It’s an old clip but he’s on top form.

Mumsnet seems to be quite a left wing website

MN has always struck me as being fiscally right of centre and socially left of centre. At the risk of over-simplifying, basically in favour of a free-market economy, but within a society that looks after its vulnerable and less well-off.

I might have voted Tory for Teresa May or Rory Stewart. But not for any of the others in the leadership bid. And especially not for Johnson.

I’ll even vote Corbyn in desperation to keep him out (strong Tory seat here and labour is the only other possibility)

^"Clav, what you just pasted, what Boris Johnson wrote just confirms my post. Are we supposed to be reassured by the context in which he suggested that Obama’s part-Kenyan heritage was an issue?

Yes, his first suggestion is that Obama removed Churchill's bust in a snub to Britain - full stop. I have found the part-Kenyan reference in the American press - this is the controversy that Johnson is referring to:

"Some Republicans and conservatives [US conservatives] interpreted Obama's move as a snub to the United Kingdom, one of the U.S.'s closest allies."

"Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in 2011 called Obama's decision "a great insult to the British."

"His perspective as growing up in Kenya with a Kenyan father and grandfather. He probably grew up hearing that the British were a bunch of imperialists who persecuted his grandfather."

And here:
"Mike Huckabee has been pretty well worked over for his “Obama grew up in Kenya” foray into birtherism, but the context has not been given sufficient attention."

And here in 2017:
"NOOOO! Donald Trump Immediately Removes Martin Luther King, Jr. Bust And Replaces It With THIS!"

"Donald Trump has reinstalled a bust of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in the Oval Office, removing the bust of Martin Luther King, Jr."

"The Churchill bust was removed from the office in 2009 under former President Barack Obama, a move that sparked conservative ire early in his administration."

The only possible decent early Christmas gift this year could be from the good people of Uxbridge.
I think I may stay up to watch that one come in.

Clav and having made those references to those offensive claims, how did Boris challenge them? I mean, we know why the bust disappeared - because it was a loan to George W Bush.

Funny how many Tory-haters choose to live in rock-solid Tory seats...

It's almost like things change. My seat was labour (small majority) from 1997-2015. Then in 2017 we returned a solid majority for Tory.
Obviously seats change hands, or we'd never change government majorities. We can't move every time our MP represents a party we don't like.

Do we?
The Guardian 2016 -

"However, there were actually two Churchill busts–one that was on loan to president George W Bush from 2001 to 2009, which sat in the Oval Office, and a second that the White House has had since the 1960s."

"The White House had argued that the first bust had been removed simply because the start of Obama’s presidency coincided with the end of the bust’s loan."

"However, the president confirmed he did have a hand in its removal from the Oval Office, citing the lack of space and clutter in the room. As the first African-American president, he said he thought it was right to have a bust of Martin Luther King Jr “to remind him of the people who helped get him there”."

Why do you think the racist Boris Johnson might make reference to Obama’s part Kenyan heritage and suggest he has an ancestral hatred of the British Empire?

Hands up who thinks it’s totally innocent?

The Guardian 2008?

"Revealed: Britain's torture of Obama's grandfather"

"The past usually finds a way of catching up with us.Could Britain's colonial sins pose a risk to our relationship with the soon-to-be most powerful person on Earth?"

"According to the Times, Barack Obama's grandfather was imprisoned and tortured by the British during Kenya's Mau Mau uprising."

"The claim is spread across three pages of the newspaper and illustrated with black and white photographs of detention camps operated by British soldiers in the 1950s."

Oh Clav you appear to have inadvertently deleted the word ‘racist’ when you copied and pasted my quote about Boris.

It’s ok to call him a racist. It’s proven. The BBC lawyers cleared the show The Mash Report to have the words “Boris Johnson is a racist and a liar” in large glittery flashing lights on the show because it would stand up in court.

I couldn't afford to move when the Tory got in - like most people can't whenever their MP changes.

The Mash Report doesn't get very good reviews does it:

"self satisfied, self adulatory, unchallenged left-wing propaganda”

"Perhaps Brand’s most obnoxious defender has been Nish Kumar. Kumar hosts the satirical news programme The Mash Report, which is so miserably and relentlessly unfunny that it makes The World at War look like a bundle of laughs." Grin

@Clavinova

The issue of the viability of the cable car is just a side issue. The point about the cable car is that Johnson said it would not cost the taxpayer a penny and yet it ended up costing £24m of UK taxpayers' money and over €9m of EU taxpayers' money. As with so much of what Johnson touches, what he promises and what the reality turns out to be are very often two different things.

"TfL’s Head of the Emirates Air Line, said: “Almost 10.5 million customers have enjoyed using the Emirates Air Line since it opened in 2012"

"The cable car links two areas of the capital that are the focus of ambitious regeneration schemes and we expect numbers to grow as this area is further developed. This transport link plays an important role in helping visitors get to the O2 and ExCeL and is a useful part of London’s transport network.”

Quite a lot of EU taxpayers' money has been spent building statues in Wales - which is partly why Wales voted to leave the EU.
