I feel so tired all the time and I'm stuck between having some down time without the kids and sleep.

I have just been prescribed b12 due to low levels so maybe why I'm feeling so drained.

I have 2 children 1yo and 3yo and they go to bed around 7.30, after that I do a quick tidy up and settle down with dh to watch t.v. or something. We don't usually go to sleep till around 11. I really feel like those few hours to ourselves keep us sane and happy I like to have time without the kids just to relax and feel like getting an early night is losing out on that but I'm really considering settling to sleep about 9.30 as I'm just so tired and getting up is a killer.

We get up at 7 weekdays and 8ish weekends.
How much sleep do you need to feel refreshed?

About 3/4am 😖 I have chronic insomnia. Dh is unwell with bowel cancer and on chemo, so sleeps a lot. I'm normally up by 8 ish to get DH's meds and breakfast ready. I do try and have a small nap in the afternoons sometimes.
My children are all teens now so they sleep at 10pm up at 7am although they all sleep in on non uni/school days.

I have tried everything over the years, including melatonin, medication, routines, hypnotherapy and diet. The only thing guaranteed to knock me out is a general anaesthetic!

TheWeatherGirl1 · 11/11/2019 20:23

I'm really surprised at how early people are going to bed, although I'm saying this from my bed....

Usually in bed for 9pm, asleep for 10pm.
We have a 2yr old who can wake from 5.30 onwards and once or twice during the night.

This was not my life pre child.

firesong · 11/11/2019 20:23

Bed about midnight, asleep about 12.30. Up at 6.30/6.45. Naturally night time person and often not tired at bedtime, but very tired in the morning.

Potnoodledoo · 11/11/2019 20:24

Normally go to bed bout 11.But i can go through weeks with broken sleep. And then the insomnia kicks in.

I went to bed last night bout 8,woke at 5 but im knackered all day Kids go to bed bout 9.And im up at about 7.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/11/2019 20:24

I go to bed about 11.30, up at 6.45. According to my Fitbit I am asleep in about ten minutes. I know I should go earlier but like to have a proper evening after dimmer.

At weekends we tend to go to bed later, and lie in - no DC. Usually the cat comes in at normal weekday time, one of us gets up and feeds her, then comes back to bed, and we can lie until midday easily if we have nothing on. Dozing, chatting, radio on, tea, bacon sandwiches, and sex if the cat’s not plonked on us!

Poetryinaction · 11/11/2019 20:27

I go to bed between 10 and 11, asleep about an hour later. Up at 6.30am for work.
My kids are 5, 4 and 1 and the 4 year old struggles to sleep before 9pm. I would love more sleep.

bakedtattie23 · 11/11/2019 20:29

Bed anytime between 8.30pm and 10pm but I'll watch TV there as it's cosier than downstairs! Sleep between 10.30am and midnight depending on if that morning was one of DS2's 5am starts or not. I need 7 hours' sleep a night.

Celebelly · 11/11/2019 20:30

DD is 9mo and is asleep by 7pm. I usually try to be in bed by 10.30/11 but I'm not usually asleep till midnight or so as I watch stuff or read or listen to podcasts. DD wakes up for the day between 6.15 and 6.45 usually but DP takes her from 7pm to anywhere from 8.30-10am before he starts work so I can sleep a bit longer! Otherwise I would have to go sleep earlier for sure as DD still wakes for a feed about 3 or 4.

Dollymixture22 · 11/11/2019 20:30

Judy your weekends sound lovely. I have lost the ability to sleep in on the weekends. If I force myself I can sleep to 8am on a Sunday. But that’s with a lot of waking up from 6. For some reason I find
Getting out of bed easier at the weekends, Can’t think why😂.

Amazonfromkent · 11/11/2019 20:31

Bed 9.30, up 5.45. work full time, 46 y o. I physically cannot stay awake beyond 10 anymore Confused

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 11/11/2019 20:32

Pre DS rarely before midnight, and get up between seven and eight, ten at weekends. Now in bed around ten/ten thirty absolute latest, up between six and seven. There have been nights where I've gone to bed at nine thirty.

pleasestoprainingplease · 11/11/2019 20:32

2 kids here. One goes up at 7/7-30 & the other 8.30/9. Then I get a couple hours with DP before going to bed at 11pm. Up at 6 everyday. I'm always tired & yet I am a great sleeper. I can fall asleep in minutes.

managedmis · 11/11/2019 20:33

We get up at 6am, I'm asleep by 9.30pm most nights.

Onthebrink87 · 11/11/2019 20:35

Who cares! I'm only early 30's and I frequently go to bed at 9!! I'm a single mum of 3 young boys, I'm up at 6.30 to get everyone ready for school and myself for work and stick something in the slow cooker for dinner (when I remember!) Finish work, collect children from 3 different places, get back, do dinner (quick chat over dinner usually best and worst bits of the day) homework, I manage reading every other night, and stories at bed maybe 3 or 4 times a week (although eldest prefers to read independently) baths and teeth etc (usually small snack and milk before teeth) then they are usually in their beds by 7.30 and allowed to put a film on in bed (I know tvs in children's is frowned upon but im doing my best!) They have tv's off and lights out by 8.30/9 but have usually fallen to sleep by 8! I'm usually getting ready for bed by 9 as I'm just shattered all the time unless I get about 10 hours a night, if I can be asleep at 10 then I get 8ish and any less I can't function! Not at work and not as a parent - so this is what I have to do, people will always disagree but do what works for you, if ya can't please them, please ya damn self!

Pinkblueberry · 11/11/2019 20:38

11 does seem a bit late - that’s 3 and a half hours after your DC go to bed. My DS to bed at the same time but we’re in bed for 10, I think 2 hours is plenty of time to chill, you can watch a whole film in that time - up for 6 so that gives us a good 8 hours as long as DS sleeps well. I need it, especially as I often wake up in the night anyway so then it often turns into just 6 and a half or 7 hours. DH often works abroad, then I’m really knackered and go to sleep at about half 9.

Wibblewobble99 · 11/11/2019 20:42

Get those B12 in you! I’ve been on them for a month now. I still feel tired (work full time, mum to a toddler who thinks sleep is for the weak and a husband who works for the police so is only about half the week) but it’s mainly a mental tired a lot less of the alarming physical symptoms I was previously experiencing which I think can make you feel even more tired. Im also taking a multivitamin just to keep everything else topped up and to ensure optimum absorption of the B12. Hope you feel better soon.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/11/2019 20:42

dollymixture I love our weekend mornings. At this time of year we put the electric blanket on, and it’s a proper cosy nest!

LucileDuplessis · 11/11/2019 20:44

I'm generally asleep by 10.30/11pm. My alarm clock is set for 6.50am but I usually (not always) wake earlier than that - say around 6.15am.

ferretface · 11/11/2019 20:45

No kids but do a lot of exercise.

According to fitbit fall asleep anywhere between 10.30-11.30 (tend to make a move toward bed at about 1030 usually), alarm goes at 7 normally.

Bluewavescrashing · 11/11/2019 20:47

I'm in bed at 8.30 most nights and asleep by 9pm. I sleep until 7am (quick wee in the night). I do have health issues causing extreme fatigue though. At its worst I was sleeping 16 hours a day, so 10 hours doesn't seem that much now!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/11/2019 20:47

I love being in bed so I go to bed any time from 9pm. But I do watch stuff on my phone/study/draw etc so actual sleep is closer to 11pm.

Hellbentwellwent · 11/11/2019 20:48

Kids asleep but 8.30 and then generally I have work left over from the day to do so I’ll work a few hours... normal bedtime for me is 12.30 - 1.30, up by 7.30 most mornings and pretty knackered in general!

maddiemookins16mum · 11/11/2019 20:51

On average we’re asleep by 11am on weeknights and even then I shudder when I set my phone alarm and it says ‘alarm is set for 6 hrs and 50 minutes”.

Some nights like tonight I’ll go earlier, hope to be asleep by 9.30 tonight, DP is away with work and DD 15 will sort herself and be asleep herself before 10pm.

Samsamsuperman · 11/11/2019 20:58

Bed: 9
Sleep: 9.01

Fishcakey · 11/11/2019 21:04

Light out at ten but it takes me ages to get to sleep. If I had my way I would be in bed before nine every night but OH says it's unsociable. I get up at half past six and it never feels like enough sleep to me.
