To ask where people buy clothes??

I'm not sure if I'm being unreasonable or looking in the wrong places but I cannot find any nice work clothes.

I have a job where I'm expected to look smart casual/semiformal but clothes get ruined easily and I need to be able to move. I tend to wear black jeans and button shirts, or leggings and a dress/long flowy button up shirt. Usually with black trainers due to my role.

A lot of my current shirts are starting to look a bit tatty but I just cannot find anything I like! I dont want to spend a fortune as they will probably get ruined sooner or later. When I look online all I can find is 'night out' tops or plain boring school style button ups.

Where do people buy reasonably priced clothes that are smart but have a bit of personality?
I'm not overly trendy but I'm only mid twenties so want to avoid frumpy!

I'm a bit overweight so that affects my choices but I'd go with:
Whistles
Cos
Jigsaw
Toast

Lately... Amazon and Torrid. I am plus sized and hate clothes shopping, but torrid always has nice stuff to suit bigger sizes and amazon is just so damn convenient.

Preggosaurus9 · 26/11/2019 22:02

H and M have workwear section in larger stores. Includes basic shirts and fancier shirts if you like.

GrumpyHoonMain · 26/11/2019 22:11

H&M
New Look
Debenhams (Red Herring is pretty good)
Topshop for jeans

Elowyn · 26/11/2019 22:13

Hobbs
Jaeger
Reiss

fairydustandpixies · 26/11/2019 22:18

Charity shops.

BackforGood · 26/11/2019 22:21

Charity shops

Commonreader · 26/11/2019 22:26

Agree with charity shops. I find I'm a bit more adventurous as I'm not going to waste too much money if I have second thoughts about something a bit different. I've found some brilliant clothes and whatever doesn't quite work goes straight back.

OopsISnappedAndFarted · 26/11/2019 22:27

Love boohoo and Sainsbury’s @Elowyn hardly reasonably priced choices there 🤔

endoflevelbaddy · 26/11/2019 22:30

I found loads of stuff in Zara last week. Was in a big one in Edinburgh and got a variety of smart / casual work appropriate tops, tried on armfuls of stuff expecting to put half back and I liked it all.

Usually go for H&M, Oasis, Warehouse & Debenhams. All Saints occasionally (like to keep an eye on their outlet section for bargains & sale usually good - 30% off at min)

Craftycorvid · 26/11/2019 22:31

Chazzas and eBay. Labels you might like, OP: Oska, Rundholz, Out of Xile, Crea Concept - expensive European labels that do really interesting but practical styles (and crop up on eBay a lot). Chazzas for the bits and bobs you wouldn’t spend a lot on but which add a bit of edge to an outfit.

HundredMilesAnHour · 26/11/2019 22:34

I've bought most of my recent work clothes from Palones. They're great if you're tall (but I imagine their clothes will swamp most short people or at least need a lot of hems taking up!). They're on trend and very well made, but that comes at a cost of course. They're doing a 30% discount at the moment though. Smile

HelloDoris · 26/11/2019 22:37

Sainsburys seem to be my go to for clothes currently, or if I'm in the mood a rummage through TK Maxx.

I also love charity shopping but that takes a bit more time and effort, plus lots round by me seem to sell tops for more then they were originally sold for.

johnlennonsglasses · 26/11/2019 22:41

Don't go past H&M for work clothes. Cheap and the wash really well also.
I like boo hoo. But they can be hit and miss so check the reviews first

nohateplease · 26/11/2019 22:41

Hush
ASOS
Debenhams
Mint Velvet
John Lewis

I tend to spend more on things so they last. I’ve tried Primark/H&M but it just doesn’t.

Legoandloldolls · 26/11/2019 22:45

I miss read your title first as "why do people buy clothes" because I look hideous naked in public...

Eyesight challenges aside, I have bought workwear from.Sainsburys in the sales very cheaply. Asda clothes are better quality.

I also know a few brands that fit and suit me like Wallis and buy them second hand on Ebay. So if you know a shop that you love and is a reliable fit then Ebay can really pad out your wardrobe with more expensive items but you are ok with wear and tear

Legoandloldolls · 26/11/2019 22:47

By wear and tear I mean you dont mind the risk of ruining a £65 dress when it only cost you ,£5 on ebay

AntiHop · 26/11/2019 22:49

I buy most of my clothes in debenhams. They have an excellent range of clothes.

fancytiles · 26/11/2019 22:50

High street brands I go for are Cos, Whistles, Zara

For the odd treat I would look at DVF, Vince, Theory. All are on net-a-porter and do next day delivery.

ShinyGiratina · 26/11/2019 22:52

Sainsbury's!

ParkheadParadise · 26/11/2019 22:53

Top shop

theEnglishInPatient · 26/11/2019 23:00

Any high street shop, I have a look online first then only go to try on the clothes I have earmarked. I couldn't be arsed to rummage in charity shops in the off chance I'd find something.

I even get a lot of stuff from Primark - bit of a hit and miss on how long they last, but it's so cheap, you feel really smug leaving with huge bags having spent next to nothing. I spend the difference on shoes.

I stick to one shopping centre and am done very quickly

noworklifebalance · 26/11/2019 23:05

H&M
Oasis
Sainsburys

Mopmum35 · 26/11/2019 23:12

Asda

raspberryk · 26/11/2019 23:19

Primark and h&m for me. Laughing at some peoples ideas of not expensive.
