To think my neighbour was being a cheeky bitch ?

So my neighbour from down the street who I've never met, but know who she is just knocked on my door and said to me 'you've got rats'. I was a bit shocked and was like excuse me? She said they are like the size of cats but u have rats. I just wanted to let u know as my daughter in law mentioned u were pregnant and thought be best to tell you.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but we have no outbuildings. No sheds. Nothing. Our garden is only grass with fences round for the dogs to be kept secure in garden. The driveway is all dig out completely with just type 1 stones down really for driveway being laid. So how can I have the rats ?

She continued to tell me her and her son seen them come from my garden over the street to the other houses. I politely pointed out that next door (at the back of my fence) have two pigeon sheds with tons of pigeons no joke, so isn't it more likely them? Her response was 'could be but they were seen in your driveway'. She also told me she'd phoned the council.

I'm going to phone the council on Monday as well obviously as I don't want that in the street - but I just found it so cheeky she came to my door but not the owners of the two pigeon sheds ? And the garden full of trees / shrubs and so forth ....

Really, this is all you have to get worked up about?

Myneighboursnorlax · 08/11/2019 17:28

Sounds like she was just trying to do you a favour by letting you know as she knows you’re pregnant

What a cheeky bitch warning you about rats especially because you are pregnant! Can't even. The balls on her. Unbelievable. Log it with everyone and cancel the cheque.

On a serious note. They saw them coming from your garden. Not their job to investigate where did they originate from.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 08/11/2019 17:30

Surely you would like to know this and she's doing you a favour. Rats carry diseases.

CalmFizz · 08/11/2019 17:30

I don’t think she’s implying you own the rats, but that rats are on your property.

She was trying to pass it on incase you weren’t aware of it, out of concern for your health/health of unborn baby.

Apolloanddaphne · 08/11/2019 17:31

She is just telling you she has seen some bigs rats around your house and wants you to be aware because you are pregnant. They are probably being attracted by the pigeon lofts.

Ariadnepersephonecloud · 08/11/2019 17:31

I think she was trying to be helpful, I also think you're right and they are more likely to come from next door. Either way it's better you know!

RavenLG · 08/11/2019 17:31

It sounds like she was trying to be helpful. She was more than likely misinformed, unless there is a history of her being batty then just take it at face vale ( and keep an eye out for rats)

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 08/11/2019 17:31

For future references. Normal person would say
"Thank you. I haven't realised they are actually crossing over my property. Might be because of the pigeon huts in the other garden. When council comes, I will tell them."

BradTomby · 08/11/2019 17:32

Cor what a cheeky bitch or maybe she was trying to be helpful. I would take it as the later myself.

f83mx · 08/11/2019 17:34

She was trying to help.... hardly CF. ... but yeah they’ll be after the pigeon feed next door...

Expressedways · 08/11/2019 17:35

I think you’re being overly defensive. It sounds like her and her family have seen rats on your property and she was letting you know and also reporting to the council pest control which is entirely appropriate. It doesn’t sound like she was blaming you in any way for the presence of the rats! Your plan to call the council on Monday is good- they will investigate and if it’s the pigeon shed then they will figure that out. My parents had similar and it turns out they were coming from the compost heap of the garden that backs on to theirs. I hope you thanked the neighbour for letting you know; nothing in your OP suggests she’s in anyway a cheeky bitch, that’s a very bizarre conclusion.

RightEarlobeBreath · 08/11/2019 17:35

Yabu. She saw them in your garden so she told you.

WorraLiberty · 08/11/2019 17:35

How very dare she tell you she saw rats on your property.

Go knock on her door and tell her she's dead to you now.

EmmiJay · 08/11/2019 17:35

I bet it was her tone that got your back up. Grin If she does call the council its fine, let them investigate and do what they need to do.

DeliberatelyAwkward · 08/11/2019 17:36

I think you should put it on facebook

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 08/11/2019 17:40

Yabu

Batshittery · 08/11/2019 17:40

Why is she a cheeky bitch? She saw rats leaving your garden - came to inform you. End of story

TheLovelyWoo · 08/11/2019 17:43

Yes, YABVU. Sounds like she was trying to help. She wasn't suggesting you bred them - it's not an insult to be told about them.

(Sister and I have spent 3 weeks staying in aunt's house to support her after bad fall. We put out fat balls in her beautiful, tidy garden for birds and hey presto - family of 6 rats arrived to eat the crumbs. They're everywhere. Just a fact of life.)

kenandbarbie · 08/11/2019 17:46

Are you offended because she might think you're dirty or something? I don't really get why you think she's a cf, she was trying to warn you.

sauvignonblancplz · 08/11/2019 17:49

Huh? Really? Really? Confused

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 17:49

No probs guys! Did think it was hormones it was the way she insinuated that it was our house - and the tone she used. And very timely considering I phoned the council cos her upstairs neighbours dog shit on my door step the other week and I reported that (cos that is gross) ! I'll go back in my cave now and keep close eye on the rats - hopefully pest control comes out and gets it sorted 😂😂

Thanks @EmmiJay it was the tone. She arrived at my door and basically said 'you've got rats btw' and started to walked away. It was only when I tried to make a conversation and investigate she said the rest. Was just a bit random in her approach

@SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated I did say thanks.... just to note! I said it about 5 times 😂
