To have told DH to FRO

When he suggested that we go vegan? I do all the cooking, he does dishes. We eat vegetarian about 3 times a week and I eat LCHF, so he does as well. I also do the meal planning and online shopping. So I told him to stick his idea where the sun doesn't shine unless he wants to take over his own cooking.

There is no way that I am ever going vegan, I love meat and dairy too much and hate cooking at Xmas when his adult kids come round as they're all vegan and it's so bloody faffy.

He thinks it would be better for the environment, so I suggested he get rid of his car then and use public transport, like me. Or get rid of the poxy, stinky wood burner.

Don't blame you for that. Vegan diet is so restricted. I've tried vegan food and can honestly say that it is bland and unsatisfying. Of course there will be those who immediately tell me I'm eating the wrong things as it can be delicious etc etc. Not in my experience. I love cheese, milk, eggs etc. I cannot see how a vegan diet could be good enough for an omnivorous human.

WorraLiberty · 07/11/2019 18:14

I don't blame you for not wanting to become vegan but I'm not sure why you had to be so rude/angry about it?

As you say, he can cook it himself though if he wants to go ahead with it.

littlepaddypaws · 07/11/2019 18:18

unless i misunderstood, he suggested you went vegan, a suggestion is just that, if he has to prepare his own food the interest may soon pass. although the xmas thing is ur if the dsc are vegan.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 07/11/2019 18:20

Because he did it in that superior condescending way that some men have that just gets right up my nose. He's usually a normal human being.

'Don't you think we should be more environmentally conscious and eat vegan instead' whilst I was in the middle of making a gorgeous madras. I nearly threw it at him. Should have just stolen all his chicken and given him cauliflower rice and sauce. Grin

Doing a pork and beef chilli tonight. Double meat! I'll give him colly rice on it's own and then ask if he still wants to be vegan

A polite no thank you should suffice.

Sexnotgender · 07/11/2019 18:21

I’d be pissed off at the condescension rather than the vegan suggestion. I can’t bear condescending arseholes.

Beamur · 07/11/2019 18:23
Grin YANBU My DH does most of our cooking already and I'd still say no to vegan for exactly the same reasons.
WorraLiberty · 07/11/2019 18:24

How is it condescension? Confused

MissConductUS · 07/11/2019 18:26

Stand your ground. DD went through a brief flirtation with veganism until she realize that pizza and chicken nuggets were off the list. And you're right, he has no idea of what it would take. Lots of people assume that anything they don't understand must be simple.

Applesanbananas · 07/11/2019 18:26

Yanbu. I cant imagine what a nightmare it is to always have to know/research every bloody ingredient before you eat it. Leave him to try it out and see for himself.

mbosnz · 07/11/2019 18:28

That overpowering stench of male superiority - practically perfect in every way? Yeah, I know what you mean. . . it's homicidal urges inducing.

Combine that with food (a matter to be taken very seriously) - has he suffered a blow to the head that could be somewhat clouding his judgment?

pugparty · 07/11/2019 18:29

YABU. No need to be rude, a simple no would have done.

You eat vegan all the time without even thinking about it.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 07/11/2019 18:29

He might get a blow to the head if he keeps stirring my bloody food!

christ, a Vegan SpoonyFucker....ltb, it's the only option really!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 07/11/2019 18:36

@pugparty Actually the only time is when I have fruit, but I dont even eat that any more as it has too much sugar in.
Boiled eggs for breakfast, or bacon. Home made soup, usually meat based, with chicken stock. Pork scratching for snacks.

Because the LCHF way of eating means I need lots of protein and fat, which cuts out all the carby crap like toast, rice, pasta etc.

Mind you my black coffee is vegan, I guess, but can't live off that.

'Don't you think we should be more environmentally conscious and eat vegan instead'

As he is now so woke, perhaps he should do the cooking every night from now on? And buy a bicycle? And hemp sandals? Ask him what's for Xmas dinner?

I'm joking. He won't make it to December. I give him a week tops.

MissConductUS · 07/11/2019 18:49

He won't make it to December. I give him a week tops.

It took 3 days before DD was asking for McDonalds.

ArthurEyeTits · 07/11/2019 18:52

has he suffered a blow to the head that could be somewhat clouding his judgment?

Not yet by the sound of it. Grin. Grin

Londonmummy66 · 07/11/2019 18:55

DC wanted to try this at Lent a couple of years ago - they lasted 3 weeks (with Sunday being a non-vegan day anyway). I admit I refused to buy processed foods like vegan sausages as I usually cook from scratch so they ate an awful lot of beans (which they don't normally like unless they come out of a tin that says Heinz....)

Paythosebitchesnomind269 · 07/11/2019 18:58

The Bosh recipes are really tasty, Challenge 22 and veganuary have meal plans. Dirty Vegan on BBC has gorgeous food

ApacheTomcat · 07/11/2019 19:04

Tell him it's a fantastic idea and that you're looking forward to trying out the vegan recipes he's going to cook for you. Even better, he'll have had so much experience of preparing vegan food that he'll be able to take over at Christmas too when his children come to visit.

Then sit back and wait for the sound of back-pedaling...

Mickhasnotorso · 07/11/2019 19:07

Yabu. Seems to have really hit a nerve with you and not sure why.

Scarlettpixie · 07/11/2019 19:08

It is better for the environment though, and your health. It wouldn’t be faffy to feed he vegan kids either if you all ate that way. I bet you eat a few vegan or almost vegan meals anyway.

Having said that, it is ‘t really fair if he expects you to do all the leg work!

Preggosaurus9 · 07/11/2019 19:10

Ooh yes please do give him plates without the meat on for the next few weeks. I can just imagine the facial expression when he clocks on Grin

YADNBU the idiot! Wine

1forAll74 · 07/11/2019 19:16

No vegans here thankfully, says me after just eating a lovely succulent steak.!
