The excitement of telling close friends/ family.
The scans.
The kicks.
Feeling really close to your partner as he rubs your bump.
There's lots of not very nice bits but I think the above makes it worth it

NaviSprite · 09/11/2019 13:16

Not too many highlights as my first pregnancy was twins so it was constant pain and heartburn/HG 😂

Feeling them move was lovely and DD would always stop kicking whenever DH put his hand on to feel, without fail - I tried to make it a nice reason for him, said he calmed her but she just didn’t seem to like his hand on my stomach!

Honestly for me the best part of pregnancy was not being pregnant anymore after they’d been born Grin

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 09/11/2019 13:17

You get a baby at the end.

Jealous of the glow... I looked like shit throughout. My already very thick hair became thicker and dull and just unmanageable then promptly fell out after i gave birth. My skin went to pot and i looked constantly tired.

DC3dilemma · 09/11/2019 13:19

Now that I have 3, I can look back and see that the best thing about it is carrying your baby around with you and actually having your arms free! The 4th trimester is so tough by comparison -you are essentially doing the same thing for them (holding close, constant food supply etc) without the built in mechanisms! Then you really know exhaustion...

Other than that:

Feeling them move
The utter excitement of who they’ll be when they emerge
I loved having an enormo tummy to rest my arms on
Personally, I had better hair and skin (no oiliness or acne)
No periods
Being forced to slow down and just do the necessary
People are generally kinder and chattier when you go about life with a pregnant tum
Maternity clothes -so comfy
Being warmer than usual -I’m currently extending that by trying to continue to breast feed through one more winter. Baby3 is now a proto-toddler at 14 months. I’m normally cold to my bones in the far north where I live so the hormone induced central heating of pregnancy and breast feeding is amazing.

Downsides were fewer:
Constipation
Reflux
Nausea
Swollen ankles and feet
Unfightable tiredness at times
Worry about labour/baby’s health and wellbeing

Lying in the bath watching my tummy contort and limbs sticking out, baby joyfully moving around.

Wondering how, on gods green earth I was going to get out of the bath.

That feeling of utter utter elation that soon, so soon I would at last hold my desperately wanted, waited for miracle in my arms and look into their face. It’s REALLY happening.

I got that feeling every moment after about 22 weeks, the terror, stress, fear, dread and desperation just lifted, just went. That was a relief.

Loved the anticipation.

@RolytheRhino Hahahaha thank you for the tip, although at 38 weeks I'm thinking that ship may have sailed 🙈 definitely 2020's problem!!

RolytheRhino · 09/11/2019 13:44

@ELM8 Ah well, here's hoping your skin is more elastic than mine!

Good luck with the birth. Smile

ELM8 · 09/11/2019 13:45

@RolytheRhino I'll keep my fingers crossed.. swimming costumes are back in now anyway right ConfusedGrin

Thank you!!

PooWillyBumBum · 09/11/2019 13:47

I like feeling the baby kick and DH doing all the housework.

I’ve been tracking what I eat though. I neither want health problems in pregnancy or a double chin to contend with post partum!

priceofprogress · 09/11/2019 13:47

All of it!

Walking around with a huge belly. So fun to wear maternity clothes and people are so nice to you!

Feeling them move, being two people in one body for a bit. Just absolutely loving and adoring this person you’re growing. Always feeling like you have company in a weird way!

Licence to nap as much as you want to and can get away with.

Just the sheer excitement. Honestly, it’s the best thing ever. I can’t believe how much I adore pregnancy.

priceofprogress · 09/11/2019 13:49

And the closeness with your partner. Having this shared project, so to speak. The excitement you share, both loving this new person so very much, all of the excitement of seeing them together on a scan, baby item shopping, getting broody over little socks and hats together. I’ve never felt closer or more connected to DH. I still can’t believe we’re doing this and we made a separate person out of our ‘love’ (sex haha).

Loved telling my young cousin there's a baby growing in my tummy ❤️

Feeling baby move is my favourite

spice3 · 09/11/2019 20:59

Another vote for feeling baby move.

And the fact that people stop to let you cross the road, move for you on buses etc etc but that doesn't really compare to the first one 😂

mawof3soontobe · 09/11/2019 21:03

The labour... I know, I'm weird. Its just such an all consuming, timestopping period where nothing else in the world moves apart from what's going on in the little room you're in. I got such an incredible rush from the pain and the work you are putting into meeting that little tiny person!

PurpleFlower1983 · 09/11/2019 21:16

Feeling the kicks and movements, seeing the heartbeat for the first time and moving on the scan, people being generally nicer to you, lots of things!

honeylulu · 09/11/2019 21:20

Pregnancy sex and orgasms, best I've ever had. Can't believe no one has said that yet.

DramaAlpaca · 09/11/2019 21:21

I enjoyed the brief bit of glowing I did when pregnant with DC1. Apart from that the best bit is when it's all over & I'm holding the baby at last. I was so sick most of the time when pregnant that I didn't enjoy it much.

TakeMe2Insanity · 09/11/2019 21:23

Getting a baby at the end (4 miscarriages in row).

Allegorical · 09/11/2019 21:27

The kicking. I just loved it. Even when it hurt.

Not having to hold my tummy in. Embracing my bump and wearing figure hugging dresses I could never have worn Pre pregnancy.

Eating all of the food.

DefConOne · 09/11/2019 21:32

Having a baby at the end. Appreciating what it’s like to no longer be pregnant when it’s over.

Gennz18 · 09/11/2019 21:33

Getting a baby at the end.

That’s it.

The good thing about having hyperemesis and SPD is that anything is preferable to being pregnant, even recovering from a c-section & having zero sleep.

Miljea · 09/11/2019 21:34

Best bits? It being over 😂

iolaus · 09/11/2019 21:34

I was calmer and less bitchy in the main

Mumtotwo82 · 09/11/2019 21:35

Having amazing lush thick hair and never feeling the cold (really the opposite of what I have being non pregnant.) Feeling the baby move is just the best though ☺️
