Morning all
I have been doing calorie counting for a little over a week now, 1200 calories a day and doing 15/20 mins a day workouts as well as being fairly active with a toddler. I dont have loads to lose im 10st 6 and goal is 9st but nothing is working.
Ive gone from drinking 2-3 cans pepsi max, few cups of tea and zero water, biscuits, chocolate bars, crisps, 2-4 slices white bread a day and unhealthy dinners - to eating healthy dinners, cutting out the white bread, no excessive snacking.
Has anyone else had this problem? I feel like giving up, the whole time i was eating shit i stayed at 10 st 6.
Also took measurements and no change there, Its disheartening.

I have a 7 month old who is breast fed and have lost 2st 5lb calorie counting and exercising. I eat around 2500 cals a day.

My base calories were around 1800 as I was conscious I didn’t want my milk supply to drop, which it can with too few calories. I would then eat exercise calories (wear a HR monitor and watch whilst running).

I’m surprised how many cals I am eating and still losing weight slowly with the running I’m doing. I’m doing up to 10miles and training 4x per week.

CICO does work. It’s simplified but in the absence of better support and a dietician it’s a better option than remaining overweight.

FunOnTheBeach20 · 08/11/2019 14:21

Should add I am now well within healthy BMI so not trying to loose anymore.

FunOnTheBeach20 · 08/11/2019 14:27

Ps allowed 500 cals per day when EBF and have dropped to 400 now he’s weaning, if my loss stalled I would have dropped more. BF a toddler is maybe 300 a day?

Give it a month at least. You can't quit after one week. It takes time for the weight to fall off.

MissConductUS · 08/11/2019 15:43

I really have to create a 400-500 calorie per day deficit before I see steady weight loss, and even then there are unpredictable fluctuations. Up your exercise if you can. I walk a lot (3-5 miles a day) and that really helps.

But it's mostly down to calorie consumption. You can't outrun your fork as the old saying goes. You are likely underestimating your portion sizes and caloric intake. At the beginning you have to weigh or measure or count every stinking molecule of food. For me, that's the only way I can get on track. I still weigh portions of some things just to make sure I'm not drifting off.

Good luck and keep at it. Flowers

Personally I find exercise makes zero difference in the short term. (If you do it long enough to build up muscle that's different as the muscle burns more calories). I only exercise to feel good, and that's totally worth it.

Agree with other PP measure your portion sizes. You may be shocked. Have you completely cut out snacks or just reduced them?

Based on your calories I would expect to lose 1-2lbs a week doing this (am also 5ft 4 and range between 9st and 10st when not pregnant). so I don't think you're being unreasonable to hope to see some modest results!

Have you had your thyroid checked? Also if you have been bf and are reducing it (toddler is probably eating more solids and taking less milk) this could be offsetting your efforts?

Lhastingsmua · 08/11/2019 19:00

I assure you that if you stick with this you will see results - it’s just too early now.

I’m short and typically weigh around 50-55kg. I went up to 60kg as I had to put on weight to donate blood - then I tried to lose the extra weight after.

Because I’m small my maintenance calories are 1200 - I had to eat less than that to lose weight, so I also went gym and was extremely active eg walking/running too.

Yet there were still days where I would gain or not lose at all, it is absolutely disheartening but it’s just life. Overall I was still losing weight per week, it’s just a gradual decline.

I'm a fan of intermittent fasting.

I eat between 8am and 6pm And in that window I eat three meals.

It helped me lose a couple of sneaky kg that had crept on and now I'm back to my ideal weight.
It's so easy to maintain and I never feel restricted. I have loads of energy and it's helped my sleep patterns too.

ConFusion360 · 08/11/2019 21:09

I eat between 8am and 6pm And in that window I eat three meals.

Isn't that how most people eat though. How is that intermittent fasting?

I do intermittent fasting and I eat between 12 noon and 7 pm alternate days

i.e. Absolutely nothing on the days in between. 36 hours or so with no food intake.

furrytoebean · 09/11/2019 08:22

No most people eat over a much bigger window.
It's not a diet as such it's more for maintenance and it means I never snack in the evening or drink alcohol when I'm bored.
So after 6pm I'm only allowed water.

It gives your body time to reset and you very quickly only get hungry on the times when you eat.
I started it to sort out my sleep patterns and it worked wonders, the losing weight was just a happy bonus.

It's sometimes called the 16:8 diet but you can get results from a 10 hour or even 12 hour window.

NutritiousAdventures · 10/11/2019 23:41

Tattooedmama perhaps you haven't calculated your energy intake and a calorie deficit well?? It is very easy to miscalculate. If you need help I'd be happy to assist you in doing it. :-)
You might have not lost anything in a week but the greatest thing is that you haven't put anything on and you should be very pleased with yourself :-)

EnglishRose13 · 13/11/2019 10:33

I've finally broken through the 10.10 barrier that I've been fighting for months. 10.9 this morning!!! I've been monitoring calories for just over a month now.

Hope you're seeing results now, too.
