To be shocked at what happened at ds school today

DS is in year 9 and told me that the teacher decided to choose places for the students to sit. (Normally they choose who they sit next to) Which is fine. However, what shocked me was that all the BAME dc were sat together in one row and all the white skinned DC were together in another row. When my ds asked why they had been segrated to the teacher, they told him to keep quiet Shock aibu to raise this with the school?

@MitziK

Exactly! That’s my worry.

Was this during a particular lesson? I used to work with a history teacher who taught children about segregation by grouping children according to hair colour and chastising one group in particular. This only lasted a lesson though and he fully explained to the children why he had done it

@MitziK If this is a London school, then I doubt it has anything to do with names. Tons of children are dual heritage, so their surname does not indicate their colour. My children are brown, but based on their surname you would never guess.

I would ask the form tutor in a polite and friendly way what the reasoning was and see what they say.

I've spent all my life in London - and in areas where there are a lot of children whose parents have moved here fairly recently, moreover. There are definitely clusters of surnames starting with particular letters, depending upon common names from different locations.
