Hello myself and my partner are visiting Newcastle this weekend - neither of us have been just trying to find out what’s worth seeing/not seeing?

We are late 20s - like cosy pubs (and not so cosy nightclubs), nice food and seeing a bit of the city and surrounding areas. We aren’t too interested in shopping!

Any help would be great - thank you!

Red Meze on Leazes Park road is a lovely turkish place, also Shisha Lounge has a restaurant at the back serving Lebanese food

I enjoyed the Stadium tour even though I hate football. The also do a high rise one where youhave a harness and do the high up bits

Travellinglass · 10/11/2019 16:47

Thanks I’ll check out those restaurants. As much as possible I’ll
Be avoiding St James’ Park lol

The pubs in the ouseburn are lovely, and it’s worth having a wander through jesmond dene

Travellinglass · 10/11/2019 16:51

Any pubs in particular? A friend mentioned the Cluny?

Walk on the quayside, visit the Baltic art gallery (which also has a bar and amazing restaurant) , visit the Hancock museum in haymarket. Tynemouth has beautiful coastline ,lovely restaurants and bars .
There is a castle keep in Newcastle town centre .
For xmas shopping there is intu eldon square with department stores and fenwick Christmas window which draws huge crowds every year.
Pubs and restaurants on every corner for all food types .
I think the xmas market has started as well .
Have a great trip in love living here .

Get the metro out to tynemouth on the Sunday morning - great market in the station. Walk down to the beach. There are bars and pubs on your way but try and eat at Riley’s fish shack by the beach.

Eat at dabbawhals, it’s ace.

Brownie79 · 10/11/2019 17:00

I second riley's !

Another vote for the Ouseburn " scene" ,free trade is a blast from the past, The Tyne bar often has live music on, Cluny is too studenty for me but you might like it. Pitcher and piano further up the Tyne has amazing views. I would avoid the Bigg market and the so called diamond strip.

furrybadger · 10/11/2019 17:26

Lola jeans is amazing for burgers, elder and wolf is also very nice, have a look on Instagram at toonfatladies, they do food reviews in Newcastle that’ll give you soon ideas of places to eat and bars etc ☺️

caravanette · 10/11/2019 17:59

Biscuit Factory art gallery

Doodoobear · 10/11/2019 18:04

The Castle was great, as well as the life centre, and the free museum - amazing resource, you can donate instead of an entry fee and it was well worth the £5 each suggested donation for me and DD.
The Jam Jar restaurant (in Jesmond I think?) Had the most amazing burgers and a great atmosphere too!
Enjoy!

fairgame84 · 10/11/2019 18:06

Another vote for castle keep.

The Tyne Bar was our favourite pub when we were students. There are some nice places for brunch in Heaton - Butterfly Cabinet is great. You could go for a walk in Jesmond Dene? Go to the Baltic or the Laing gallery, or the Hancock museum? See Fenwick's Christmas window, if it's up? Get the Metro to Tynemouth? Or Wallsend and admire the Latin signage?

Oneborneverydecade · 10/11/2019 18:10

No recommendations but I visited NC last weekend for the first time and really liked it. We're definitely going to go back again soon with our kids.
My favourite thing was the super chatty taxi driver and the girls pouring out of the clubs in next to nothing despite the downpours was a bit of an eye opener

PotteringAlong · 10/11/2019 18:12

Fenwicks window Christmas window opened this week!

riotlady · 10/11/2019 18:16

Third vote for getting metro out to Tynemouth and going to Riley’s!

siriusblackthemischieviouscat · 10/11/2019 18:21

I took my children to the discovery museum which is free (donations) and I really enjoyed it. Well worth spending an hour to see the through the ages exhibition. I need to go back as my kids were getting bored by then.

Allards Lounge Tynemouth
Exhibition Park

Turquoisetamborine · 10/11/2019 18:32

Have a look at New Girl in Toon on insta. She's a southerner who moved here and loves her life here. She goes a over and has loads of great recommendations.

Jumblebee · 10/11/2019 18:51

Just been to Dabbawhal's today and the food is amazing. And not very expensive either.

The Christmas Market is in the process of being set up, not sure if it will be open by the weekend though. Fenwicks window is good, as is their Christmas section (it's like Santa's grotto!)
