....when you buy a sandwich in a shop you are getting the halves of two different sandwiches because they are made, put in a pile and sliced in half. I eat my two halves and somebody else is eating the other two halves.

I need to get a life don't i?

What silly things have you never realised?

Lunafortheloveogod dairy farmer: well all the milk is put into the churn then the tanker will come throughout the week to pick it up.he will have been to other farms and depending n how many pick up depending on area then depends on how much capacity his lorry takes.obviously not too much so they can keep going back and forth to keep things fresh.
many now have their own shops on site now though.and in the farm shop we have our own milk pastured and coming from only our cows.and obviously in our tea and personal usage we know we only have our cows as we just take the jug out to the churn when we need it.
also some now go into cheeses.for example wyke famr cheeses, butters etc you may see in sainburys and asda etc will only come from farmers under their brands if that makes sense.

grins · 28/11/2019 17:22

It’s always somewhat disturbed me that my 4 pints of semi-skimmed milk has come from multiple different cows, and it’s all just mixed up together.

You are drinking the secretion of the mammary glands of another species and you worry that it comes from more than one of them??

theoriginalmadambee · 28/11/2019 20:05

How many farms/cows do you think go to fill these Smile.

This is my dream cow, sadly not reputed for its milk, but who cares?

I never realised until this summer that squirrels make squawking noises like birds.

I knew about the milk. I didn't know about the sandwiches though, but to be honest, if they're not filled to the crusts or the crusts are dry then I only eat the insides. I know, I'll never have curly hair. Grin

theoriginalmadambee · 28/11/2019 20:17

@TwatCat not uk here, are you told you get curly hair if you eat the crust? What about pizza crust? No wonder my hair is straight Grin.

TwatCat · 28/11/2019 20:23

@Madambee just sandwich crusts. We were always told as kids to eat our crusts to get curly hair. The boys were told to eat all their dinners to put hairs on their chests. Confused

TwatCat · 28/11/2019 20:26

Another thing I didn't realise until this year was that the twit-twoo sound of an owl is from two birds. The "twit" is from the female and the "twoo" is the male calling back to her.

ActualHornist · 28/11/2019 20:29

I don't know if I'm misunderstanding you, but the egg sandwich and the one after it (might have been chicken?) the egg ones the machine was matching up the two sides and the next one the dudes were? So it's the same sandwich?

Do you just mean the bread is from different loaves?

HowDoYouLikeThoseSuedeApples · 28/11/2019 23:45

@ActualHornist 2.39 mins the cheese and ham ones the stacks go into a pack : which is one half of 2 stacked sarnies.

SunnyHens · 28/11/2019 23:56

I’m weirded out by seeing chicken breasts for sale in the chilled aisles - and realising they are not from the same chicken. Surely you’d want to eat a matching pair from the same bird?

Catkin8 · 29/11/2019 00:17

@Pukkatea Sorry if I'm being dense, but I really don't understand what you mean about bottom halves of a sandwich? Blush

Amanduh · 29/11/2019 00:26

Well some might be but in that video near the end, they are all going in with their corresponding halves correctly!? Also just checked my sandwich - its a top crust half and a bottom crust half so they can’t be from the same half of the pile!

Fabellini · 29/11/2019 00:27

Don’t worry - I have prepared a diagram...

to have only just found out that....
YoungHun · 29/11/2019 00:30

Ah thanks I didn't understand about the top and bottom either! Great diagram :)

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/11/2019 00:38

Has this thread been nominated for classics yet ? Or have I just had too much to drink ?

feelinghelplesstoday · 29/11/2019 00:42

@OopsISnappedAndFarted goody safety professional here. Believe it or not hands are more hygienic than gloves. The production operative will have regular breaks to wash and sanitise hands.
Yes it's true all mass produced sandwiches are never matching halves

feelinghelplesstoday · 29/11/2019 00:48

The pigs in blankets that are on sale for Christmas were made starting around June time

Louise91417 · 29/11/2019 00:49

Is that true about the owls? Seriously did not no thatHmm

BobLobLawLLB · 29/11/2019 00:57

Just the fact that it is cow's milk is weird enough. Then add the fact it belonged to a mother who should have given it to her calf?, who instead is taken away and killed prematurely. Its too much information to digest over a morning cuppa!

theoriginalmadambee · 29/11/2019 01:02

@Louise91417
Oh yeah our owls start around 2 at night, what sounds just outside the bedroom window. It goes uhhh??? and milliseconds later is answered from the wood next to our house by hooohh!!! very very entusiastically believe me. This is late spring/early summer, hook up chat perhaps BlushGrin.

OopsISnappedAndFarted · 29/11/2019 12:23

You definitely learn something new every day! Thanks ladies

spacepyramid · 29/11/2019 12:44

The dawn choris round here starts about 1am-2am but only in the spring and summer - there isn't one at all by October.

no, no nomination for classics AFAIK but feel free to ask

KnightandDay · 29/11/2019 13:12

OMG this never occurred to me, but it makes so much sense!!
Thanks spacepyramid for the education 😊🥪

theoriginalmadambee · 29/11/2019 14:45

Re. The dawn chorus, i imagine the first overly eager one starting 'hello...good morning??' And the rest are shouting shut up, shut up, shut up!

I may sometimes be a little annoyed with them Grin.

theoriginalmadambee · 29/11/2019 14:53

Btw did you know that when foxes mate, they scream which sound like a woman being murdered? It is chilling, when we first moved in, we were scared stiff.
