disabled parking-ishy question

would you park outside your neighbours house if they were disabled, but didn't have a disabled bay marked out? I have a blue badge but haven't applied for the bay on the road outside my house. neighbour house 3 vehicles. we live in town in a terrace so parking is difficult. they have 1 vehicle outside their house all the time. then park the vehicle they use more, outside mine. I know I have no claim to the spot outside my house, but it makes things just that bit harder. I just wouldn't do this if situation was reversed, so interested to know what consensus is

so the question is, would you do this?

I’d probably assume that it didn’t matter that much if you hadn’t had a bay marked out. If you asked me not to park there I wouldn’t but of course it’s likely that someone else would.

@CactusAndCacti the council don't have to 'police' disabled bays confused as it is not illegal to park in disabled bays. they are advisory only

thats wrong. if it as a pole only BB holders can park in it. its only advisory if it doesn't have a pole.

housemdwaswrong · 15/11/2019 11:38

Even with a disabled bay it's not 'yours' if someone else has a blue badge they are entitled to use it also.. though obviously most people wouldn't..

Bellaxx8 · 15/11/2019 11:39

I would park there if there was no other spaces.
I wouldn’t purposely park there if there was other spaces.

Round where I live, I would, because if I didn’t I would only drive round looking for a space, watching others drive straight into the free space outside your house. Refraining from using it wouldn’t help you.

SunshineAngel · 15/11/2019 12:11

If I could avoid doing so, no, out of consideration. If there was nowhere else to park for miles, I think I would.

My grandparents had a neighbour with a disabled bay, but he died, and the bay is still there. I always park in it when I visit because I know they're not disabled there anymore, and they come out and have a go at me.. despite not even owning a car!! The parking in their street is so tough, I'd have to go into the next street if it weren't for that.

TheMidasTouch · 15/11/2019 12:22

Apply for your bay but don't be surprised if others park there. Decent people will leave a disabled bay clear for you but just remember they are only advisory and anyone can actually legally park in them. If your neighbours are unpleasant and know about this, they might continue to park there.

There is a different problem in our road in that a disabled bay was drawn up outside one house where the lady died about 3 years ago. God help anyone who tries parking there now. The lady's son, who is not disabled, has run-ins with plenty of residents about it and treats it as his own personal parking space. He also keeps the metal disabled sign on his house too.

I think if the council provide them they should remove the paintwork when a resident dies (especially in areas where parking is difficult such as no garages as bf/or drives).

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 15/11/2019 12:39

Apply to your council to erase the paintwork on the road + remove pole with advisory signage. Keep at them till they do it. The bay will remain active until this is done ( someone like your neighbour parking in it, with no blue badge, would be liable for a fine - here anyway).
The other issue necessitates residents to challenge him. Bullies often back-down when challenged.
Out of interest, is his a local authority house? They mighty not like inaccurate signage on their property Wink

I once had a disabled bay painted around my car when I was at work. Came out to a ticket. Luckily CCTV saved me from that one!

Wintersnowdrop · 15/11/2019 12:46

I think you need to apply for a disabled bay outside your house.

Jimdandy · 15/11/2019 13:41

Thing with one of those disabled bays if it doesn’t have a road traffic order and a plate, it’s just the square painted on the road, then they’re not legally enforceable anyway so they could still park there

Stressedout10 · 15/11/2019 13:57

@veryshop
They were really quiet annoyed lots of shes just done it to be awkward and parking right up to the line so it was difficult getting in or out of it (after they got multiple tickets for parking in it) right up until the council put double yellow lines for 50 feet on either side of it, which covered the front of their house tooGrin

they could @Jimdandy, but they would have to be real c*s to do that

@veryshop yep I agree

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 16/11/2019 19:18

when we used to talk...at that time he would purposefully leave 'my space' free

Has there been an argument or another issue? It seems they used to be reasonable... is there a root cause here that you could resolve and take things back to where they were, without requiring a bay?

If you've fallen out and they're now parking there to be awkward and right perceived wrongs, they may also park in your advisory bay, I'd have thought. They seem the sort.
