AIBU to get DH nothing since he can’t think of one single thing he wants for Christmas?

He doesn’t have any hobbies apart from reading so I’ve bought him a couple of books. Other than that he says he’s fine.

The thing is he’s a thoughtful bastard when it comes to me although I am enormously more helpful with coming up with plenty of suggestions.

I’d look like an absolute arsehole if I didn’t get him anything.

Bloody man. Tsk.

Urgh my husband is the same, and if he does think of a suggestion he tells his bloody parents first!! Over the years I have done:

His favourite treats
Tickets to an exhibition, gig or show
Experiences - spy academy, racing cars, London eye etc
Photo book of holiday snaps
Booze
Bamboo utensils for the office
Swell stainless steel water bottle
Games and fancy playing cards
Swiss Army knife and wallet ninja
Travel stuff (he travels for work) - pillow, cable organiser, shirt folding thingee

UOkhun77 · 26/11/2019 11:33

Oh yes and sponsorships for his favourite animals through WWF and various other charity things.

I love books and my kindle; some really nice gifts for similar friends have been an Unbound or Audible membership. The latter might be really appreciated if he commutes? Private Eye sub is my birthday gift from my folks and very much appreciated!

BarbedBloom · 28/11/2019 21:36

There is a good thread on the christmas topic about gifts for men

bbyj2019 · 28/11/2019 22:02

You can actually buy a box of nothing

PhilCornwall1 · 28/11/2019 22:03

I really would be happy to have pretty much nothing. Aftershave would do and some T-shirt's. I would want anything else. I hate clutter and always end up getting a pointless present (aka shite) or two from one relative or another that I don't know what to do with and don't want to store. They end up at the charity shop.

Sorrywhat · 28/11/2019 22:23

I don’t understand how he’s the annoying one when it’s you who doesn’t want to think about what to get him. You say he’s thoughtful why aren’t you? Go around the shops and look, surely you will see some things he would appreciate.

CharityConundrum · 29/11/2019 00:52

I got my husband a picture of a soundwave. Mine was my son laughing, but you could choose anything and it comes with a QR code that they can scan it and listen to it too. You could pick the colour and background etc, so it was quite a nice-looking thing to have, but it's still really nice to think of what it represents.

Rombocious · 29/11/2019 03:10

It might be annoying at Xmas time but him not needed much to be happy is a great thing.

Some people piss away huge amounts of money for crap they barely use simply for the burst of "happiness" they get when they buy it.

Really hope I don't cause any offence with this suggestion but you could get some lingerie. You'd be wearing it but he'd be the one enjoying it (more).

Puta · 29/11/2019 03:15

A G-hold. Makes the kindle much more comfortable to hold. Would also recommend a sub for Slightly Foxed, or (better, actually) the LRB.

Beseen19 · 29/11/2019 03:32

I'm so like your husband. I'm very careless with things and hate the guilt of something that someone has bought be getting wasted. I prefer just not to have nice things. Any vouchers I would spend on the kids/housestuff. We have my graduation/Christmas/having another baby/my birthday within the space of 2 months and DH loves buying gifts. He made me write a list of 10 things which took me about 8 hours to do. Then he went mad as one of them was chocolate Grin.

AnnaMagnani · 29/11/2019 03:55

Both DH and I are the maddening ones in our relationship. If I want something, I want one specific thing and will buy it, not a gift buyer's guess at what I want.

And DH has taken to buying himself gifts, wrapping them up and labelling them from me. The only person surprised on Christmas day is me who has no idea what I've bought him Hmm

Socks can be quite a fulfillng gift although 5 years ago this would have pained me to say it. Warm socks, thick socks, summer socks, socks from ethical companies, you can get quite inspired if you really try have no other ideas at all

Same for pyjamas, loungewear, slippers, at item of clothing he has that you hate and would like to replace.

Alcohol and food. Have you been on holiday and drunk something/eaten something you liked? You can usually track this down online and relive a bit of your holiday in the dead of winter. DH is getting 6 bottles of wine from place we went on holiday to this year as long as I am reading the non-English website OK.

Finally DVDs - if he is a reader, is he a film watcher? What sort of things does he read? Are there associated films to go with it. DH will be delighted at some random set of obscure films that sadly I have to watch with him

LadyB49 · 29/11/2019 04:22

Thank you I have just ordered a kindle hand holder as recommended by a pp.
I have already ordered tickets for a comedian at our local theatre. This is so much my go to especially as dh has birthday almost at Christmas.

Will get a box of nice chocolates.

Aftershave....... Alas my Adonis is happy with Old Spice..... I kid you not.

Who are you seeing? Love watching a good comedian.

Saracen · 29/11/2019 06:59

Does he like food? That usually works for people who are hard to buy for.

My DP would go for really posh biscuits and/or cheese, a fillet steak, or pate.

nicky7654 · 29/11/2019 07:53

Same issue for me. Last year I got 'Help for Heroes' hoody and t-shirt with a Staffie on front as we have 2. This year have no idea so will probably end up getting a bloody drill lol

BrokenWing · 29/11/2019 08:18

This poster (which you can get framed) sized scratch card of 100 best books ever written looks 'fun', there are lots of styles if you google

Scratch poster with classic novels
