Baby's First Christmas Dinner.

Doodlinghalfthenight · 12/11/2019 19:08

I'm wanting my LO to have a traditional Christmas Dinner, so working my way through the list of foods to try leading up to it!

Thinking of making mince pies or buying mini ones and letting them have a tiny bit.

They'll be just over eight and half months old.

Anyone know of any baby friendly ones or whether they shouldn't be eating mince pies?

Just thinking they're quite sugary...

Thankyou!

Is this for you or for your child and photos of it?

Child at eight months won't give a shit, so off you go anyway.

pooboobsleeprepeat · 12/11/2019 21:01

What is the reason for the mince pie? Instagram?

HiJenny35 · 12/11/2019 21:03

Yep sounds lovely. Mince pies especially the smaller ones are easy to pick up. Morrisons do ones with icing on top which are pretty sturdy. Don't worry about the sugar, for goodness sake you aren't feeding mince pies breakfast lunch and dinner.

MustardScreams · 12/11/2019 21:11

Actually there’s more sugar in quite a lot of Ella’s Kitchen pouches and I bet babies get fed those a hell of a lot more than just at Christmas.

My baby is the same age.

I’m planning on substituting her expressed milk with Baileys for the 12 days of Christmas.

My dt sons will be 6 mths old on 7th jan.. debating wether or not to put up a wee bowl of dinner for them on christmas day...

Hairwizard · 12/11/2019 21:20

Oh and my dds first christmas was last year. She was 8ths then. She got a little of everything for the dinner but didnt give her any dessert stuff, think we gave her few teaspoons of whipped cream instead.

my daughter will be 6 months beginning of December so i will be weaning to.Do i just place some plain mashed roast potato, plain veg chunks and some lamb in front of her.Let her play with it or do i just give her veg to play with

Wait and see why she’s doing with food by then. Sounds like you plan to do baby-led weaning so let her decide. Two of my kids were eating anything and everything three weeks in and the third barely ate for months. But you can give her whatever you plan to eat (maybe without gravy if you’re using stock cubes) and see what happens.

People always say there are added sugars in pouches but although I don't use them they look ok. Unless you mean fruit pouches which is obvious as it's fruit but again no added sugar.

Just don't stress over it OP Cake have normal cake instead of mince pies Smile

Sugar is sugar whether it’s from a strawberry or a bag of it. I was just pointing out that people were getting stupid about a mince pie, it’s just amusing.

Doubleraspberry · 12/11/2019 21:56

Yep, it’s a bit of a mince pie. If that. Mince pies aren’t part of Christmas dinner anyway. Surely you’ll be giving your child Christmas pudding?

InsertFunnyUsername · 12/11/2019 22:00

My DD was around 9 mo last christmas, If I remember rightly she had some potato and smushed brussel sprouts and held a piece of turkey in her hand the whole time. That was a hit, she didn't really like mince pie.

She had a little bowl of trifle for dessert. Meh its Christmas. Just try her on what you have OP.

Celebelly · 12/11/2019 22:09

I won't be giving DD a mince pie as I want her first dessert that isn't fruit to be something nice. So it will be chocolatey Grin

I remember my oldest nephews first christmas. We had a lovely christmas dinner, he had a hotdog on a plate with a big red coloured napkin. We were all really hapy with our meals. Just give your child what they like to eat for dinner. Certainly we all like to eat something nice at christmas?

ReanimatedSGB · 12/11/2019 22:56

DS was a September baby so his first Christmas he was still on nothing but milk. The second year I remember he had some turkey and veg chopped up small and enjoyed it.
I agree with all PP: just give yours some chopped up meat and veg to try.
