Friend always kisses DH on the lips. Is this weird?

DH and myself are in a group of friends who meet up often and there are the old hugs and kisses. This female friend of mine, who is single, always kisses my DH on the lips, and occasionally does the same to me. I don't much like being kissed on the lips and DH is not all that keen. They spend time together in the group, as I do with others, its a mixed group and no one is worried about who their partner is talking to, its all very relaxed. Is this kissing thing weird?

My parents both did this despite not being touchy feely types. It's a working class thing. M

GooseFeather · 26/11/2019 20:08

DH's dad (not a typo!) kisses him on the lips. I do find that very odd.

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 26/11/2019 20:13

It's unusual. I think I would say '''oh! stop spreading cold sores with all your bourgeois free love there, I'm an accountant''. Make a joke of it. But like most jokes, there's real sentiment behind them

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 26/11/2019 20:15

Is he fanciable? Be really honest with yourself! You don't have to answer !!

I don't think I fancy any of my friends' husbands! Not a single one is fanciable Shock

Thank you for that suggestion. Something along those lines would nip it in the bud, without causing bad feeling.

Lip kissing is Not On. Unless you're in a snogging relationship with the other person. DP and I don't snog one another hello or goodbye, but we greet one another with a peck on the lips. This privilege is reserved for us alone. We are very, very posh, FWIW (which might not be much), and lip kissing is definitely not normal in our circles.

XH used to try to kiss the DC on the lips. They learnt to swerve pretty quickly.

Well, it's hard to be objective about your own bloke. He is very tall, keeps madly fit and is kind and personable. I fancy him, I just don't expect other people to.

my parents still try to kiss me on the lips now, and I hate it.
I kiss my small children on the lips, but will cease as they get older.
dh has never wanted to do it.
I am sure it is normal with some people - im not sure it is class based - we are middle class although my parents aspire for higher. but if you dont like it please make it go away! :)

spongedog · 26/11/2019 20:24

One of my best male friends does this. I cant bear it and often try to swerve. Known him over 30 years and love him to bits but not that. Reading this thread I do now wonder what my-husband made of it - they always shook hands! My friend is gay and happily married - his husband I do the continental kiss on each cheek. Suits both of us!

mclover · 26/11/2019 20:26

Weird. I'm European and we give friends many kisses on the cheeks but never the lips, would be a scandal!

Drum2018 · 26/11/2019 20:29

It is odd but there is one person who always kisses me on the lips - a peck not a full on snog, might I clarify. He's older and a friend of ours. His wife would kiss Dh on the lips. Strangely enough I would be totally freaked out if any other man did it but with this guy and his wife it's somehow acceptable Grin

Sksksksk · 26/11/2019 20:30

Eeek. No. It’s weird. I’m with mclover and of the European many cheek kisses but the only person I kiss on the lips is DP. I don’t kiss my adult children on the lips or my DGC either let alone friends or friends DPs. It seems inappropriate.

YikesCrikey · 26/11/2019 20:30

We used to know a couple and the guy always kissed any female friends on the lips. I hated it and after the first couple of times always tried to swerve.

My DH and I used to discuss it and agreed it was very odd. How he could not realise it made women feel uncomfortable I don't know. Really normal, nice, non-creepy guy. An accountant as it happened.

SmileEachDay · 26/11/2019 20:33

Definitely British, but also common as muck

I’m surprised she wants to kiss you at all.

BumbleBeee69 · 26/11/2019 20:33

So... the questions is.... what are you or your DH going to do about it.. ? it's clearly making your DH feel very uncomfortable.. and that's not good. Flowers

Waterandlemonjuice · 26/11/2019 20:33

It’s completely weird and I’d be pissed off if anyone tried to kiss me or dh on the lips, ever.

BennyTheBall · 26/11/2019 20:35

Really weird.

I only kiss my dh on the lips.

Elieza · 26/11/2019 20:35

I’d pull the ‘we best air kiss as I’m coming down with a cold sore’ routine.

Either you or him first it doesn’t matter who she walks up to first.

And the other one of you does the same thing ‘i think I’m catching partner’s cold sore too’ Airkiss.

Job done. You can’t see anything of a cold sore when it’s at the tingling stage so no evidence is required.

She’ll prob think twice if you play it that way a couple of times and only air it cheek kiss in future. Just say your run down. No offence caused. No explanation required.

PlasticPatty · 26/11/2019 20:36

People will fancy him, that's life, but there is no way they should be kissing him on the lips. Or you. It reminds me of Jarvis 'I've kissed your mother twice and now I'm working on your dad'.

cacklingmags · 26/11/2019 20:38

Well it would be sad if my kissy friend is after my DH, we are long married and really not swingers. But maybe some people think its OK to go after someone else's bloke. Many years ago, a very old friend asked me if she could sleep with my DH - She didn't ask him. I had to tell her to fuck right off.

My (gay male American) friend does this - tries to anyway - to both me and DH frequently drink is involved.

It seems like it would be easy to swerve but, since no one who isn't my OH has tried to do this since I stopped kissing my parents on the lips as a littley, it continues to take me by surprise even after all these years. I don't think he usually manages to actually land one though, I do take action and DH deffo gets out of it.

Made me laugh out loud.

"...since no one who isn't my OH" - I should say no one else besides kissy friend.

Eeeeeew!! YADDDDNBU!
