Koala Bear confusion...

About 10 years ago, I was in conversation with a friend and mentioned that I love koala bears. Ever since then, my friend has bought me polar bear gifts for Christmas, Birthdays and gifts from holidays. I have polar bear jewellery, tea towels, mugs, ornaments and soft toys.
After 10 years, do I tell her that it's actually koala bears that I like.. not polar bears? Would this offend her? I just want the gifts to stop...I don't even want koala gifts!!

I have a huge gum tree in my front yard. Guess where the little bastards like to congregate? The possums are worse though, running across the roof at night.

I have friends on the central coast who are packed and ready to go. Stay safe fellow Australians- and check the warnings for Tuesday- it’s going to be brutal.

i live surrounded by the stinky, grumpy little pricks

Yes, the noise is loud and grunty and sounds quite scary coming from the dark bush behind your house.

jcurve · 10/11/2019 11:26

Koala mating noises are nowhere near as hideous as foxes. Foxes are evil pricks as well.

Thanks (not really) to whoever brought up Don Spencer, I’m going to spend my day humming “Please don’t call me a koala bear, cause I’m not a bear at all” followed by Peter Combe’s “Toffee apple”. Baby Shark has nothing on late 80s Australians children’s song writers.

GummyGoddess · 10/11/2019 12:43

@Pardonwhat male ducks are evil little gits as well.

Cantbelieveit101 · 11/11/2019 03:00

Koalas need all the help they can get right now.
A fire just destroyed a sanctuary with about 350 of them in the area....

Jozen · 11/11/2019 05:39

Just coming back to this thread to send good luck to my Aussie "neighbours" who've commented on here.
We've got a hell of day coming tomorrow on the east coast with catastrophic fire conditions, here's hoping we all get through it safely (humans and animals).
Good luck everybody, stay safe.

They are cute when you have a photo with them, and they only exist in captivity in WA so those of you moaning move west. Then you can have quokkas.

As for noises, I give giant tortoises procreating, the buggers have no shame and can be heard miles away.

Being serious for a while, thought to all of you experiencing the fires. I wish you a freak snowstorm.

Casander · 11/11/2019 08:25

@jcurve Oh god, I'm going to be singing "Toffee Apple nice and licky, one for Judy, one for Mickey" all day nowBlushConfused

TabbyMumz · 11/11/2019 09:28

Cant you start putting loads of pictures of koala bears up on Facebook? I know someone who loves owls. Every day she puts up pictures of them.

SoupDragon · 11/11/2019 09:30

I only opened this thread to make a snarky comment about them not being bears and have sniggered my way through it instead 😂

TabbyMumz · 11/11/2019 09:54

This is like slippergate in our house. dh was in hospital. He never wears slippers so didn't have any, but actually just liked putting his trainers on. In laws thought I was a bad wife for not supplying him with slippers. I kid you not, they ALL bought him slippers. Every time I visited, there was a different pair there. They kept changing them and buying more. It became a bit of a family joke between me, him and the kids. We all said we'd get him slippers for evermore for his birthday and Christmas. His Sister came visiting one day recently and he was sat there in just socks, which is what he prefers at home, and she was like "where's your slippers?". I had to walk out the room otherwise I'd have burst out laughing.

HoppingPavlova · 11/11/2019 10:05

Yeah, stinky, noisy buggers but I’m always disproportionately sad when I see one as roadkill. Completely desensitised to roo’s but koala’s always get me down, no idea why.

Very sad that a good proportion are currently going up in flames and habitats completely destroyedSad. Stinky, noisy buggers just don’t deserve that.

ObtuseTriangle · 11/11/2019 10:21

I saw this clip the other day, I like Koalas.

We are in Northern NSW about 30km from the Nimbin fires, dreading what the hot temps and winds bring tomorrow. Feel really sad for all the wildlife affected.

BubblyWater · 11/11/2019 13:33

@ObtuseTriangle I watched the YouTube clip of the koala being given water after Black Saturday earlier. So terribly sad. Stay safe tomorrow everyone

99bb · 12/11/2019 04:37

I think I’d treasure the polar bear collection for the comedy value

IAmNotAWitch · 12/11/2019 05:48

Stinky, noisy buggers just don’t deserve that No they did not.

Though I can think of some thick dickheads in Canberra who I wouldn't weep for.

It's wombats for me. I like wombats. I hate to see them as roadkill.

AloneLonelyLoner · 12/11/2019 21:24

Stop! Just stop! Koalas have chlamydia???!!!

Wtaf ? What fresh hell is this.

Condoms with those wee bastards from now on.
