So many posts about council housing and 'benefit scroungers' getting 'free' housing.
I pay £150 a week for this...

What

dontalltalkatonce · 28/11/2019 22:54

Oh, yeah, they never have showers.

Singlenotsingle · 28/11/2019 22:54

Can't you do any repairs/decorating yourself?

gobbynorthernbird · 28/11/2019 22:55

My council flat has a shower @dontalltalkatonce

DustyMaiden · 28/11/2019 22:55

Apparently we should blast the heating and open windows to combat the mould....

Posted too early. I grew up in council properties. They were never like this. Ours were also neat tidy clean and well looked after probably because my parents looked after them well.

ConfessionsOfTeenageDramaQueen · 28/11/2019 22:57

7 of you?

HairyFloppins · 28/11/2019 22:57

Can't you contact the council?. Disgusting if they won't sort it out.

My MIL lives in a council house they are so efficient at sorting out any bother or maintenance issues.

PickAChew · 28/11/2019 22:57

Some of that is pretty shoddy but my windows end up just as manky if I don't keep on top of the condensation.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 28/11/2019 22:58

My house has similar things. I have a mortgage, but regardless, I would just clean it and have what needed repairing cosmetically - repaired.

My first house as a teenage mum age 17 was a council house. It was a dump when I got it. But I made it the best I could. People always expressed their surprise at how nice it was inside when they visited. I paid £100 a week, 17 years ago.

Cheeringmeup · 28/11/2019 22:58

I think cleaning and decoration are the tenant’s responsibility really. Not great if that’s what you moved into, but “over to you “ now.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 28/11/2019 22:59

Just you do need to put heating on and air the house otherwise you will get mould. Smile

Feelslikehome · 28/11/2019 22:59

Admittedly my eyesight is awful but the window looks like it just needs a wipe to me. My windows end up like that if I don't wipe them for a while (not that I don't) but when I moved into my property all the windows were like that and once I gave them a wipe it was fine. Theirs no excuse for you to not have hot water/heating though so I would speak to your landlord about that.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 28/11/2019 23:00

Yes you should lifegoeson. My house gets black mold because we dry things on radiators, and don't open the windows enough. Completely my fault. When I am on top of it, especially in summer, we don't get too many problems. HG mold remover is brilliant for cleaning it up fyi.

MadameJosephine · 28/11/2019 23:00

I also grew up in council houses, my parents at still live in a lovely little council bungalow. Basic maintenance and decorating are still up to the tenants though. A couple of your photos just look like it needs a good clean and a lick of paint

AllergicToAMop · 28/11/2019 23:01

Apparently we should blast the heating and open windows to combat the mould....

Well, yeah. Heat and air, heat and air.

forkfun · 28/11/2019 23:01

Terrible. Looks like the council house one of my friends is in. I cannot believe people get put into this substandard accommodation. We live in a wealthy country! Why can't everyone have a warm, clean home, without broken windows and mould? It's wrong.
