To think my neighbour was being a cheeky bitch ?

So my neighbour from down the street who I've never met, but know who she is just knocked on my door and said to me 'you've got rats'. I was a bit shocked and was like excuse me? She said they are like the size of cats but u have rats. I just wanted to let u know as my daughter in law mentioned u were pregnant and thought be best to tell you.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but we have no outbuildings. No sheds. Nothing. Our garden is only grass with fences round for the dogs to be kept secure in garden. The driveway is all dig out completely with just type 1 stones down really for driveway being laid. So how can I have the rats ?

She continued to tell me her and her son seen them come from my garden over the street to the other houses. I politely pointed out that next door (at the back of my fence) have two pigeon sheds with tons of pigeons no joke, so isn't it more likely them? Her response was 'could be but they were seen in your driveway'. She also told me she'd phoned the council.

I'm going to phone the council on Monday as well obviously as I don't want that in the street - but I just found it so cheeky she came to my door but not the owners of the two pigeon sheds ? And the garden full of trees / shrubs and so forth ....

@RavenLG history of being batty. I stay back from that end of the street. Police always at the door, her son hit a woman over the head with a golf club a few months back etc etc ....

How do I request a thread to be deleted, as now I feel slightly bad!

I'm glad she told me but it was more the tone of blaming them on me... and the fact she didn't greet me or say hello she said 'you've got rats' and walked away from the door but of course I sort of wanted to know the ins and outs of where they have been seen and the history of the property as I've only been here 2 years in this street. I'm glad I know, and I will be phoning environmental health as well just to confirm there has been rats seen in and around the property.

It is likely they are sourcing the food from the pigeon huts next door... but it was just like this wasn't considered, it could only have been us kind of thing. I wouldn't ever go to someone's door and say 'you've got rats and they are coming from your drive into the other side of the street' but I guess everyone has different approaches.

Anyways, so how do I get this deleted as I do feel hormonal and stupid now, probably best it is deleted

Oh that’s a bit easy to understand , the woman from the bad side of the street dared to cross over and talk to you with her crass , Poorly brought up manners. Her with all them social issues.
How dare she !

Zaphodsotherhead · 08/11/2019 18:04

You had rats in your garden?

What sort of dogs do you have? Because they clearly aren't doing their job...

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 08/11/2019 18:04

"Rats the size of cats".. or possibly just actual cats?

dreichwinter · 08/11/2019 18:05

Okay I think you have got the point that you are being totally unreasonable and the "cheeky bitch" was actually being helpful because you were pregnant.

MissEliza · 08/11/2019 18:05

OMG it's because people who get all defensive about having rats refuse to deal with them that people who try to do the right thing find they keep coming back. Don't take it so personally.

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:06

@Zaphodsotherhead the driveway she said she seen them. We have a small pug and French bulldog. I haven't yet seen the rats, but I guess I was never looking or expecting rats. The street has a lot of cats in it, if I did see one I'd probably just think it was a cat

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:06

@Aloe6 I've seen worse on here 😂

My crystal ball says woman down the road has 'issue' with your bird fancying neighbour, so she decides to stir up trouble by dropping drama in the next property. In reality we all have rats living close to us, and birds do attract rodents (my parents used to have aviaries when I was a kid, and seed/ corn is a McDonald's drive through to a mouse or rat). Whatever her motivation, if you have a rodent issue then you will see the droppings and that smell is hideous. Rats are not very quiet either so the scratching and chewing sounds are hard to miss. You can rodent-proof your house by blocking up holes in cupboards/ skirting/ floor boards with wire-wool as they hate the stuff. Some people lay poison but if rat dies under floor boards, that is not a fun smell. Perhaps you could mention it to the bird hobbyist next door, and keep an open mind about your neighbour over the road.

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:07

@dreichwinter agreed!

Hardly cheeky Confused

Why are you taking it so personal?

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:08

@MissEliza definitely going to help her do something about it. She mentioned that it would be good for me to phone when I said I would - as she said the more that report they might appear quicker to do something. I'm not dismissing the situation

Doesn't sound like she did it to be helpful, from what you say. I would also be annoyed if she has told the council that the rats are coming from your place in particular. For all she knows when she has seen them going from your house over to her side, they might be on their way home ;)

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:10

@scoobydoo1971 I've spoken to the neighbour next to me so I was planning to just give them a heads up in the morning what I've been told. He might already know and has seen them. He has had the pigeons for years apparently so he could well know. Thanks for the advice about the house!

I haven't seen any dropping or heard any noises to indicate rats as yet - but will be keeping an eye on it from now in case

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:12

@Staffy1 she told me when I mentioned next door pigeons could it be them she told me they were seen coming out of my driveway so it's me that had them - I think that's why I was slightly shocked to say the least. And she said that's what she told the council.

Lol, could be! There are various sheds and out buildings and long grass in our street from unkept gardens. The whole street could be absolutely littered - but as our driveway is stripped back and sitting completely bare and empty they are being spotted easier. No idea !

Is your neighbour Dr Seuss?

I just found it so cheeky she came to my door but not the owners of the two pigeon sheds ?
Did you? Why? How do you know she has not also knocked at pigeon house door?

Cant see what is cheeky, or bitchy come to that, about a neighbour reporting the facts to you as she witnessed them, out of concern for your welfare.

Are you usually so quick to take offence where none is given?

IWorkAtTheCheescakeFactory · 08/11/2019 18:13

You should put a sign on your door saying “please do not inform me of disease carrying vermin on my property. It’s far too neighbourly for my liking and is rather not know.”

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:14

@IWorkAtTheCheescakeFactory noted and on it!

I am intrigued - off subject! Our council doesn't do pest control anymore - I rang to tell them when staying elsewhere in our county that dh had spotted a dead rat outside the shop opposite - they suggested we contact the shop's head office as they don't do pest control any more or we could pay for private pest controller ourselves! They wont even come out if you pay them - you have to go private -Now tell me, why do you think we have an increase in rodents???

Itsallpetetong · 08/11/2019 18:17

You can hit the report bit on the top of your own thread and ask for it to be deleted op

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:19

@mumwon that's a strange one but very interesting. Maybe that's why she's told us? Maybe she has been advised of this and then because when I phone I'll be told the same I'll have to go private and pay (I'll probably get jumped on for this comment too I'd imagine).... I honestly haven't seen any rats and I'm always in and out with the dogs for walks and for them to go to the toilet in the back garden.

lovelyannie · 08/11/2019 18:19

Thanks @Itsallpetetong I've now done that, thanks again - as its all went a bit like your username 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

Maybe she thought your dogs were rats?
