I think YABU. If it automatically gave the response 'Father Christmas isn't real' every time 'Father Christmas' was googled, you might have a point. But if they posted the question themselves, you can't expect a search engine to feed them lies. I am distrustful of Google myself, because they are not as careful of confidentiality as they could be, and in their 'knowlege graphs' sometimes reveal confidental information without getting permission. But if children are old enough to ask directly whether Father Christmas is real, they are old enough to be told the truth

I think posters are confusing google "the entire internet" and the google assistant who speaks to you on a google home/mini etc.

Agreed. @KenDodd - Google Mini is voice activated only. They ask it a question and it gives an answer. It DOES NOT just automatically read out the web page you get when you Google the same question - it uses Google Assistant to give a smart answer, like Siri on an Apple device. But you cannot just recreate it with the Google search engine - they’re totally different answers. So if you ask your Google Mini, “What’s the weather?” It’s not going to read out, “Search result 1: webpage for weather service from channel 4 showing local 10-day blah blah. Search Result 2...” It just says: “The weather will be a high of 13 today, low of 5, and rainy, so take an umbrella.” In the same way, if you ask Google Mini, Alexa, Siri, etc, “Is Father Christmas real?” They’ve all been programmed with a cutesy answer. Everyone has shared theirs, and many posters have shared the answer FROM Google Mini (Google Assistant). You Googling things online will never show you how a Google Mini will provide the same information. So either your children asked something very different, like, “What is the history behind Father Christmas?” or they went on a computer and bypassed the Mini. It’s a Christmas mystery

DS2 is 8 and still firmly believes. He even tells his friends they're wrong. It wouldn't occur to him to ask Google mini though.
