To splash out on top price theatre tickets?

I want to go to London to see Book of Mormon. The range of ticket price is huge! I love musicals and would rather spend money and enjoy the show than go budget and not see or hear anything.
But are the top prices really worth it? Are the mid range tickets just as good? Would like advice from others who have been to see it please!

i tend to go for middle price tickets as you generally get decent seats to see the show, look at what seats the top price and middle price ones are offering and if middle still a good deal the money you save will get you a nice treat

DonKeyshot · 09/11/2019 16:45

I haven't seen that show but he front rows of the stalls are generally the best seats. However, you can get as a good a view from the front rows of the dress circle which can be a little less expensive.

I'd always shell out for the best possible seats, particularly in a large venue.

raspberryrippleicecream · 09/11/2019 16:50

I had mid price seats for this show, can't remember exactly where but they were fine!

Betty193 · 09/11/2019 16:59

Look at www.theatremonkey.co.uk. It gives reviews for the seats and lets you know which are overpriced.

Effiedg · 09/11/2019 17:03

I've seen twice and had mid price tickets. They're fine.

ShinyMe · 09/11/2019 17:08

Seconded for Theatremonkey. You really don't need to splash out on the 'best' seats.

I never sit in the top price seats, because I can't afford them. But I'd never sit in the cheapest either - I'm too old to do the whole neck-craning, behind-a-pillar, back of the gods thing any more. Something in the middle is fine.

I'd disagree with the PP who says front of the dress circle will be cheaper though, that's very unusual. That's usually classed as the top price premium area.

Theatremonkey is great for pointing out potential bargain seats.

Witchend · 09/11/2019 17:39

We normally go for the cheap ones way up in the gods. Always enjoy it.

gingergiraffe · 09/11/2019 18:47

We found really good seats in the stalls at our local theatre. Only £25 each as supposed to around £85 but they were odd separate seats which are probably difficult to fill but in limited supply. Didn’t know about this before but not at all worried about sitting separately but it would not suit anyone with younger children. Lion King, so very excited.

WingingWonder · 09/11/2019 18:58

I LOVE this show but I’m sure you know- it’s totally outrageous ...
I’d go for mid level tickets- it’s a fab show but you’re now better being right at the front

FizzyPink · 09/11/2019 19:03

I entered the lottery for Book of Mormon on a whim and won front row seats for £20. I’m guessing they don’t deem these great seats but I loved being so close. Saying that I’ve seen a lot of shows up in the heavens and it’s been absolutely fine.

Isithometimeyet0987 · 09/11/2019 19:11

I always pay for good seats to the theatre nothing worse than bad seats.

Snoopdogsbitch · 09/11/2019 19:12

Been at this theatre before ( not this show) and mid price was great. I was at SIX last night - different theatre obviously- and got mid price, side/ back of dress circle ( after booking too late for front of dress circle) and it was excellent and the better seats would not have been worth an extra £40.

afternoonspray · 09/11/2019 19:13

We went on mid price tickets. Brilliant view. Saw and heard everything. It's a fantastic show and you don't need to spend £££ to enjoy it.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2019 19:21

For some shows, it may be worth splashing out - we saw it in Manchester, no idea what price tickets, iirc second row of dress circle. It's a 'big' show, I wouldn't have thought you'd have any difficulty seeing or hearing from any position - certainly not the latter, I'm sure they're all using mics.

You said 'go to London' - it looks like it's on tour next year to Bristol and Birmingham, you might get prime seats for significantly less at one of those, if you're in midlands or southwest.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/11/2019 19:28

Sorry, meant to say, it really is a matter of you pays your money and makes your choice. We've decided that unless there's something extra special we'd rather go to half a dozen shows (inc stage to screen) at our local theatre than spend the same on one expensive show.

Celeriacacaca · 09/11/2019 19:34

I've been twice and paid £20 both times for great seats in the circle. Try Londonboxoffice.com
Great show but I hope you're not easily shocked.

NotSorry · 09/11/2019 19:57

There’s a website called theatre seats (I think!) and people post reviews of the seat - very helpful

Userzzzzz · 09/11/2019 19:58

It can really depend on the show and the theatre. I’m quite happy with really cheap seats for the ballet because you still see formations etc from a distance and get something a bit different. I’ve done cheap seats for musicals which again I think is fine if the music is the primary reason for going. I wouldn’t do cheap seats for plays as I think it’s harder to see the actors’ faces and be immersed.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 09/11/2019 20:01

Definitely check theatre monkey! Though I always think if you’re going to spend a fair amount on a theatre ticket anyway it’s worth spending the extra £20 or so to get a really decent seat.

GorkyMcPorky · 09/11/2019 20:03

I saw this for a tenner in Manchester last summer. I sat on my own because I was away with work for the night. Best bargain I've ever had - great show!

cardibach · 09/11/2019 20:05

I always buy the cheapest ones which aren’t restricted view. Theatres are well designed and sound systems are good. I don’t feel I’ve missed out and I’ve seen more shows. In fact when I’ve occasionally had to buy a more expensive ticket I’ve resented it and not felt it was good value.

MindatWork · 09/11/2019 20:08

Hi OP, there’s another really good site called Seatplan that I use when booking tickets - it’s like theatremonkey but people post photos so you can see the view from each seat.

Here’s the page for Book of Mormon: seatplan.com/london/prince-of-wales-theatre/

caz123456 · 09/11/2019 20:16

Does anyone know if there's a way to get cheaper tickets to the Manchester theatre's please? All the sites I look at are geared towards London.

eenymeenymineymo · 09/11/2019 20:16

I saw this show in London earlier this year, was a real treat.
Partly because I was travelling by myself I wanted the best seats I could afford - so ended up choosing G22 in the stalls & it was perfect.
Agree with other pp's to check SeatMonkey & the other web link above to check out the views from your chosen seats too

BackforGood · 09/11/2019 20:27

I love musicals and would rather spend money and enjoy the show than go budget and not see or hear anything

Well, obviously no-one wants to not be able to see or hear anything, but that just isn't the case in any theatre I've ever been in.

I always go for the cheapest seats. I'd rather pay the cheapest price and see 5 times as many shows in a year. I've never not been able to hear anything and never not been able to see anything - even where the salesperson has tried to say it is 'restricted view'
Really can't see the point of paying £70 to see a show if you can see the same show for £18 Confused
