot accusations are getting pretty tiresome. The OP is a long time member who is confident enough in her convictions to continue to post under her user name. I have seen MANY first time posters starting Boris bot threads, do you bother to pull them up? Or just join in with the internet kicking of people, who are often expressing a preference to vote labour, because their own lives have been so difficult under conservatives. You have your own Johnson fan girl threads, which frankly illustrate with perfect clarity, why people should be so worried about another conservative government.

LeggyLinda · 29/11/2019 19:09

I’m a Lib Dem member and supporter - I am still delivering leaflets for them (because I promised to). But I do this with a heavy heart and a lack of enthusiasm.

I will not.vote Lib Dem this time around. As this is a (relatively) anonymous forum I’m happy to finally admit that.

Though great locally, the Parliamentary have been an absolute bunch of wankers for at least 10 years. Many grass root supporters feel the same.
We are sick and tired of defending the flip-flop policies changed (almost daily) on a whim. The votes on policy supposedly agreed at conferences are not representative of the party as a whole.

But most of all; I have met Jo Swinson. I campaigned for her husband when we lived in Wiltshire. He turned out to be a twat - he literally went back in everything once in government and refused to take calls from local party members and constituents.
His wife (jo), from the one time I met her was a perfect match for him: obnoxious, self important and career politician. I got the impression she would not care what party she was a member of - as long as she got elected.

I know my local MP. He is surprisingly friendly and good. But he is conservative otherwise I would vote for him instead.

I will spoil my vote as will my DH and countless others I expect (if they even bother)
