Back Boris, say senior Labour MPs

Labour voters, what do you think of this?? Shock

"We should all get behind the Tories to save this country
IAN AUSTIN

7 NOVEMBER 2019 • 9:26PM

I am worried that if Boris Johnson does not get a majority, Corbyn will get into No 10

Being a Member of Parliament is a huge privilege, but representing the place you are from and the people that you grew up with is the greatest honour of all. I love Dudley, and will never be able to thank local people enough for giving me what I think has been the best job in the world.

Leaving the Labour Party in February was a huge wrench, and I could never have dreamt I’d be telling people to vote Conservative – but I always tell local people the truth, and could never ask them to make Jeremy Corbyn prime minister.

I was taught important values growing up in Dudley. Fairness and playing by the rules. What’s right and what’s wrong. Basic decent British values.

My dad was a Jewish refugee from the Holocaust. His mum and sisters were murdered by the Nazis. He taught me always to stand up to racism and prejudice. I have done that all my life, and I could not stand by as the Labour Party has been poisoned by racism, extremism and intolerance under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

I am appalled and ashamed that a party that has had such a proud tradition of fighting racism has caused huge offence and distress to the Jewish community. I regard myself as proper, decent, traditional Labour – but I think he is completely unfit to lead our country.

He and people like John McDonnell have spent decades working with and supporting all sorts of extremists, and in some cases terrorists. They can’t be trusted with our defence or security and would undermine our democratic institutions. I do not believe Jeremy Corbyn loves this country.

He and the people around him always seem to back our country’s enemies – whether that’s the IRA when they were murdering people in shopping centres, hotels and pubs, terrorist groups like Hamas and Hizbollah, or even parroting Putin’s propaganda when he tried to murder people here in Britain.

Finally, I think their economic plans would put businesses, investment and jobs at risk and it is impossible to take their Brexit policy seriously. It is a fantasy to think Jeremy Corbyn could negotiate a good deal.

Until this year, I have only ever voted Labour, so it has really come to something when someone like me says traditional decent patriotic Labour voters should vote for Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party this time. This has been a very difficult decision to take. There are good people and lifelong friends of mine in the Labour Party, but the truth is that only one of two people can be prime minister on December 13.

In the end, either Jeremy Corbyn or Boris Johnson will walk into Downing Street. That is the choice we have to face up to and I am worried that if Boris Johnson does not get a majority, Corbyn will get into No 10.

And if I can face up to this question, then surely Nigel Farage should swallow his pride and get behind the Prime Minister, too?

Voting for anyone else is just too big a risk. That is why I think traditional Labour voters like me must lend the Tories our votes at this election and stop Jeremy Corbyn getting anywhere near Downing Street."

Ian Austin was MP for Dudley North, 2005-2018

I’m a Blairite but this political trolling is so ridiculous it achieves the opposite of what the Tory’s want. During the last election they went so hard for Corbyn that I’m certain he did better than expected due to people voting for him because they thought he was being bullied.

Anyone can do a quick search and see than Austin is now on the Tory payroll.

Tellmetruth4 · 08/11/2019 15:26

I’d much rather the policies of each party were debated.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 08/11/2019 15:31

He has personal beef with Corbyn, he's now a Tory. He has a long history of being an arse and a terrible voting record.

I'm still voting Labour because my Labour MP is a good man and I trust his judgement. I am happy with his voting history and agree with most of the things he's brought up in the Commons.

ScreamingLadySutch · 08/11/2019 15:37

@Weebitawks "Also, your user name is misleading and implies it's more than one MP." it's two Labour MPs apparently

OP posts:
ButterTarts · 08/11/2019 15:45

Remember when Boris Johnson's own brother resigned from government and as an MP because he considered supporting BoJo to be against the national interest?

donquixotedelamancha · 08/11/2019 15:51

it's two Labour MPs apparently

Does this other unnamed person identify as a senior Labour MP in the same sense as Ian Austin? Have any cis-Labour MPs suggested voting for Mr Johnson?

JC has made a mess over antisemitism and the fact that MPs and members like Ian Austin have left the Labour party is very sad (though I think the way the Tories have treated long serving MPs is worse). I still think this post is misleading and I don't think people should place their vote based on fear mongering.

ilovesooty · 08/11/2019 15:57

I wouldn't give head space to anything Austin says.

longwayoff · 08/11/2019 16:00

Dreadful man. I refuse to be guided by someone who can recommend voting for Boris Johnson and keep a straight face.

derxa · 08/11/2019 16:01

I think he's very brave.

Cnp41 · 08/11/2019 16:05

Is this some kind of joke? This post is patronising nonsense. Anti-semitic my arse. And I'm Jewish. I will be voting Labour every step of the way.

Patroclus · 08/11/2019 16:07

He isnt a seniour labour MP, change the tabloidy title.

Patroclus · 08/11/2019 16:08

And tell your employers we arnt as gullable as the average tory voter.

Patroclus · 08/11/2019 16:11

By the way would anybody like to say what his current job is?

He works for the Conservative party as trade envoy to Israel. That his job.

Change the title to Conservative trade envoy to Israel says vote for my boss.

Ginnymweasley · 08/11/2019 16:18

Surely your title is misleading....it is one mp and one who is not a labour mp anymore. Instead of trying to take down Corbyn and labour etc can you instead tell us what Boris and co are going to do to unite Britain and make it fair..... what policies do they have that really help the poorest in our country etc. I fucking hate political trolling. Give facts about policies, instead of trying to fear monger about the opposition.
I will be voting for my labour candidate because the conservative candidate lives 300 miles away and has zero idea about his constituents and the labour candidate seems to actually have clear views.

ScreamingLadySutch · 08/11/2019 16:32

Whilst you are all trying to airbrush Austin out of your consciousness, and make out he was a nobody ... (in order to AVOID THE ISSUE like good little sheeple...)

he was part of the team who plotted Gordon Brown's route to No.10.

So very sorry for your failed putdowns, at the moment I seem to know more about your party than you do.

And now Tom Watson has resigned! Shem.
(Just for those of you who are a bit average and gullible and 'might' not understand the significance @Patroclus, that means a SPLIT between Corbyn loyalists and centralist Blairites).

We can debate with respect, otherwise I can do your level of condescension and put downs really well, too. What you give, you will get. I prefer respect. I never ever get intimidated so please don't bother.

Simkin · 08/11/2019 16:38

our thread title, 'Back Boris, say senior MPs' is factually incorrect. No doubt intentionally. I don't think posting lies which you know will appear on the front page of a well-used web forum is especially respectful of the truth or democracy. Anyone would think you had something to gain from it.

There's no disputing the Labour party is in a mess. I will still vote Labour over the Conservatives because the party's policies align most closely with my own views.

Jaxhog · 08/11/2019 16:39

I can't deny the blatant, unchallenged racism and xenophobia that makes up the Tories.

Really? Several people have claimed that the criticism of JC is unfounded or unfair, yet they spout this tosh. You may not like a lot of what the Toris do, but believe me, you will seriously regret it if JC and his Marxist buddies get in power. I don't particularly like the Labour Party, but I do agree with some of their concerns about fairness. But I haven't felt the level of fear before that I currently feel about the appalling crew currently running the Labour party. They will destroy this country.

donquixotedelamancha · 08/11/2019 16:40

God forbid that you try and split hairs in order to fucking AVOID THE ISSUE like a moron

It's not splitting hairs. I agree that it's a big deal for two lifelong Labour MPs to leave the party and then support the Tories. It was a similarly seismic shift when lots of Tory MPs lost the whip and some joined the Lib Dems. We live in interesting times.

By misrepresenting the issue you weakened your point. Actually what is your point? What conclusion do you draw?

in order to fucking AVOID THE ISSUE like a moron.

Stuff like this is why politics is toxic at the moment. Make an argument instead of name calling.

ScreamingLadySutch · 08/11/2019 16:52

@donquixotedelamancha this is the bit you failed to notice ....

the sneering and condescension was not started by me, it was aimed at me #BigMistake.

If people had stayed respectful and engaged, instead of descending into lefty sneering #BadTactic, I would stay respectful and engaged.

Now I am punching the bruise (Peter Mandelson) [Smile]

OP posts:
Simkin · 08/11/2019 16:54

OMG Who the hell do you think you are OP? Dominic Cummings?

Ginnymweasley · 08/11/2019 16:58

I feel like you have an agenda and don't want to listen to people that disagree with you... but what do I know I'm voting labour.

GinUnicorn · 08/11/2019 16:59

Honestly I am far more interested in what Ken Clarke says about voting Tory.

ButterTarts · 08/11/2019 17:01

It's just sort of where we are at the moment; Labour have moved quite sharply to the left and the Torries to the right. Both have leaders who aren't or weren't particularly popular among their MPs.

Boris has lost a lot of MPs; some who have resigned outright (including his brother) and some who have had the whip removed (and in some cases, have joined the Lib Dems). Ken Clarke is perhaps the most obvious; almost half a century as an MP, served in Thatcher and Major's cabinets, but thinks the Torries are now unrecognisable (and are basically the Brexit Party).

Labour have similarly lost MPs through resignations.

It's a symptom of the parties moving away from the centre and of the divisive nature of Brexit.

So my reaction to these two ex MPs is a bit of a shrug (though I do wish Corbyn would go).
