AIBU to wonder how you clean your skirting boards?

Why do we have them, if I built a new house I certainly wouldn't have any.

I'd guess they look tidier? It must be hard to get the plaster perfect down to floor level or have it with no gaps if you have plasterboard, and putting up wallpaper would be awkward, you'd probably have to take up your carpet.

I mop mine very occasionally.

I noticed a few days ago my lightshades are really dusty , I tried vac'ing them but they won't keep still .
Has anyone got any tips that don't involve me having to drag the ladders out ?

managedmis · 28/11/2019 00:09

They are awful

RollOnNextYear · 28/11/2019 00:14

Hoover and then antibac wipe occasionally. Just moved and they all need re glossing as the paint is awful so not that fussed atm. Once their done ill be more on the ball like I used to be

@Streamside & @LightsInOtherPeoplesHouses

I may be wrong but I think is because if the plaster went right down to the floor it's more likely to get affected by rising damp so the gap at the bottom provides a barrier.
Hence older houses that are more prone to damp have larger / deeper skirting boards .
I could be barking up the wrong tree tho Confused

We don't have any!

MerryGrinchmas1 · 28/11/2019 00:21

Once clean, wipe with a tumble dryer sheet. Seems to stop the dust sticking to them so much!

@SuzieSunshine - Victoria Wood sketch. :)

When I mop the kitchen floor, not often though, I use the well-wringed out mop to go round the skirting boards in all the rooms, it doesn't wet the carpet if you're careful. Ditto the upstairs when the bathroom floors are done. I also stick the mop under the radiators, living in a very dry area, not today though, there's always loads of dust under there, think hammer house of horrors.

mbosnz · 28/11/2019 14:19

I wipe them down with a hot damp cloth with multi-surface cleaner each week.

WaggleWiggle · 28/11/2019 14:20

Mr Sheen fluffy duster because I can’t even be arsed to bend down.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/11/2019 14:23

One of those magic sponges cleans all woodwork, light switches etc, might even take dust off a light shade.

I use one until it is filthy then use it to clean the loo!

I use lots of things until they are on their last legs and then use them to clean the loo.
