To say 9.40pm is too late for week night cinema

This so petty but its annoyed me. Me and my partner were talking just now about going to the cinema this evening (we have limitless passes) I said well xx film is on at stupid times so let's see y film. He said well what are stupid times?

The times are 4.30pm so before we finish work and 9.40pm. He said he'd looked and though they were all OK times. Then was just a bit of an awkward dick about it. AIBU to think 9.40pm is clearly too fucking late to see a film. Bearing in mind I start work at 8 am and have an hour commute. I'd also just said this morning that I'm feeling really knackered lately and wonder if some medication I'm on needs tweaking. I have various health issues none massively serious. The film probably wouldn't get out till 11.30 at the earliest, then we'd have to drive home.

I'm aware this is probably a non issue I just really hate it when he obviously doesn't think things through and then does that awkward I have no idea why this wouldn't work thing! I feel like it's something men do when you point out their stupidly.

Sorry rant over.

Question for people who set their alarm for 30 mins befor you need to leave. Do you shower, wash hair, dry hair and do make up (v light) in addition to getting dressed and eating/drinking?

DD does. I used to. We can't dry our hair much before leaving but if it is fine it will dry in the hour commute anyway.

BarbedBloom · 26/11/2019 16:06

It would be late for me, but not everyone works the standard 9-5 so I think it is good to have a range of showings. The problem here is 4.30 or 9.40 wouldn't work for many people really

Comefromaway · 26/11/2019 16:09

Yes I shower and wash & blow dry my hair.

8am Alarm goes off. Go downstairs and put kettle on. Make tea.
8.05am - Leave tea to cool. Shower wash hair.
8.10am. Out of shower. Get dressed. (clothes are laid out the night before)
8.15am Dry Hair.
8.25am Drink tea.
8.30am Put dog in kitchen and leave house.

For me it's okay. My friends and I usually go around 22.30. Still a solid 4-5 hours of sleep. If you're not up to it, that's obviously also okay - doesn't make sense if you're going to be knackered for the rest of the week.

MsChatterbox · 26/11/2019 16:45

If I was in that showing I would be sleeping through it.

LemonPrism · 26/11/2019 18:25

Not everyone works early or on weekdays so presumably the late showings are for people like me who sometimes start work at 3pm

LemonPrism · 26/11/2019 18:26

I don't even finish work until 11 on those days

Aragog · 26/11/2019 18:31

Way too late on a week night for me. Id be tired the next day. Tiredness and several young children to teach don't really mix well in my experience.

No way could I do an effective days work on just 4, 5 or 6 hours sleep.
It would also be a waste of time going to see it too if I went to a late showing after a busy day at work - i'd be nodding throughout and not properly focused on what was happening.

I'd just go on another night, when not working the next day or go and see something else.

Aragog · 26/11/2019 18:34

I just don't think a cinema night is worth a late night - there's always another time to see it.

Concert, theatre showing, that kind of think where it is more of a 'only time to get to see it' is different.

blackteasplease · 26/11/2019 18:37

It depends on the person but looking at your working hours I can see why you find it too late. I don’t think it helps to call it ridiculous or assume everyone’s feels the same. If I didn’t have the school run before work id go st that time.

DaphneFanshaw · 26/11/2019 18:42

I start at 8 too and am up at a similar time.
I need time to wake up with a cup of coffee and peace and quiet before getting the dc ready.
I would be fine going to a later showing at the cinema as a one off though.
I've been to see bands and shoes and got home at around 12.
It's only one night and U compensate the next night by going to bed a bit earlier.

bigchris · 26/11/2019 18:43

@09Comefromaway no makeup??

mrsbyers · 26/11/2019 18:50

Plenty of people work different shifts to the 9/5 so might cater to them

Comefromaway · 26/11/2019 18:51

Bit of lipstick if I remember.

CottonSock · 26/11/2019 18:52

I'd be asleep. Too late for me on a week night or weekend. Plus you need to wind down at home afterwards usually.

hammeringinmyhead · 26/11/2019 18:57

I go at this time quite often using my Limitless card. The baby is asleep and it's lovely and quiet. I take a flask of coffee in with me. The following morning, if I'm working, I have a quick shower, tie my hair back and eat breakfast at work.

Yetanotherwinter · 26/11/2019 19:03

There’s no day of the week that I’d go to the cinema at that time! It’s way too late for me.

GrumpyHoonMain · 26/11/2019 19:05

I’m up at 5am due to my commute and it would be fine for me. Before I got pregnant I rarely slept before midnight anyway

24hourshomeedderandcarer · 26/11/2019 19:06

depends on the house hold

we have ticked for a 10pm showing tonight to see frozen 2

2 adults a 15 and 9 y old but neither sleep and are home educated so dont have to get up early

we go this time or day times as its empty as youngest cant tolerate many in a cinema

we are 99 % day times when everyone is in school but frozen has been very popular so even the day times are too full for him so we have to do the last showing

Far2go46 · 26/11/2019 19:08

Get a grip

Scotinthenorth · 26/11/2019 19:18

You’re being way over the top.

ForalltheSaints · 26/11/2019 19:36

Not a time I would go.

Josephinebettany · 26/11/2019 20:28

It'd be way too late for me! I wouldn't even want to go at that time at the wknd.
On a side note I saw a post in this thread by @BarbourellaTheCoatzilla. Are you the same OP that started the coatzilla thread and never updated? Did I miss an update? Or did you just name yourself after it?

Purplecatshopaholic · 26/11/2019 21:24

Too late for me on a week night defo. Ok at weekend, probably have dinner out first, then film, then a late drink before home
