To boot everyone off my netflix account?

Had a long shitty day and feeling rather rotten with a sore throat. Finally got my 4&2 year old in bed and have been looking forward to keep watching unbelievable on netflix but lo and behold theres too many devices currently watching!

My inlaws are watching only fools and horses in bed on the iPad (fil has the bloody boxset on dvd) and either my mum/bro/sister are watching The Sinner. I feel bad for my inlaws as they are both poorly with chest infections but ffs, I bet if my mum is watching shes bloody fallen asleep.

Aibu to boot them all off so I can watch it?

@WhatTiggersDoBest

As I already said before... I didnt give out my details to anyone actually. I visit my inlaws/mum regularly and set it up on there myself so that I could watch things whilst there and its remained on there. That's not so many people. My closest family.

And again, I have helped contribute to netflix to help to make one of these great shows so I feel zero guilt in allowing my inlaws/mothers house to watch it, I should probably be exempt from paying ever again but there we go!

No need for guilt, here are just a few of the many apps that let multiple people use one account:

Sky Go
Virgin TV Go
NOW TV
Netflix
BT TV
Apple TV

It’s standard practice.

Hithere2 · 13/11/2019 16:45

So it's worse.

Because you install it in their tv, they use it.

I don't know why you came here if clearly you are not going to change anything.
You don't mind them watching it but when you opened the thread you were mad you had no screens left.

Crazyoldmaurice · 13/11/2019 17:53

@Hithere2

"So its worse" 😂 serious much?

My aibu was over whether I should pull the plug on them all that night and watch myself, its netflix for heaven sakes... not a life or death situ! I dont need to "change anything" anyway, if I was actually seriously angry about the situation I would just have booted them off without starting a thread, it was supposed to be a lighthearted thread, not genuinely asking for future advice 😂

And an update:

I just spoke with my mum and told her at my outrage not to be able to watch unbelievable last night with too many devices logged in and said it made matters worse knowing she had probably fallen asleep (when my mum comes over to stay we can never watch a film together as it's a running joke in our family that she just cant stay awake) and it turns out she had fallen asleep and had no idea what "the sinner" was even about so turned it off 😂😂😂

@Crazyoldmaurice why not get some of the others to download the content? Would it still cause conflict?

Happygirl79 · 14/11/2019 17:55

If they dont pay for it then boot them off

Mummmmyof2 · 14/11/2019 18:01

Change the password....simple

calimommy · 14/11/2019 20:49

Kate0902900908 · 14/11/2019 20:57

caringcarer · 14/11/2019 21:46

We share an account with our 2 adult sons and it works fine. Could you Mum not watch it during the day if she is home ill? I would just let them know you want it between X and Y time and they should not use it during this time.

Vulpine · 14/11/2019 21:50

Why cant people pay for their own feckin tv

celticprincess · 14/11/2019 22:23

My ex and I share an account and have log ins for us and the kids. It’s the premium. Issue once I let a friend have the password to watch one series. Never thought anything if it did a while until my log in kept bring up stuff I hadn’t watch or stuff I was in the middle of but at the wrong place. Couldn’t figure it out then found out the friend was still using the account. Friend can more than afford own account. Password changed immediately. Told friend the ex had cancelled his account. Friend was huffed but now has log in from another friend. Ex now AWR up alerts for when a new device logs in. When I got the kids new tablets he texted and asked who was logging in. Now if we use a different device I let him know it’s me or the kids. I’ve had a new TB streaming stick then.

celticprincess · 14/11/2019 22:24

*AWR should say set up alerts

Roxy9176 · 14/11/2019 22:37

We had this problem a couple of years ago. We were paying for it and my parents were using it, my in-laws then my Brother in law. We got kicked off and couldn’t watch it ourselves and decided they were taking the pee a bit (especially the in-laws who are cheapskates) so explained and changed the password. In laws weren’t impressed that they had to pay!

middlemuddle · 14/11/2019 22:43

If I'm the one paying and I can't watch it then I'll boot someone off it. I don't feel guilty about it either ;)

BabyDereksToes · 15/11/2019 10:23

I'm a tight arse and only pay for one screen. However, when the new series of the Crown drops, I'll probably upgrade for a month so I cna watch it in peace on the laptop in my bedroom! I would be asking for a contribution if it's meaning that you can't see what you want.
How will Netflix be cracking down? I guess they can see where it's accessed from IP addresses...

cannockcandy · 15/11/2019 11:38

My sister has my details but she is the only one who does. I changed the password cause an ex kept logging on which I thought was cheeky as f so now he cant lol.

CrisisCrunchie · 15/11/2019 15:32

I let my FIL have access to ours on strict instruction that he not share it with anyone else.. the following week he gave the info to his neighbour & my SIL .. when asked about it he claimed to have forgotten he was told not to..

So, I nicely explained that since he is apparently getting senile I couldn’t let him watch unsupervised anymore I. Case he got confused 😂
Then I booted them all off it! 😛

Yet again, it's the actions of a few not following the T&Cs that spoil it for everyone.

The multiuser subscriptions would have been intended for multiple screens within one property, or to allow members of that household to also use the subscription while out and about. Not for people to give passwords to friends/inlaws etc.

So if/when they crack down, it will probably either get more expensive for everyone, or they'll track device IDs or IP addresses more closely and it will be more inconvenient to use/change device if you get a new one for example.

Netflix is not expensive and has lots of great content. Use it within the T&Cs FFS. OP YANBU to kick off your DM and ILs and keep the subscription for your own household use only.

PhilCornwall1 · 15/11/2019 15:45

No, we have it and no other bugger is going to have use of it. If others want it, they can bloody pay for it.
