To have told DH to FRO

When he suggested that we go vegan? I do all the cooking, he does dishes. We eat vegetarian about 3 times a week and I eat LCHF, so he does as well. I also do the meal planning and online shopping. So I told him to stick his idea where the sun doesn't shine unless he wants to take over his own cooking.

There is no way that I am ever going vegan, I love meat and dairy too much and hate cooking at Xmas when his adult kids come round as they're all vegan and it's so bloody faffy.

He thinks it would be better for the environment, so I suggested he get rid of his car then and use public transport, like me. Or get rid of the poxy, stinky wood burner.

You eat vegan all the time without even thinking about it.

A few of you have intimated similar. How on earth could you know what OP eats? Confused

pugparty · 07/11/2019 19:50

Nope @Babysharkdoodoodood. Unless you are a literal carnivore (which you're not) you'll have eaten tons of fruits, veggies, salads, sides, crisps, sweets, desserts, biscuits, drinks etc that are vegan. They're often referred to as 'accidentally vegan' because that's not the manufacturers intention and they sometimes don't advertise it as a feature of the product.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 07/11/2019 19:58

@pugparty I don't eat many carbs so no fruit, no desserts and no biscuits. I've cut out crisps and other junk because of the 'accidental ' adding of sugar.
I make everything from scratch to control my carbs and most of the snacky things I make are made from cheese, cream or eggs.

I'm trying to think of anything I've eaten lately that might be vegan, but coming up empty.

If a woman came on here and said she was told to fuck off by her DH then there would be uproar. You seem very, very angry about vegans OP.

oblada · 07/11/2019 20:37

I agree it's a major faff to go vegan and not worth it unless you all genuinely want to. I wouldn't do it. I love dairy, cheese, honey too much. I ensure I take organic dairy milk and use alternative milks whenever I can. But that's all I feel I can do.
But to eat 'vegetarian 3x a week' does suggest to me that you do eat a lot of meat. It could be worth cutting down a bit?
A lot of Indian food is actually vegan (although you'd have to remove the ghee) so it was perfect timing to discuss lol

midnightmisssuki · 07/11/2019 20:42

Let him try. My cousin tried it, lasted 4 days. I agree - it’s very very difficult and restrictive. And a bit boring! He he

Mydogmylife · 07/11/2019 21:04

I think it's the hypocrisy that would annoy me - expecting you to make the change to vegan to save the planet , when he's driving, burning wood etc. How did he take your response out of interest?

slipperywhensparticus · 07/11/2019 21:08

He sounds like a hypocrite

StillCoughingandLaughing · 07/11/2019 21:09

You make carb-free meals from scratch and avoid fruit and veg, but a vegan diet would be a ‘faff’?

I don’t know why you didn’t just say ‘You can go vegan if you like, but I’m not’. Perhaps you enjoy the drama? I also find it somewhat pretentious that you referred to food you cooked as ‘a gorgeous madras’.

drspouse · 07/11/2019 21:20

Bosh recipes may be very tasty but they look like a huge faff - I got a book out of the library and made one thing.

whiteroseredrose · 07/11/2019 21:24

Having cooked meat and vegetarian (now vegan) meals side by side for 15 years or more I can, hand on heart, say that vegan meals are no more or less of a faff than meat ones.

The only 'quicker' meat meals are a slab of meat pan fried with steamed veg. All other meals require chopping, sautéing and sauces, with or without meat.

Vegan cake is trickier but that wouldn't affect the OP if she's carb-free.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 07/11/2019 21:26

@StillCoughingandLaughing Why pretentious? I used to cook for a living so I know when my food is good. I'm not into being female style pretend humble.

How is dropping carbs a faff? I just drop an element. But I'm not going to make pretend meat or use fake cheese when I enjoy the real thing.

And how does eating vegetarian 3 x week mean that the diet is meat heavy? We eat fish as well.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 07/11/2019 21:29

Anyway it's moot now as I'm just preparing a spot under the patio, because the twat just admitted to winding me up.

Just for that it's a plate of veg every night for a week for him, while I have a 'slab' of meat.

Vegan bashing on MN is SO predictable - & boring.

Mydogmylife · 07/11/2019 21:33

Oooo, the tricky wee git!!!! A good revenge is called for

misspiggy19 · 07/11/2019 21:39

Yabu. Seems to have really hit a nerve with you and not sure why.

^I agree. You overreacted and was rude as hell.

CravingCheese · 07/11/2019 21:55

Why not let him do half of the cooking? He's free to provide you with delicious, low carb vegan food.

Idk how he'd do that (coconut yoghurt is high fat low carb but apart from that Idk) but he's obviously welcome to try?

littlepaddypaws · 08/11/2019 19:58

sure he was winding you up, he realised he can't do it and this a saving face tactic .it's so obvious.

oblada · 08/11/2019 20:20

Fish/meat - my point was simply that it could be good to increase the number of vegetarian meals. There is no requirement to have meat or fish at most meals that's all. Health wise and if you want to consider the environmental impact.
Vegan would be a step too far for me personally so I get that but meat/fish occasionally only is probably not a bad idea.
