To have only realised after THIRTY FIVE years that George Michael wasn't planning on a golden solo?!

Yes, I may as well share this with MN as it cheered DH up so much this morning...

I have only just realised (embarrassingly whilst singing this in earshot of DH Blush) that in Wake me you before you go go, George Michael wasn't actually singing "I'm not planning on a golden solo" and instead he just didn't want to be going solo Shock

(disclaimer: I was young when this song came out! I assumed a golden solo he meant he didn't want to be in the spotlight - having written that down I realise how fucking stupid it sounds Blush)

Also, he wasn't singing Cherrybug in this song either. Well who knew? (According to DH - everyone)

I'm dying a little inside here.

Well, in Karma Chameleon i always thought the sang Come a come a Chameleon!

suchagoofball · 14/11/2019 15:47

Well now that you're all as stupid as me making me feel better, it was also a revelation to me that "freeze....sweat" was actually "respect" (this was some bizarre niche punk band of DH's not the Aretha Franklin version. If that makes it better. Probably not)

Are you by any chance talking about Walk by Pantera? Because I will only be hearing your version from now on!

(Though YABU to call them a niche punk band if it is them you're talking about, as they're neither!)

Ellie56 · 14/11/2019 15:47

I always think Olivia Newton John's "You're the one that I want," sounds like, "You're the Wizard of Oz..." Grin

rosegoldwatcher · 14/11/2019 15:47

the hills are alive
Is that the same Desmond Decker song that definitely begins, "Get up in the morning, baked beans for breakfast..?"

AryaStarkWolf · 14/11/2019 15:47

I'm afraid you're all wrong about Bananarama. I'm guilty as a common thief.

You actually made me think that I had been singing it wrong all these years when you posted that, I thought you were serious and I even googled it Grin

paap1975 · 14/11/2019 15:54

These have been great. My own is:

It's the fine old tam tam (final countdown)

Justme10 · 14/11/2019 15:55

Praise you like a shoe - fatboy slim
Think that is pretty common though Blush

Libertylee · 14/11/2019 15:56

Take my breath away by Berlin. All I hear is “turning every turd into some secret place to hide” 😂

Freddie Mercury is concerned about pork sausages in bohemian rhapsody... “he’s just a poor boy, from a poor family. Spare him his life from pork sau-sa-gees.”

Little Mix “he’s got the biggest cock, don’t mean he can drive me wild” — thought that was a bit on the nose for a tween pop song. It’s ‘car’ Grin

kateluvscats · 14/11/2019 16:04

Correct lyrics: 'take your passion and make it happen'
What I've sung for the last 20 years: 'take your pants down and make it happen' 😩

FemininPluriel · 14/11/2019 16:06

‘Papa don’t preach, I’ve been losing sleep’ was, until fairly recently in my life, ‘...I’m in a mood, y’see?’

I still think my lyric is better.

PocketDictionary · 14/11/2019 16:09

I think PP's Reverend Bluejeans is brilliant.

transformandriseup · 14/11/2019 16:12

Drink cider from a lemon? WTH

Stuckinanutshell · 14/11/2019 16:15

You’re So Vain - I thought for years the line ‘Or the wife of a close friend’ was ‘the wife of the postman’ and thought the song very specific with that lol. I only found out when mocking the song for portraying postmen in a bad light.

Letsgowalking · 14/11/2019 16:15

I always wondered why he was singing about the ‘Cat’s whiskers’ when I was a child. And I also felt that Baby D was a bit odd when she warbled ‘Let me fill your pants with wee’

KnightandDay · 14/11/2019 16:16

Hotdog, jumping frog, Albuquerque
I always thought that was "Hotdog, jumping for a Burger King" - which makes just as much sense really. I thought it was about Burger King selling hot dogs.

Letsgowalking · 14/11/2019 16:18

‘cat’s whiskers’ = ‘careless whisper’ in my 7 year old mind...

Stuckinanutshell · 14/11/2019 16:18

@SVRT19674

WHAT?!?!? It’s not?!?! WTF?! I thought it was ‘come, come, come on chameleon’. I’m 37: I’ve always thought this.

Mind. Blown. I must now question everything.

TattiePants · 14/11/2019 16:23

@OwlBeThere, my mind's blown. I've always sung 'if it's not our day.' I had to google it as I didn't believe you!

Pinkkahori · 14/11/2019 16:23

When dd2 was younger she was obsessed with Frozen.
One day she asked me who Ray and John were in the film because she never saw them.
When I asked her why she thought there were characters with these names in the film she said 'because in the song Let it go it's says let the storm Ray John, the cold never bothered me anyway'

YouFellAsleeep · 14/11/2019 16:34

My dad is a huge Elvis fan so I heard a lot of
Elvis growing up, I use to think in “All Shook Up” he was singing “a motion cup” 😂

CloudPop · 14/11/2019 16:36

My kids used to sing along to "my socks are on fire"

x2boys · 14/11/2019 16:40

Summer lovin ( from grease ) the line near then end "Summer dreams ripped at the Seam,s " I always heard it as " Summer dreams drift out to sea " I think my lyrics are better and fit in within the context of the song ,A friend used to Sing My Lover,s got no !money he's got m s Tambourine,s

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 14/11/2019 16:41

I always thought it was Roman cavalry choirs in Viva la Vida, but DS convinced me I was stupid and it was Roman Catholic choirs. I am vindicated!!

kungfupannda · 14/11/2019 16:43

Everybody’s got a hungry horse

That's probably the same horse that Dua Lipa's other half bought after promising faithfully that he'd be responsible for keeping it nice and clean, and now she's had it with him and his dirty horse.

'Shower the horse, I'm done.'

Still not buying that it's 'ciao adios I'm done.'

I'm also another one who is unconvinced about Karma Chameleon - I swear it's 'Golden dreams, golden dreams.'
