From now until Xmas day?

I just feel like itll take the shine off the roast on the day if we still have them every week.
Does anyone else do this?
Dh and ds were like Shock when I told them. They love a sunday dinner.

We don't do roasts often at all, it does mean when we do them they feel special.

DD loves a roast though so probably should do them more often Grin

Pipandmum · 25/11/2019 23:11

Don't see why it would take the shine off. Roast dinner is nice but nothing like the effort and variety that goes into Christmas dinner. For a normal Sunday lunch I don't eat turkey, cranberry sauce, bread sauce. Sweet potato and roast potato, stuffing, beans and parsnips and sprouts and carrots... and I certainly don't do it wearing a paper crown in my head ...
So don't worry, Christmas dinner will not be overshadowed by a regular roast dinner. However no reason why you have to be the one cooking it every week!

Skyrain · 25/11/2019 23:11

I do this every year! Makes it all the more special on Christmas Day. My family are fairly unimpressed too.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 25/11/2019 23:17

No! Love a roast, thing of beauty.

Christmas dinner is special anyway as we cook wearing Christmas hats, wearing a Christmas dress for me/ Santa jumper dh and we have allllllllll the pigs in blankets plus as much champagne as you cab drink ejen in charge if dc

Cherrysoup · 25/11/2019 23:23

YABU. See my what would you leave off the Christmas dinner thread. For me, a roast is an excuse to have lots of veg to fill up on, not so much the roast meat, but it’s my favourite way of getting veg in.

UserPop · 25/11/2019 23:24

We don't have roast dinners all that much, purely because of the effort that goes in and amount of dishes they create. I probably would stop them to make Christmas dinner all the more special... if we had them regularly

Lamentations · 25/11/2019 23:28

Roast dinner is my Death Row Meal but you've got me thinking...

Titsywoo · 25/11/2019 23:32

I'll keep doing them as it's the most veg my dc get in one meal all week! Won't do one on Sunday 22nd though.

EmmiJay · 25/11/2019 23:38

Same. I've banned all roastie chickeny, potatoey, yorkshirey goods from everyone's house (mum/sisters) until Christmas.😌

Inertia · 25/11/2019 23:43

We always stop roast dinners in December until Christmas Day.

salypre · 25/11/2019 23:57

I do this too !

MadamHattie · 26/11/2019 00:30

We had our last roast until Christmas on Sunday! I do this every year much to the childrens displeasure

f00k · 26/11/2019 00:49

Yes I do this. We had a roast last Sunday and I won't cook one again until Christmas Day. Makes me look forward to it even more.

HundredYearOldMan · 26/11/2019 00:53

I really want a roast now...

poppycity · 26/11/2019 02:12

Love a roast but I try not to have them for about a month before Christmas. We usually have 2 Christmas dinners over 2 days due to family gatherings and both feel special. This year I unintentionally stopped roasts in October. I'm desperate for one but am forcing myself to wait!

Bunney2020 · 26/11/2019 02:13

I’d eat a roast every day of the week if it was up to me Grin

BoomBoomsCousin · 26/11/2019 06:07

That sounds like the saddest possible way to make Christmas dinner special.

MarleneandBoycie · 26/11/2019 06:22

Do people really have a roast every Sunday? I have never actually met anyone that does that. I don’t even have one at Christmas (we do thanksgiving though, so I do get a turkey fix, but prefer something a bit different and more special at Xmas)

Drogonssmile · 26/11/2019 06:29

I did roast chicken with all the trimmings in Sunday and thought this is a bit too. Christmassy better stop now! So I agree with you OP Smile

DanielRicciardosSmile · 26/11/2019 06:33

My mum always did this when I was little, Sunday Roasts stopped for the four Sundays in Advent. Now it's pretty rare that I cook a roast dinner anyway.

LoudBatPerson · 26/11/2019 06:39

We do not have any roast dinners in December until Christmas Day.

I find it builds up the desire for a great big roast with all the trimmings and gives us more time on Sunday afternoons to do things/go places as a family.

Redcherries · 26/11/2019 06:51

You’ve just given me inspiration for how to get them all to move out when the time comes!

I can see your way of thinking though, if it would cause sadness in my house I would consider it but roast is quite a big family day here. Quite often at least 2 of us cook together sometimes we all get involved and I think we’d miss it even for a few weeks.

Redcherries · 26/11/2019 06:51

*wouldn't

bengalcat · 26/11/2019 06:54

We have a roast most Sundays - Christmas roast is usually more extravagant with trimmings and sauces but ‘the dustbin hound ‘ will still be hopefully lurking for treats

TheQueef · 26/11/2019 06:56

We still stop them for advent.
I make fish instead, was fish curry this week.
By the time the day comes the roast and boxing day reheat are a welcome change.
