'I know you're on your lunch but...'

I must hear this everyday in the office either said to myself or a co-worker and it annoys the hell out of me!

I dont mind so much when somebody comes over to my desk, goes to ask a question but then realises I'm on lunch and offers to come back later, but it's the people who acknowledge you are not working and still expect you to do something for them or answer their questions (which could definitely have waited half an hour!!)

Anyone else or AIBU?

it's telling that you immediately assume I am in the boss in that scenario.. where did I say I was?
You are clearly in a very junior position and resent it to have such a view of the work place. Chill out.

Noise cancelling earphones and watching something on phone

In 20 years in my last teaching job I don't think I ever had an undisturbed lunch or coffee break! My pupils used to look in my coffee cup in the afternoon and say You're not going to drink that, are you? when it had been there since 8am. I was once asked what a simple luxury was and my reply was A hot cup of coffee at work!

I was once sat at my desk but clearly on my lunch as I was talking on my personal phone. A colleague came and stood behind me and waited. And waited. And waited. I made a point of ignoring her (I know it was rude). She took her query to my boss, who then asked me when I'd finished my break.

It wasn't urgent.

ThatMuppetShow I’m self employed actually and v chill. Don’t have to put up with all that bollocks. Doesn’t mean I don’t empathise with those that do.

Used to go and sit in my car to alleviate this problem. Could recline the passenger seat, cover with a table cloth n have a mini picnic. Was lovely with heated seats in the winter n music on the radio.

Not sure if that helped you much, OP - I doubt it did, sorry. Had a lovely thought back to the past though!

This is why I love being a teacher!! We are clearly on our lunch (together) we sit and chat about everything and anything BUT work!! That’s the rule in our staffroom!! I love it!! We only discuss at the beginning or end of break if it’s urgent!!

Tistheseason17 · 16/11/2019 18:41

Make yourself a lamintaed sign that says "at lunch back at XX" with a clock with hands pointing to the time that you can use a white board marker on it to show the time you are back from your break whilst sat there - I'd find this hilarious if I came to your desk!

doublebarrellednurse · 16/11/2019 19:37

What's a lunch break?

ViserionTheDragon · 16/11/2019 20:49

YANBU. Do you drive to work, OP? If so, sit in your car. Not the best place but it's better than being constantly nagged during your lunch break.
