I’ll let you know when I’ve finished my nap.

I'm a dog lover and currently only have a dog but I did have two cats and they were full of personality. One of them, a feral rescue kitten, lived to be 22 and ruled the roost. She and the dog I had at the time used to gang up on the other cat, I'm sure they communicated. She used to sit on the wall outside my house and I used to see random people stop and talk to her, she made such conversation type noises at them they couldn't resist.

MontStMichel · 29/11/2019 13:08

and has been known to try and get on my lap while I’m on the toilet

My cat doesn’t try; she succeeds. After I screamed, the first time she anchored herself by digging all her claws into my bare thighs, she is very careful to keep her claws in and just balances on her paws!

MotherHeggy · 29/11/2019 13:12

No.

I have two cats who have personalities bigger than their bodies!

Cats are brilliant - except when they sit on your head in bed at night, purring louder than a train! Much rather have a cat than a dog.

SerenDippitty · 29/11/2019 13:20

We’ve had two jack russells. One was an introvert with a will of iron and the other was an easy going extrovert. The introvert one, if you had the nerve to sit down on a bench while walking her, would come over and glare as though saying “just what the hell do you think you’re doing, this is a WALK!” The extrovert would jump up and sit beside you looking down at all the passing dogs.

bruffin · 29/11/2019 13:22

Dogs are toddlers
Cats are teenagers

MaryBerrysChutney · 29/11/2019 13:23

You're right, OP.

TabbyMumz · 29/11/2019 13:27

Nope. My cat has the best personality ever. He has such fantastic facial expressions, you can tell what mood he is in all the time. Cats are cleverer than dogs.

isseywith4vampirecats · 29/11/2019 13:34

my four cats all have different personalities from the over needy mommy love me cos i dont have much between the ears siamese cross to the tortie who talks to me is far too clever for her own good and when next doors small dogs are yapping their heads off for no reason im glad i dont have dogs any more, my cairn terrier years ago had bags of personality so no dogs dont have more personality just different to cats, dogs have owners cats have servants

Logjam · 29/11/2019 13:38

My dog behaves like a cat!

Logjam · 29/11/2019 13:39

Cats are cleverer than dogs I think the opposite...they are more generally more independent/less affectionate for sure - doesn't make them smarter.

cava14una · 29/11/2019 13:40

Spice says she has loads of personality

You're all wrong.
Try my budgies.
We have: The two old men, who eat and sleep. One of them is always asking for more food if he thinks there isn't enough. The other you can almost see him rolling his eyes and saying "there's plenty". They're both puffed up with their heads under their wing after lunch.
The girl: In charge. She's very quiet, says very little, but if the others try to stop her getting what she wants they'll flee at her just walking towards them. She also is the most agile and can be found climbing over places the others have given up getting. If she comes out, she just makes her way to the top of the cage and watches. She's standing at the moment on the top of the swing and watching the others.
The boys:
#1: The chewer. Likes to try and chew everything. Chatty in the morning especially and likes to be handled. Will climb onto your hand on demand and sit on you. Likes to be with others, but preferably a little higher than them. Has gone on the highest swing to have a doze, but her tail is within reach of...
#2: The mischief. Can't manage to get on a swing easily and normally ends up hopping round with one foot on and the other off. Always chatting, getting stuck in places upside down. Will pull the others' tails and run away. The most likely to object if any of the others come to share the food dish. The most likely to run away if the others stand their ground. Grin When he comes out he flies round and round and explores the bookshelf.
Also loved the mirror to a point we took it away as all he wanted to do was talk in the mirror. Is currently banging a bell and shouting at it between nibbling #1's tail.

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats.

The dogs live in the house.

The cats own and rule over the house.

CantstandmLMs · 29/11/2019 13:58

came her for evidence of cat personalities and wasn't disappointed.

I LOVE dogs but you just have to love the "don't give a f" attitude of cats. One of mine is obsessed with straws. Won't play with toys but if there's a straw (now re-usable ones obvz) he will try and be sly get behind you and swipe it! My other loves batting toys around and she HAS to sit on my chest for 15 mins before she beds down for the night.

dreichthanksgiving · 29/11/2019 14:26

Goodness no.
Our dog is good natured but very dim.
Our cat runs rings round him and sits on him when he wants to warm up.
DH says dogs are too daft for him to want in his house and our first will be our last.

rattusrattus20 · 29/11/2019 14:48

dogs are far cleverer than cats. i say this as someone who's always had cats & would never want a dog.

i don't particularly approve of having dogs as pets unless you've got loads of time to spend with them, they're relatively needy.

Logjam · 29/11/2019 15:17

Clever dogs are annoying and amusing to live with - they figure out how to get everything they want through a variety of means.

AryaStarkWolf · 29/11/2019 15:21

Both have personalities. How could they not. Cats can be hilarious, mine almost talks to me, he has different meows to show different emotions and requests :p My dogs personality is just feed me/leave me outside/rub me..that's it

NameChangeNugget · 29/11/2019 15:23

Cats are a bit shit

Toddlerteaplease · 29/11/2019 15:23

My cat cheddar has a huge personality. We have full on conversations and she asked to be picked up.

Logjam · 29/11/2019 15:28

msmith501 · 29/11/2019 15:28

My dog didn't understand the post and my cat is still laughing quietly to herself (she's a tortie and naturally disposed to derision). She had a much larger character....

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 29/11/2019 15:33

My older kitten gives you his nose to kiss if you ask him, younger one puts his paws up to stop the kisses 🤣

Ones a bit stupid and always getting into mischief . The other looks at him in disdain

AryaStarkWolf · 29/11/2019 15:33

When I tell my cat to get off the counter or something like that he makes a noise that sounds like an annoyed "aw"
