Please help me think, I feel really ill with a cold and brain won't work.

I'm normally fit and well, if sleep deprived.

* I am worried about my foot. *

UNRELATED to foot I spent Saturday in A&E being treated & scanned abdo - all fine. Given IV gentamicin. I also have a very nasty cold which is making me feel really rubbish. I'm not flattened ie flu but am struggling to function.

Foot thing is this. I managed to injure the ball of my foot near the toe last Friday. Can't remember how but got glass or a splinter or something, cleaned it, small chunk of skin cut off.

It's been getting more and more uncomfortable over the last few days hurts now even when I'm not trying to walk on it. Might still have something in it eg bit of glass but not sure.

I did a major clean, soak in salt water, etc last night but still very uncomfortable at 5am.

111 online survey said A&E within 4 hours.

WIBU to go to GP or wait 24hrs?

OP did not ring 111

OP I hope you are on your way to get checked out very soon.

OhTheRoses · 13/11/2019 08:01

Daughter to another family to get her to school. A&E now! Phone school, explain and a kind teacher will almost certainly take her in early then straight to A&E. No time to waste.

MorrisZapp · 13/11/2019 08:08

Once you're fixed and feeling better, will you come back and tell us how you managed to injure your foot in a forgotten incident? I'm intrigued by this! Good luck.

SaskiaRembrandt · 13/11/2019 08:21

A couple of years ago a friend injured her foot in a very similar way, she put off going to A&E because the injury seemed so minor but, long story short, did end up being rushed in and diagnosed with sepsis. She nearly died. As it was, she spent a long time in hospital, and it took months for her to recover.

Please go to A&E, OP!

shinynewapple · 13/11/2019 08:26

I think a wound in your foot is A&E not GP

If I had attended my GP with similar they would tell me to go to A&E so time wasted.

Please don't take your germs into the school this afternoon.

theemmadilemma · 13/11/2019 08:40

I would say A&E.

I feel for you. I also have a similarly injured foot. I avoided IV in hospital - just, and sepsis was a concern also. But this has been going on since late September. I've had enough of flip flops now, and it's only just finally healing properly.

A&E is the better option I think.

Neome · 13/11/2019 08:41

Being seen in A&E

Thank goodness for that OP! Hope that it goes well. Do say the word "Sepsis" as it triggers the protocol if they don't flag it up themselves immediately

hopeishere · 13/11/2019 08:48

They might need to X-ray to see if there is glass in there so GP no use.

Lumene · 13/11/2019 09:06

Why are you asking mumsnet when111 hasgiven you advice? I wouldn’t be mucking about with my health.

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 13/11/2019 09:11

Great. Good luck OP.

SaskiaRembrandt · 13/11/2019 09:14

That's good to hear, OP! Fingers crossed it's a minor infection and they get you sorted out asap.

HorridHamble · 13/11/2019 09:15

You’ve done the right thing. My sister had similar injury and symptoms. Needed iv abs. I hope you feel better very soon.

HaveIgoneMad · 13/11/2019 09:21

I hope you get sorted very soon OP and feel better Flowers

Apolloanddaphne · 13/11/2019 09:39

Glad to hear you are in A&E. Hope you are seen soon.

SoupDragon · 13/11/2019 09:40

Why are you asking mumsnet when111 hasgiven you advice?

She used the app which is surely just going to give set advice based on a flowchart. It might have been that a GP appointment made more sense. (It didn't but it could have)

Neome · 13/11/2019 09:47

Foot been Xrayed. Registrar not worried about Sepsis as thinks I have flu despite flu jab.

Really appreciate the Hive mind of MN helping me out when too ill to think clearly.

Feel dreadful but been given a strong painkiller. The NHS is a wonderful thing, must find a way to say thank you.

steff13 · 13/11/2019 09:56

They think you have the flu? Didn't they give you a test for the flu?

habipprtyh · 13/11/2019 10:07

Given that you were also in A&E all day in Saturday I would expect something more conclusive than they 'think' you have flu.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/11/2019 10:11

I'm not sure how they can determine you have flu unless they've done blood tests to rule out sepsis or at least cellulitis.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/11/2019 10:12

why does he think you are in increasing pain with your foot? Is he going to treat it? Flu doesn't give you a very sore foot.

steff13 · 13/11/2019 10:13

I would have at least expected them to do a nasal swab to determine if it was the flu before just assuming it was.

Neome · 13/11/2019 10:14

No, no test for flu.

Dihydrocodeine has definitely helped, still feel very ill but foot just an ache now.

For anyone who might be interested:

Many posters realised I didn't speak to 111, I rang it and was sent a link to an app which asks branching questions. It's good but not perfectly user friendly.

5yo has additional needs so although other school parents are lovely it's not a straightforward ask.

School were wonderful. We arrived at the start of breakfast club and were scooped up. I can't praise them enough.

This is making me realise I really do need some kind of backup.

I’m not a hypochondriac and I would get it seen ASAP. I know someone who had a sore on foot just from wearing cheap shoes, and it turned to sepsis - she was very lucky. Not trying to scare you by any means, but it’s just worth ruling it out!

Newbie1999 · 13/11/2019 10:16

Sorry, didn’t RTFT - glad you’ve been!
