AIBU to think I don’t care how hungry you are, you don’t eat McDonald’s in a hospital waiting room? Shock There are 2 adults eating it, so surely one can pop out and then they swap.

P.S. do you think I can ask for a chip?

that’ll be the next horror.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 07/11/2019 22:09

You got my hopes up! I thought that perhaps they had opened up a new branch and cornered the market!

stucknoue · 07/11/2019 22:14

Last time I was in a&e both dominos and deliveroo arrived with orders for people waiting! Where I grew up there's a Burger King IN the hospital!

Footiefan2019 · 07/11/2019 22:35

I’d flipping love a cafe in the drs, what an idea ! Early morning appts I’m always starving and coffee and a tea cake would be the one

Footiefan2019 · 07/11/2019 22:37

Lots of ppl having chemo and stuff as well can only stomach certain foods. One of the things my friend fancied was strawberry McDonalds milkshake and nuggets from there, or one kind of Starbucks drink and toastie (cheese and marmite lol). The sight of hospital food could make her vomit. So there are reasons people would bring food intot the hospital.

Beaverdam · 07/11/2019 22:38

Nothing wrong with that.

funinthesun19 · 07/11/2019 23:07

It wouldn’t bother me.

GunpowderGelatine · 07/11/2019 23:13

Very selfish - my toes curl a little at the thought of eating food in an area with infectious people too spluttering germs everywhere but I suppose it depends where you are and what they're there for...like others I remember people ordering takeaways to the maternity ward, one woman's partner actually ordered and sat to eat a donner kebab 🤮 wasn't even for the patient! Then again the entitlement and selfishness of men who's OHs have just given birth is a staggering sight or behold so it didn't surprise me

PickAChew · 07/11/2019 23:17

Nowt wrong with it but maybe grab some extra fries to share.

DH was directed (ordered) to the nearest mcD's while I was in labour with DS1.

PickAChew · 07/11/2019 23:21

And at a routine 2pm midwife appointment late in that pregnancy I got ordered to the hospital immediately and didn't get out until 10pm. I don't even like macdonalds, but that was all that was open nearby, when we left and it was unbelievably delicious.

pigeononthegate · 07/11/2019 23:22

The pp who said eating McDs in a hospital bed was disgusting - who the fuck do you think you are? My cousin died in hospital after months of brutal chemo, at one point ice lollies, McD's milkshakes and fries were all she could stomach so her family took it in turns to bring them to her. There wasn't much else they could do for her.

As for eating in a waiting room, people spend hours in those godforsaken places. Of course they need to eat. You have no idea what's going on in someone else's life or what's brought them there. Have a bit of tolerance ffs. It's food, not dog shit.

carolina21 · 08/11/2019 12:11

There are worst things to be offended about . I be more upset if someone turned up at hospital with D & V considering you're told to stay away .

ThatMuppetShow · 08/11/2019 13:06

It's not about being "offended" it's about having to put up with unnecessary nuisance and rudeness.

McDonalds absolutely stinks - you have no idea what other people in the waiting room are going through, and the last thing they need it to make their waiting worst.

Eat outside, how long does it take to finish a McDonald meal? You'll be done in a couple of minutes.

It takes no effort to show a tiny bit of manners and consideration for others, but it would make such a big difference.

OneHanded · 08/11/2019 13:23

Had people eating bk at addenbrookes in the day surgery waiting room. Aka a room full of people fasting. I’m vegan but I wanted to murder/throw up I was so thirsty and hungry.

Honeybee85 · 08/11/2019 13:28

Not very respectful towards other people waiting there. If you really have to eat something which ofcourse is not unreasonable, surely they could get a sandwhich or something else that doesn’t smell from the hospital restaurant?

randomsabreuse · 08/11/2019 13:43

Most of the stuff from the restaurant smells - e.g. curry, chips, tuna sandwich etc...

DH came out of chemo with a massive aversion to soup - even the Soupdragon was an issue... McDonald's not so much!

EggysMom · 08/11/2019 13:48

When I was on the post-natal ward (DS in NICU), I had a friend bring me a MaccyD's and a few days later DH brought me a Subway :-D A fortnight of hospital food will do that to you.

DH was in hospital about a year later (and shortly will be again), I bring his Subways as he doesn't like the hospital food.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 08/11/2019 13:56

It could be a lot worse.

Other posters are mentioning a&e - we don't have walk ins or minor injuries departments so anyone with a suspected fracture has to go to the a&e hospital as no one else has x ray machines. The waits can be 7 hours plus. I have no problem with people eating in these circumstances.

Also when I was ill with hyperemesis a McDonalds was a godsend- soft flavourless pap with lots of sugar, salt and calories per bite. Overall I only managed to keep 2 of them down mind.Grin
