To splash out on top price theatre tickets?

I want to go to London to see Book of Mormon. The range of ticket price is huge! I love musicals and would rather spend money and enjoy the show than go budget and not see or hear anything.
But are the top prices really worth it? Are the mid range tickets just as good? Would like advice from others who have been to see it please!

We've seen it twice and sat in the mid-price seats once and in the cheapest once. We found no difference between the two, although may just have been lucky with where we were sat! Fantastic show though, laughed so much my stomach ached Grin

Another fan of the cheap seats. I do a lot of theatre, and you can always see, hear and feel the ambiance regardless of the seat price.

I think there’s a bit of reverse snobbery going on on this thread. Obviously the show/play that you see if you’re sat in cheap seats is the same show/play everyone else sees, but if you’re sat in fantastic seats and have a clear view of the whole stage, are close enough to really see the expressions on the actors faces, and are in a spot where the acoustics are clearest it does improve the experience. I also go to the theatre a lot, and sit in a variety of differently priced seats. While the price doesn’t necessarily correlate with the quality of the seat, a decent seat does make it more enjoyable.

Though to be fair the tourists in the expensive seats are a lot more badly behaved than the theatre buffs up in the gods, which does tend to detract from things, but it would derail the thread if we get into that!

Ive been twice both on lottery tickets so £20. First time front row and excellent seats. Second time were E stalls in the middle so too price tickets. Seemed great view until couple in front of me swapped places. He was really tall and i couldnt see a thing.. ive been back of dress circle for an event at that theatre and the seats have a great view.

Seatplanner is much better site foe seat reviews than theatre monkey

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 09/11/2019 21:57

Actually thinking about it it’s probably not reverse snobbery, it’s just the normal kind of snobbery Grin

OP I'm going on Monday to see Book of Mormon (can't wait!!) and paid about £50 for front row in the circle - I use seatplan.com which reviews the actual seats and often has pictures so you can tell how much you're going to be able to see

Everyone is different and has their preferred luxuries and personally I'd happily spend £100+ on a theatre ticket because I just think it's the most marvellous experience

I've seen Book of Mormon 3 times, first time I remember I was sat way up in the dress circle and it felt so vertical, like I was toppling forwards! But it didn't affect my enjoyment of the show. The second time I went we sat in the stalls in much better seats but in all honesty I don't remember enjoying one performance more than the other. The 3rd time I went was Broadway.

Hope you enjoy the show!!

BelgianWhistles · 09/11/2019 22:30

I’ve seen it twice- once in the expensive seats at the front and once in the cheapest ones in the very back row. Honestly, it made no difference to my enjoyment. The theatre is laid out brilliantly, so even right at the back you get a great view. I plan to see it a third time and will book the cheap seats again.

OverByYer · 09/11/2019 22:36

I always prefer to pay a bit more and get the nest seats in my budget

CharlieCoCo · 09/11/2019 22:41

Front row of the stalls aren’t the best. In some places you can’t see then back of the stage as you are very low down so miss things.

bruffin · 09/11/2019 22:50

Front row of stalls are great for Book of Mormon. Some theatres not great definitely but BOM the seats are excellent.

Comefromaway · 09/11/2019 23:00

I’m very picky about my seats plus dh has vertigo. However I almost never pay top price.

For Mormon we sat just under half way back in the circle. The view was brilliant. If you book far enough ahead it’s often good to get the first row of cheaper seats and know the row in front of you paid more. Theatremonkey and Seat Plan are really good websites.

The one thing to avoid specifically with Mormon in London is that if you sit somewhere where the overhang obscures the very top of the stage then you don’t see the spinning Jesus (but it’s a tiny moment) also some seats at the very side you miss some stuff.

Re Manchester - ATG members card gives discounts for some performances. Sometimes they will sell off odd unsold seats cheaper a day or two before the performance. They did that for Mormon on tour. A lady sitting next to me in the stalls got her seat for £20 because it was a single left on its own.

Rowennaravenclaw · 09/11/2019 23:21

Wow thanks for all the tips and recommendations! I’ll defuinitely check those websites. Excited!
