Reported anyone close to them for drink driving....

OP posts:
pinksparkleunicorns · 11/11/2019 00:13

Not me personally. But my friends mum used to drink like a fish and did everything drunk. All day every day. School runs etc, the lot.

I don't believe they reported her themselves. But she had multiple DUIs, her license removed and went to rehab multiple times.

She died in a drink driving incident. Everyone's first question was 'was anyone ELSE killed.' They weren't.

It's potentially devastating, but for everyone's sake - including your friend you should report it.

Happyspud · 11/11/2019 00:14

I don’t either other than sympathy for your situation.

Weloveoptimus · 11/11/2019 00:14

It's an horrific situation as this is a person you love, potentially about to destroy someone else's life/family and you cannot sit back and ignore it.

TheQueef · 11/11/2019 00:15

Yep.
Used to live in a pub.

PrincessMargaret · 11/11/2019 00:16

I have sympathy for the innocent people on the road.

Iamnotagoddess · 11/11/2019 00:17

Not a blood relative.

My best friend.

Who has struggled against the odds.

OP posts:
PrincessMargaret · 11/11/2019 00:18

There is NO excuse for drunk driving.

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/11/2019 00:18

I don't get why Notbatman is getting bashed on here
OP what do you want from this thread ?
No sane person is going to say ignore it when it's clearly an ongoing issue

Iamnotagoddess · 11/11/2019 00:19

@PrincessMargaret

Where did I say it was?

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 11/11/2019 00:21

If you report her/him maybe they will get the kick up the arse they need and then they will ask for help

Until then, and by you not reporting, they will carry on until someone gets hurt or gets killed

pinksparkleunicorns · 11/11/2019 00:21

@Iamnotagoddess it sounds like your friend has had a hard time. But if they are drunk driving this is their no.1 problem. You need to be cruel to be kind. Thee must be a help line you can call for this

Iamnotagoddess · 11/11/2019 00:21

So your very best friend drink drives, you call the police knowing they will lose they’d job their livelihood?

Without trying to support that person first?

Yes it’s weighing heavily on my conscience clearly about others on the roads.

In the end I wrote to the DVLA stating the facts and they wrote a brilliant impartial letter to him saying they needed him to have a medical assessment at his GP.
I requested that My correspondence wasn't mentioned.
He posted his licence off and gave up driving.

Iamnotagoddess · 11/11/2019 00:24

Clearly I should have picked my friends wiser 30 years ago and foreseen and issues like @NotBatman.

Well done you. Bravo.

@pinksparkleunicorns.

Thank you- I am aware.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/11/2019 00:26

Would your friend respond to an ultimatum of stop drink driving or I will have report you, I can’t have it on my conscience if you killed someone or were hurt and I had done nothing?

Dilkhush · 11/11/2019 00:26

It's a tough love situation. If you don't report your friend they could lose more than their job, they could lose their life or be sent to prison.

A woman I used to know told me she drinks and drives but I've never seen her do it. If I do I'm reporting straight away. I've also taken keys off a drunk friend and run away with them. He was furious but I didn't care.

Weloveoptimus · 11/11/2019 00:27

Job or not.
Imagine the nightmare scenario that something happens soon.
Drink drivers are NOT thinking straight. They think they are fine and if you say anything they will hide it from you.

Sunflower20 · 11/11/2019 00:32

Haven't done but I would without hesitation.

namechange5009 · 11/11/2019 00:33

My DP phoned the police on me I was beyond the limit but.... no fucking excuse on it

I should say he is now an ex DP but not because of this, because of him reporting, I went and got help for my drinking

namechange5009 · 11/11/2019 00:35

Sorry that should say just over the limit not beyond the limit

MsPotterPepper · 11/11/2019 00:35

So your very best friend drink drives, you call the police knowing they will lose they’d job their livelihood?

Is it better they lose their job or a person loses their life?

TwatCat · 11/11/2019 00:37

No, I've never needed to but I would if I was aware of regular drink driving. I couldn't sit back and pretend it wasn't happening.

JoyceDivision · 11/11/2019 00:44

I haven't been in the scenario of some one close, but I have spotted drivers leaving / turning out from the golf club DH played at (only a local cheapy one, not a posh one!) and trying to drive in a sober fashion.... Really slow, exaggerated corner turning... I have rung police on them, police agreed it sounded like pretend sober driving and they would try and follow the car. They were already driving when I spotted them so I couldn't take their keys.
