To think this is way too early - Christmas tree

SerenDippitty · 21/11/2019 21:43

Just come back from a week away and noticed as I turned into my road a house with a Christmas tree and lights up already. It is not yet the last week of November.

OP posts:
Justmuddlingalong · 22/11/2019 00:10

Unless they've plugged their fairy lights into your leccy supply, I can't see why it's any of your business.

grisen · 22/11/2019 00:24

Eeeh me and my partner both work opposite shifts for the most part and no guarantee of being together and not asleep until Christmas Day. So we put our tree up yesterday as we like to do it together, the rest of the decorations will go up as and when we have the energy.

Wheredidigowrongggggg · 22/11/2019 00:32

Nov is weird. 8 weeks of tree and decs? Would be bored shitless by 25/12! These people deserve our scorn. It’s bloody nuts.

DramaAlpaca · 22/11/2019 00:35

I agree with you, OP, but each to their own.

I'm at the opposite extreme, the tree goes up the weekend before Christmas.

dontlickthelamp · 22/11/2019 00:36

Mine goes up this weekend. I don’t get bored of it

73kittycat73 · 22/11/2019 00:36

All this 'I'll be bored of it by Christmas,' crap gets on my nerves. Do you get bored of your everyday ornaments and only have them out a few weeks at a time? Hmm

HerRoyalNotness · 22/11/2019 00:39

Yep loads around my way have them up. I was picking up my car from repair tonight and the garage had their massive tree up too. I like it, but can’t be bothered putting mine up at all this year

Justonemoremojito · 22/11/2019 00:56

I've put mine up 🎄 things are a bit rubbishy for my kids at the minute & they wanted to do it so I thought why not!

MistyCloud · 22/11/2019 01:08

@Wheredidigowrongggggg

It's not 8 weeks til Christmas.

It's less than 5 weeks.

HTH.

MistyCloud · 22/11/2019 01:14

I am waiting for the 'we don't put our Christmas tree and decorations up til 23rd of December, and take them down Boxing day' brigade to pop on here. Wink

Won't be long!

@SerenDippitty YABU. It's none of your business. Why do people think they have a right to spout negative comments and bile when people put their Christmas decorations up around December 1st - ?

Or...... SHOCK HORROR - the week before December 1st? Shock

They are hurting no-one, and yeah you have got negative responses... so what? If you only wanted people to post who agree with you, you should have made that more clear in your OP.

Why ask 'AIBU?' And then say 'I KNEW I would get these responses!' when most people disagree with you? Confused

Batshit.

MistyCloud · 22/11/2019 01:18

Oh, and @SerenDippitty our Christmas decorations and tree are going up on Sunday the 1st of December! And they'll be up til 5th January. And we have a fuck-ton of outside lights too - AND a few inside ones - that all go on at 4pm. The outside ones go off at 9pm though, in case someone complains. (There is always one mood hoover who sucks the fun out of everything.) Wink

TheSandman · 22/11/2019 01:44

Mine goes up on Christmas Eve - comes down on 12th Night.

People keep banging on about 'Christmas traditions'. Most of it is bollocks invented or rebranded by corporations over the last 100 years or so to suck as much money as possible out of a gullible public.

Fuck it. And fuck Charles Dickens for inventing the whole miserable experience in he first place.

GoFiguire · 22/11/2019 06:33

Actually, it was Prince Albert who invented Christmas @TheSandman bloody Germans once Brexit is done we won’t have this foreign crap a nice orange and a church service is all we need oh no we will be an American satellite state so everyone will have to buy a turkey deep fat fryer and we will have turkey and E numbers for 15 weeks starting in October hth

theEnglishInPatient · 22/11/2019 07:35

Actually, I think people going overboard and that weird competition of starting Christmas earlier and earlier really spoils it for the rest of us.
If people didn't buy Christmas tat from August, and were going overboard from September, October, shops wouldn't bother and we wouldn't be sick of Christmas by the time December finally arrives.

No wonder people get rid of their tree from Boxing Day, it has been going on for far too long by them

It's a shame, people with their life away, miss out on Autumn and the month before Christmas and then are miserable in January February.

Weird way to celebrate really.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 22/11/2019 07:45

Most people who i know who have tree up early are doing it because that have had a shit time and are bringing in a little joy early.

This might help those thinking Dickens invented Christmas....Hmm or prince albert (he just did the tree)

Kpo58 · 22/11/2019 08:01

If people didn't buy Christmas tat from August, and were going overboard from September, October, shops wouldn't bother and we wouldn't be sick of Christmas by the time December finally arrives.

It's a chicken and egg situation. People find that Christmas stuff is going out if stock in mid December, so they buy earlier next year. The companies then think that we want to buy earlier and so release things earlier and items then become out of stock earlier, so people think that next year they have to buy earlier...

Greenbutterlfy566 · 22/11/2019 14:14

Does it matter?

dottypotter · 22/11/2019 14:28

of course it is. Put the tree up Christmas Eve and when you come down in the morning its Christmas day so much more magical if your in to Christmas.

Beeziekn33ze · 22/11/2019 14:35

I’ve spent 2 weeks indoors feeling ill and sorry for myself. When I put the bins out I noticed 2 neighbours’ houses with Christmas lights. It cheered me up that they felt happy and positive and had made the effort to do it!

Christmas once a year is bad enough but the earlier people start the more we dont get rid of it.

The adverts and presents and cards appear from September. Really we are bombarded by Xmas 9 months out of 12.

IF it has to be christmas wouldnt once every 4 years like the Olympics make it more special.

I'm putting mine up later because I want to.

Don't give two hoots if people think it's too early.
