At a friends house using their Google mini. Thankfully they're old enough to already know but still.
AIBU to be pissed off?

How old are they? Does it matter? Haven’t you told them that there’s an awful lot of rubbish on the internet?

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 23/11/2019 18:34

All I know is that someone has been eating all my mince pies and he looks the type

Ha, I love that Grin

dontlickthelamp · 23/11/2019 18:34

Siri and Alexa both say things that imply he is real, does google not?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/11/2019 18:35

My Siri said "Be careful. I don't want you ending up on the naughty list."

I'm surprised google doesn't have a similar stock answer.

Redcherries · 23/11/2019 18:38

I just tested it, she made the same comment as a previous poster, implying he is real.

spacepyramid · 23/11/2019 18:38

If it wasn't google it would have been somebody else at school. If you think Google is bad, try having your child realise when you are in the queue for a grotto and announcing it to everybody.

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/11/2019 18:40

Siri and Alexa both say things that imply he is real, does google not?

Google says similar. The op is confused I think.

Treaclepie19 · 23/11/2019 18:40

Mine said "I ho ho hope he's real"

Treaclepie19 · 23/11/2019 18:40

Google too btw.

hopelesssuitcase · 23/11/2019 18:41

I just asked mine (is santa real) and she said "I ho-ho-hope he's real"

Keepmewarm · 23/11/2019 18:41

If they are old enough to have unsupervised internet access then they are old enough to know.

KenDodd · 23/11/2019 18:41

They all knew already, they're older, they thought it was hilarious actually. I'll have to ask them what they actually said to get that answer, what words they used. They just said they'd asked is FC real.

smoresmores · 23/11/2019 18:43

Sounds as though they were calling your bluff to see what you would say, given Google does have a stock answer. So be annoyed with yourself?

KenDodd · 23/11/2019 18:44

They gave me some info as if it was Wikipedia, history etc. I'm glad others aren't so factual.

OP posts:
KenDodd · 23/11/2019 18:45

Just typed the question in (don't have (voice assistance) no fun cutesy answer there.

OP posts:
smoresmores · 23/11/2019 18:47

Oh right

You're annoyed with ... The entire internet?

Ok then. Agree entirely OP, every website owner with a reference to Santa should have edited their content in the run up to the holidays.

smoresmores · 23/11/2019 18:48

Did you know this very thread will be indexed by Google and could one day come up for a search of 'is Santa real'.

How could you? Are you the grinch? Grin

KenDodd · 23/11/2019 18:49

Just typed in 'is God real?' First couple of answers a definite 'yes' !

OP posts:
hopelesssuitcase · 23/11/2019 18:49

Rephrased it - is Father Christmas real?
Answer - "well I get presents every year and that can't be a coincidence"

smoresmores · 23/11/2019 18:49

That's because the people who wrote those pages will very much believe that as fact.

Less adults making websites and web content who believe Santa is real.

hopelesssuitcase · 23/11/2019 18:50

I think posters are confusing google "the entire internet" and the google assistant who speaks to you on a google home/mini etc.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 23/11/2019 18:50

So google told them what they already knew and your mad Hmm

sirfredfredgeorge · 23/11/2019 18:52

I just asked mine (is santa real) and she said "I ho-ho-hope he's real"

This is actually worse than the others I think, they didn't express any doubt themselves in it being real, whereas this does - the device has doubt, but hope. The others whilst not saying for certain that he is real, don't express any doubt in avoiding the question.

Not that it matters much of course, kids who are able to have the concept of the question of a real-ness know it's a story, but it's still not as good an answer.

Petrichor11 · 23/11/2019 18:53

Siri told me to be careful or I’d end up on the naughty list Grin

schafernaker · 23/11/2019 18:54

Just checked with Alexa and Siri they both said something about mince pies ❤️
