To wonder where all the posters are? (election related)

By now, I would have expected to see the usual banners in fields, on fences, posters in peoples' windows etc etc.

But round here there is literally nothing - are people apathetic, or afraid to express their allegiance?

What's it like round your way?

BTW this is nothing to do with which party you want to vote for, and I'm not looking for a political bunfight, I'm just really surprised by the lack of election material. Should add we've had the usual maildrops from all the usual suspects, and yesterday I had my first ever visit from a canvasser in 21 years of living here.

Treaclepie19 · 29/11/2019 13:03

It's a sea of blue round my area. Ruining the beautiful fields.
Only a recent thing though. It's like they forgot.

FthisS · 29/11/2019 13:26

I've seen a few houses in my town with posters. I have labour posters in every window, I'm also a canvasser, last general I was out until the polling stations closed offering lifts to people who we had identified as labour.

wheresmymojo · 29/11/2019 13:26

Nothing around me at all. I think people don't want to share who they're voting for and risk spoiling pleasant civil interactions with neighbours.

orangeteal · 29/11/2019 13:29

That's very true, I've not seen a single one in my village or the city I work. A couple tossers used to have Brexit party stuff up but not anymore, we're a blue seat though so no candidate or I suspect we'd see light blue everywhere Hmm

leghairdontcare · 29/11/2019 13:33

I campaign for my party locally and have been delivering posters to those who request it. Quite a few people have but in general less than usual as it's been a short lead up to the election and people are very busy at this time of year. I don't think it's apathy.

longwayoff · 29/11/2019 14:17

You're right, I've only seen one, LibDem in a councillor's window. Where are all the blues? Red wouldn't feature here.

NameChangeNugget · 29/11/2019 14:45

Sea of blue around here. Herts/Essex borders

Velveteenfruitbowl · 29/11/2019 14:47

I’ve seen five Lib Dem banners on one person’s fence (presumably they are running/know the person running well enough to care). Nothing else at all. No one coming to the door. No one on the high street. No posters or leaflets. It’s great!

Getitwright · 29/11/2019 14:49

Our dog is loving all the flyers through the letterbox. He eats them all, then they re appear still full of poop. I did take a particular one off him though.....too toxic to risk!Grin

AngelicInnocent · 29/11/2019 14:55

I think this particular election is too toxic and people are worried about identifying publicly with any specific party for fear of trouble from people who disagree with them.

yolofish · 02/12/2019 18:14

I'm just bumping this because there is discussion on other threads about level of public 'promotion' for want of another word. Still literally nothing round here, even though my constituency has been true blue for ever, and voted Leave.

I leafletted more than 500 houses last week and only saw five election-related posters in windows. Three Labour, a Lib Dem and a Green (London).
I think people are afraid of pissing off their neighbours, getting a brick through the window or finding themselves forced into awkward conversations with passers by. At least, that's my motivation for not putting one in mine.
I have also noticed that almost no-one of my friends and colleagues wants to discuss the election in any shape or form, even in a carefully neutral way.
This is NOT a good sign for British democracy.

megletthesecond · 02/12/2019 18:25

Now you mention it, nothing around here either.

We saw lots in Devon last week.

ReadtheSmallPrint · 02/12/2019 18:32

No posters in windows round here.

In 2017 a number of my FB friends were very vocally sharing ‘vote Labour’ posts. Now nothing. One is voting Lib Dem. Even the vocal Leavers aren’t posting anything.

Saw a couple of adverts in fields on the M40 - different shades of blue.

Redshoeblueshoe · 02/12/2019 18:36

Only one leaflet here, delivered by the postman.
No canvassers. I think they are too scared because everyone is totally pissed off with ALL politicians.
Until the weekend I had only seen one poster, a few more have appeared, but nothing like there used to be

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/12/2019 18:38

Labour stronghold area. Absolutely nothing around here no posters on windows or boards up

There was quite a lot last time Momentum had taken over local politics that’s probably why they are a bit quieter now

Labour headquarters have their banners out but that’s it

Not on social media. Lots of chats about it at work

SquirmOfEels · 02/12/2019 18:39

Londoner

And I agree, fewer posters on houses

Perhaps people will put them up with their Christmas decorations? A kind of festive pimp my propaganda?

marvellousnightforamooncup · 02/12/2019 18:41

None round here of any colour.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/12/2019 18:41

I am in London

Sickofrain · 02/12/2019 18:41

Tory/ Lib Dem marginal here. Usually quite vociferous. Think I've seen 3 Con posters, 4 Lib Dem and 2 Lab. odd.

Venger · 02/12/2019 18:43

Northumberland and a fair few Labour posters in windows around the neighbouring streets. Our MP (Labour) knocked on my door last week and from her FB feed she seems to be getting around a fair but of the local area, she asked what is the one single most important thing - in my opinion - that she could do for me and my family with regard to the local area. Had a canvasser on behalf of the Conservative candidate knock too. I didn't realise he was a canvasser and thought he was the actual candidate, he said no in a very jolly way, candidate is far too busy to knock himself hahaha. Told him we were voting Labour.

Venger · 02/12/2019 18:44

We're a Laboir safe seat.

SunnySomer · 02/12/2019 18:44

Very little round me. I have previously leafletted for a party but this year said I didn’t want to - partly for work reasons but also because the party in question keeps saying stupid stuff I don’t agree with - and the candidate seemed utterly unsurprised as though he’s had that response across the board.
No one talks about it even.

TheincredibleBookEatingManchot · 02/12/2019 18:44

There are loads of Labour posters and boards around me.

I've seen one Green as well.

feellikeanalien · 02/12/2019 18:45

Nothing round here except for one Tory banner in a field beside the main road which you would only be able to see properly if you were in a bus or a lorry. It is a very rural farming area though so I suppose you could see it from a tractor!😁
