Just breathed in some green mould dust from a lemon.

I was clearing out our fruit bowl and found a very green dusty mouldy lemon at the bottom. As I went to throw it in the bin a large cloud of the mouldy dust flew up into my face and I’ve managed to inhale a good few lung fulls!

Should I be worried and evacuating the house or just carry on with my Friday evening gin and tonic.

The more I’m thinking about it the more I’m coughing!

Is there a special place to keep lemons that I haven’t been aware of?

In the drinks cabinet.

Surely everyone has a dedicated drinks cabinet?

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 15/11/2019 18:06

Move over banana-man here comes lemon lady....able to stop all known baddies with her super sharp wit

Some might call it acerbic Grin

Am intrigued to know what I can use the mould for. Any suggestions Green Tulips?

I think you will need the medicinal benefits of an extra glass of gin

MitziK · 15/11/2019 18:13

Sliced in advance and stored in the freezer.

Nobody actually uses fresh lemons (or limes) for anything other than the perfect G&T or decorative purposes for Instagram, do they?

merryhouse · 15/11/2019 18:15

Lemons for gin and tonic are kept in the freezer, ready-sliced.

As well as being handy and preventing mould inhalation, this has the added advantage of doing away with the need for ice which dilutes ones gin.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 15/11/2019 18:17

....lemons and limes are juicier at room temp. They do last a lot longer in the fridge tho.

I use them a fair bit in cooking. You can't zest a plastic bottle of lemon juice Grin

I would love a cocktail cabinet.

In my head I’m a glamorous super woman mixing fabulous cocktails after my perfect children have gone to bed without any fussing at the correct time. Leaving me to an evening of sophisticated conversation and wit with my equally fabulous friends.....

In reality I’m a very hassled slightly overweight menopausal Middle aged women battling my children to bed every night so I can have half an hour of peace before I collapse into bed so I can do it all again tomorrow 😀

The gin doesn’t ever make a cupboard let alone a cabinet

Lemons for gin and tonic are kept in the freezer, ready-sliced.

Why have I never thought of this?

PrettyShiningPeople · 15/11/2019 18:21

If you were breathing in green mould every week that might lead to some sort of lung disease, but as a one off I don’t think you should worry.

totallyfrusted · 15/11/2019 18:23

Ladies, you have transformed my life....how have I never thought to keep lemon slices in the freezer.

Guess what I’m going to doing tomorrow

I had the same experience this morning with a lime. Tucked away under some kiwis, which were unscathed. The clouds of green dust! I’ve only had the lime for a week as well. Shoddy workmanship. I am not dead despite breathing in quite a bit of lime mould dust. That should give you hope!

NightIbble · 15/11/2019 18:29

I always keep lemons in the fridge to put in my water bottle and squeeze into glasses of coke. But I'm a bit odd and will happily suck lemons.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 15/11/2019 18:29

You’re a lot more likely to die from the effects of the gin.
Sorry.
Enjoy your evening.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 15/11/2019 18:42

You need to drink your gin neat in order to kill the mould spores.

GreenTulips · 15/11/2019 20:16

What we really need is lemon flavored ice

MitziK · 15/11/2019 20:24

That's easy. Put chunks of lemon into a blender with water, blitz, pour into icecube container, freeze.

Cathpot · 15/11/2019 20:27

It was probably penicillin mould so no panic .
I’ve just been handed a drink with an unfrozen lemon slice. I’m outraged .

BBInGinDrinking · 15/11/2019 20:36

By 'eck lass, tha's not drinking enough gin if tha's letting tha lemons go mouldy.

SaveTheTreesPlease · 15/11/2019 20:53

This thread has put a smile on my face for the first time today - thanks OP!

Hisdoeherbuck · 15/11/2019 20:55

It’s probably penicillin, you may be healthier for it!

Butteredtoast55 · 15/11/2019 21:29

I hope your kitchen is being thoroughly decontaminated and cleaned for you by experts in Hazmat suits whilst you are in quarantine with medicinal gin and sufficient frozen lemon slices to counteract any unwanted effects.

Osirus · 16/11/2019 00:29

You’ll be fine. I accidentally DRANK some rather appetising green mould a few weeks ago. I’m still here!

It was lumpy and the liquid tasted like alcohol. It was in my child’s bottle (solid colour, so couldn’t see through) and I thought someone had given her some wine or something! It used to be orange squash.

SamBeckett · 16/11/2019 00:40

In theory ( not a Doc ) you have just had a big does of penicillin surely haven't you ?
You will now live forever
or add extra tonic to your Gin , Quine kills everything !

SamBeckett · 16/11/2019 00:47

PS anyone putting lemon needs to be hung from the yard arm. lime only in gin . ( I works in a bar I do )

I know I will get shot down for this so I am hiding

Gin is bloody horrible ! >>>>>>>>

runs and hides >>>>>>
