Just come back from a week away and noticed as I turned into my road a house with a Christmas tree and lights up already. It is not yet the last week of November.

a neighbor does it 1st of November every year, inside, window front garden and back garden

hes a old chap that lives all alone so i think it cheers him up

we are doing it Saturday

Celebelly · 21/11/2019 23:02

We are worse than scum by MN standards as our tree goes up 1st December and comes down about the 27th or 28th.

cocoabasher · 21/11/2019 23:04

My Nanna has her tree up and she is in her 80's

I thought it was lovely tbh

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2019 23:06

Celebelly we are worse than you, I sometimes put the tree up on Christmas Eve and always take it down before New Year. One year I put the tree away in the loft without taking any decorations off it first. Grin

PrettyShiningPeople · 21/11/2019 23:11

It’s way too early for me but I can’t get fussed about when other people want to put their decs up, although if they’re the sort of person who thinks Christmas is done with on the 27th Dec they can bugger off !

TiceCream · 21/11/2019 23:15

My tree is up... in the fucking loft where it belongs until December.

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2019 23:17

Tice Grin

Whoops75 · 21/11/2019 23:21

You have no idea what might prompt someone to do this.

Mind your own business

VisionQuest · 21/11/2019 23:22

I know someone who puts their tree up in October Confused

My husband rolled his eyes when I suggested 1st Dec for our tree!

bellsbuss · 21/11/2019 23:23

My children are already moaning at me as apparently everyone else has their tree up, I'm putting ours up in 2 weeks time.

theEnglishInpatient · 21/11/2019 23:24

Of course it's too early.

It will be quite dry by Christmas as well Sad

BlackCatSleeping · 21/11/2019 23:27

We are pretty desperate to get ours up. I think the last weekend before December is fine. We take ours down on Boxing Day though. We also use a plastic tree. I suspect that breaks at least 4 Mumsnet rules.

CherryBathBomb · 21/11/2019 23:28

Ours is going up this Sunday 🌲

Celebelly · 21/11/2019 23:29

We are doing a fake tree for the first time this year as crawling DD and pine needles all over the carpet are not an enticing combo. I will raise a glass to MN on the 27th when I'm taking down our fake tree Grin

Waitingforadulthood · 21/11/2019 23:33

I like to put it up early AND take it down "late" -it's twelfth night ffs! Not late at all but the 12 th day of Christmas I'm going for Saturday. All the towns put their lights on last week so I figure I'm behind the times

SerenDippitty · 21/11/2019 23:40

In one of my old Enid Blytons the Famous Five put up their Christmas tree on Christmas Eve.

That’s what we did when I was a child and I’m not old enough to have been a child when Enid Blyton was writing. DH’s parents also put up their tree and decorations on Christmas Eve after he had gone to bed, it was part of the magic when he came down on Christmas morning.

If it brings them joy who cares? They put a Christmas tree up not drowned a puppy
Did you know that for every tree up before Dec 1st, an elf drowns a baby reindeer?

TitsMcGeeee · 21/11/2019 23:49

I don't mind people decorating early, but what I hate is when they're declaring all over social media (or forums like this) that they're taking it down on Christmas Day night or Boxing Day because Christmas is over. That sucks the fun out of it for those who like to celebrate Christmas at the traditional time (12 days).

theEnglishInPatient · 21/11/2019 23:50

that sounds lovely, but I could never gather the energy to do that!
(by the time kids fall asleep, would be putting the tree up at 3am Grin )

StillCoughingandLaughing · 21/11/2019 23:58

I knew I would get loads of”what’s it to you” responses though.

Then why did you post? You’ve made up your mind, you knew what the responses would be - what a waste of time.

scrivette · 21/11/2019 23:59

We bought our tree today to put up at the weekend. Our village Christmas lights are turned on at the weekend so we like to do ours on the same weekend.

ShippingNews · 22/11/2019 00:01

I've got mine up and no I'm not wishing my life away. I just like Christmas trees.

MaryShelley1818 · 22/11/2019 00:04

It would be way too early for me but it’s clearly not too early for them.

DS has an early December Birthday and I like him to properly celebrate his Birthday (Although he’s only a toddler) and then Christmas starts the following weekend. That’s our plans anyway.

BlackCatSleeping · 22/11/2019 00:05

I think it is becoming increasingly popular to put up early and take down early.

SnorkMaiden81 · 22/11/2019 00:06

I might put mine up this weekend. I love alone, I've had a difficult few months, the next few weekends are kind of busy, it just might bring me a bit of joy.

I don't really care what anyone else thinks.
